Good Headphones for the Gym

Ranger Rick

CAGiversary!
My cat just chewed through my 2nd good pair of headphones so all I have left is these crappy headphones that fall out unless I'm wearing a beanie. Since I spend a lot of time in the gym I'm looking for some good quality headphones that don't fall out when I go running. No cheapass headphones but preferably $20 or under. Thanks for any help :)

Eh, prob not what you are looking for, but I gave my girlfriend the wireless ipod headset from logitech. She uses them all the time at the gym and loves them. They are llight and have a remote built into them so you can keep your ipod hdden in a bag puch sleeve strap or what not. It is very awesome. Got mine for 1/2 off for working at gamestop through the logitech promotion with vendors.

The stock Sony ones that' go behind your head. They sound good to me and definately stay on; I use them soemtimes at track rpactice.

I use the Sony behind the head headphones too. They're like $15 or $16 at Wal-Mart. Eventually they break (took a year) but they're cheap and they stay on your head.

lol. by definition, any set of heaphones under $20 = cheapass.

anyway, i see a lot of guys at the gym using the over-ear heaphones with the behind-the-head style band. that might be your best option. at $20 or less i don't think it matters what brand you get

Yeah I got the Sony headphones with the behind the neck style band and used them today. They were great ... I reccomend them to anyone looking for headphones to use at the gym or out running.

I got these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001M2FZK/sr=1-3/qid=1150780535/ref=pd_bbs_3/103-9353916-4747854?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=electronics

I don't like foam padded for exercise, because they sop up sweat and become dirty and dingy. I also don't like the behind the head ones because they rely on squeezing your head to stay on and it gets irritating after a while. These Sony ones stay dry and are water resistant. They also don't tangle much. I wish they made some that didn't go into the ear but these are still better than earbuds because the weight is spread out and they allow airflow in. Some complaints people have is that they don't stay on your ear very well but I've never had this problem. I also like the option of only putting one on if I need to listen to street traffic.

These look comfortable, too:

No foam padding, and probably lightest since they go over your head. Collapsible, too. They also go in your ear but don't plug it up, and are water resistant. They have an advantage over any other sports headphones I've seen in that water from your hair or head will drip over the outeredge instead of into your ear canal. I don't actually have this model but I do want to get it if my current set fails.

This is the behind the head model that Sony makes for sports:

I actually have this model too but found it uncomfortable to wear for longer durations. I barely used it but it does come with one set of ear pad replacements. It has a reflective piece on the ear if you do night jogging (although I doubt this alone will protect you from cars). Unfortunately, if you do need to put this around your neck for when you're done listening, the pads will probably soak up sweat from it there as well.

Yeah, they absorb sweat, and then afterwards it just feels nasty to put on. However, they do dry off quick...

Not under $20, but by far and away the best headphones I've ever heard. Just a $150 option if you decide to go all out. If you have a mac store around, give them a listen with their iPod demos.
Unfortunately, good sounding headphones are rarely good for exercise use. Staying in place during active use (which is a bigger deal than one might normally think), weight, size, airflow for breathability, durability and water resistance due to sweating are not typically factors used in the construction of high fidelity headphones. Cord management is also a factor for some.

Minger:

Hey, if it works for you, great. Just wanted to let him know all the factors before buying anything. Even if they do dry off, they're still dirty from the oil and dirt they pick up from sweat.

That being said, anyone want to buy mine off me? Haha. They're in new condition, I've only worn them once to test them out then got to lazy to return them.

Minger:

An additional possible concern with the "behind the head" types is it is uncomfortable to lay down flat with them. This is a factor in exercises like sit-ups and bench-presses.

Hey if you like them, buy mine off me. =)

I think shipping from cali to NY would kill the deal; I have a pair and I could always just grab my brothers...

Can anyone suggest a good pair of earbuds that won't fall out for the gym; specifically running? Somewhere along the lines of $50 or under would be a good price range as well. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if these are any good?
Only $10 after GCO.
Personally, I would go with these Sony's before I bought the Panasonics.:

I have used these Sonys for years and have loved them. The Panasonics are also good, but I think a few more dollars for the Sonys is money well spent.

The in-ear earbuds are definitely the way to go for workout headphones. Once you try them you will never go back.

These are the best headphones for the price, hands down..... I use them at the gym everyday and for regular listening, highly recommended! However, if you use the little ear bud caps its a pain.
It's all personal preference, but I use these:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-5/qid=1168627640/ref=sr_1_5/602-5657017-1431015?ie=UTF8&asin=B000FONSEQ

I bought these on a pinch when I left my usual pair at home, and have never gone back to the old ones. I even bought extra, backup, sets. I run alot (marathoner) indoors and out and these never fall out. The backs are soft rubber, unlike alot of brands that use hard plastic (like Sony).
I second these. I bought the black ones one day when I was in Target looking for a cheap pair to use as backups and not being able to stand the ear buds with no ear clips as they fall out too often while exercising. For about $14 after tax, these sound great as far as I'm concerned and have now become my go to pair.
