GOTY 2005: Calling it Early?

Someone should run a campaign to make Chicago Enforcer GOTY. Maybe take 90 political spinners, the U.S. economy in bribe money, and 4 hookers, that should do it.
Same here, just loved it.
I just beat the game last night. It's definitely one of the best games I have ever played.

It gets my vote for GOTY.

My vote goes to RE4 currently, great game. Still want to play God of War, Jade Empire, and SP CT before I make my decision though. Doom 3 shouldn't be in the running from what I have played.
No offense intended, but why did anybody even bother mentioning Halo 2 earlier? We're talking about the 2005 GOTY.
If you took the time to read, you'd note that someone brought up the example of Halo and Halo 2 to try to defeat Scorch's argument against Tekken 5. I agree with him that Tekken 5 shouldn't be in the running, but I say this because Tekken is probably the second least fun fighting series I've played, the absolute least fun being Battle Arena Toshinden. Lack of modes or story doesn't bother me as much as the slow boring gameplay and dull characters.

The games I've loved so far this year (that I've played any of, at least) were RE4 and God of War. I'm gonna try Jade Empire as soon as I get a chance. The only other game that I really loved was Lumines, but that certainly isn't game of the year material.

It has gots to gots to gots to be Resident Evil 4. I have a backlog of around 50 games, and I played that game for about a month and a half after I beat it. I mean, I played the shit out of that thing. I beat every single mini-game/side mission, and beat the game 5 times. I haven't been that engrossed by a game since Final Fantasy 3.
We can safely remove Haunting Ground from the potential list now. It got owned by the latest GI, it flunked.
done.

EDIT: Oops, forgot about Chaos Theory. That's the best so far, but if GTA for PSP is anywhere near as good as 3,VC, or SA it will be the best of the year.

Resident Evil 4 was good, but not GOTY good. The game is seriously a constant rescue/escort mission and it gets tedious despite great gameplay.

Chaos Theory is GOTY good, but the some later levels grow frustrating and not in a "the game is too hard" way. Despite the 2 levels like that the game is easily a GOTY contender. However, its future will depend on what content gets released down the road.

God of War I didn't spend alot of time with, but it should get strong consideration for GOTY from what I have seen. Anyone can pick it up and play it without devoting alot of time, and it is just flat out fun.

Brothers in Arms is also a good title, but it isn't GOTY. The jump button is pointless and if your squadmate dies in battle he may return based on the scripted story. Those aren't big flaws, but I think the sequel will be a serious contender.

I'm thinking GOTY will either go to the new Zelda game or even an XBOX 360 launch title like Perfect Dark Zero or even the new Morrowind.

Agreed. Chaos Theory is GOTY to-date. But god of War and RE4 are a close second.

I don't see much else on the upcoming release charts that will step up and knock any of these three down the remainder of the year.

I disagree, it wasn't a chore brining Ashley around because she wasn't a fucktard like in most escort missions,

God of War gets my vote. Hands down the best game I've played so far this year and one of the best games I've ever played, period.

It's way too early to call GOTY. Hell, November is too early to call it. 2003, I said Wind Waker was my GOTY in October, then Prince of Persia Sands of Time came and really made it competitive (still really don't know which I liked better).

That said, I think the Legend of Zelda should make it pretty interesting at the end of the year. RE4, God of War are also making it interesting. Chaos Theory should be a candidate, but because it is so much like the previous two installments (is Co-op and a knife enough to distinguish it?), I think most people will be hard pressed to make it GOTY. Maybe the Multiplatform GOTY, but I'd be very surprised if it got the nod over all the other great games this year. I'm waiting till December 31st to cast my vote, because you never know when a game will come out of nowhere to steal it.

Have to say RE4 as well... coming from someone who LOVES the Splinter Cell games and currently is enjoying CT... RE4 is just so engrossing, the escourting part, when I found out Id spend a great part of the game dragging her around, I rolled my eyes, but i leave her out of harms way and do my business (except for the time I blew her up with the cannon at the end of the catapault battle... forgot I had left her there until I hit fire on the cannon... it was still great fun and good for a laugh)... funny thing about RE4 is I am getting it from my Gamefly free membership, although its been at the top of my wants list for months... I am probably going to beat the rest of it, then buy my own sealed copy when the price drops a little (although it is definantly worth 50 bucks)

Doom 3 has been fun... not GOTY fun but good, will eventually get to Brothers in Arms in my stash... will eventually get God of War when the price drops a bit

Loved RE4, rented God of War but it kept freezing so no opinion on that. I expect Zelda will be very good, but Kingdom Hearts 2 will be my GOTY.
