FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.
Thanks. Sort of a bittersweet trade credit thing for me. I generally hate trading in b/c most of what I tend to have has such low values it's not worth it. Came out pretty well this time.

Almost screwed up and fully paid for Heavy Rain, which would've made me miss out on that 35% off (with edge card) 1 used game deal. CAG FTW!
You could still have Heavy Rain full paid off and do the newsletter coupon promotion because you're not "buying" Heavy Rain until release day. I've done this before with fully paid off games.

wow get almost $40 for Uncharted 2 with Edge but I don't know what to use the credit for. Already pre-ordered BFBC2 on Amazon, will rent GOW3, rent Heavy Rain, anything else good on the horizon worth buying?
it did go up. i was excited when someone posted it was 4 dollars earlier today. since it was as low as $1? or something lower
Yeah, damn thing was at .75 cents.

Okay I updated all the values listed, since I last posted, in the lists on the first page. I'll update them in the database here in the next hour.

Speaking of the database maybe the mods or the Cheapy man himself can answer a question. When I do updates I tend to mark duplicates for deletion and what not. What's the lead out time for those deletions? I know there are some I tagged a couple times. Also, why do some games no longer have the icon for uploading box art? The ones I have noticed that no longer have that button are ones that are currently up for sale on the CAG Marketplace, but that could just be a coincidence. Nothing major, just some things I noticed. Really love the database.
I could use a B2G1 right now GS so that I could get some free games from you!
I like the way you think. :applause: Prolly not gonna happen though, but if it did...

Okay, all values in the database as well. We are fully up to date running into today. I'm going to enjoy the feeling for the next...hour or so.

Thanks for the updates, jp. You sure have some major patience. Also thanks to everyone who answered my question earlier, now I just have to wait about another 90 minutes for GS to open. Employee is probably gonna be pissed having someone come in right at opening time to do a huge trade in, haha!

I'm hoping someone will be able to report back what Mass Effect 2 TIV is this morning. I have a copy from amazon arriving later today.

A manager (and fellow CAG) said it will drop to $30 today. I'm heading to GS in an hour or so, I'll let everyone know and edit the TIV accordingly.
A manager (and fellow CAG) said it will drop to $30 today. I'm heading to GS in an hour or so, I'll let everyone know and edit the TIV accordingly.
Was wondering this myself (if they'll drop it), hopefully it won't kick in till later today. Regardless, I'm trading in about 8 or 10 games I never play ... even $2 or $3 is better than letting them collect dust.

I may be asking a lot, but when looking up TIV, is there any way that it can display when that entry was last updated? I looked up Resistance: Fall of Man and it said something like $6, but I have a feeling that is an old entry. Then again, I may not be looking in the right place too.

If you actually go to the game page, and look at the trade-in values the last time it was updated is listed. If you are searching through the GameStop retailer page it doesn't show the date. So when searching the GameStop retailer page and find a game, just right click on the title and open in new tab/window and then you can you get access to the last time it was updated. It has been brought up that the date should show up on the GameStop retailer page too. I figure that is on the list of things to add to the database feature at some point.

It says Resistance is $7 and in parenthesis says "just added." I don't know how Cheapy has it setup, but I'd guess that would be within the last week or so.

And Cheapy (and jp since judging by the posts you contributed as well), thanks for adding this TiV feature, this is going to save me a ton of time and effort.

Just added means within the last day if I remember correctly. Let me check some of the values I put in yesterday and get back with you guys. I take no credit for the TIV database feature. That was all CheapyD and Super Programmer John and others I probably don't know about. I just used this list to update the values once CheapyD informed us it was available to use.

UPDATE: On the (just added), I've checked a bunch of games I added in the past 24 hours and they say (just added). Once it hits 24 hours of the time it was submitted I figure it goes to (updated 1 day ago). Blue Dragon is a good example it shows (updated 48 days ago).

I don't need anymore GS credit, but if you have bestbuy cred you could get DA:O n trade in at GS for same price. Build up your reward zone and gamerclub points this week.
What percentage does GS take off if you want cash and not store credit?
Sorry your question got lost in the shuffle, they take 20% off the base trade-in value for cash and you can't use trade-in promos. I'll add that information to the FAQ.

Read the first post and you will be enlightened.
Asking for TIVs or if a TIV will hold ??? (wait let me get my crystal ball) is silly

Better get to GS fast & dump L4D2, thanks let's hope this noob is correct!
Better get to GS fast & dump L4D2, thanks let's hope this noob is correct!
i'm with you on this one. I still need like 200 gamerscore in L4D2 which i would like to get, but for almost $50 credit for it...this can't be missed out on.

Then i won't have to fork over top dollar for heavy rain or gow3.

But to anyone who may know...has Gamestop been known for changing TIV during the first day or so of a promotion? i mean if they start the promo with the TIV values still what they are...might they change ME2 from $35, say to...$24 or something?

if so, that really will suck. my luck will be i finally get to GS and L4D2 has dropped to $16 or sumthin

There is this small game by an unknown developer called FINAL FANTASY XIII!!!!:bouncy::lol::D:applause:

It seems l4d2 is another game up there with me2 in trade in value @ gamestop, surprising that the game has been out for a while. I traded it in yesterday and I got $47, I'm still missing some avatar tees from the game, but what the heck.

Anyway, I checked the 1st page and didn't see a price for FAllout3 GOTY, anybody done this one yet?

Tatsunoko is $15.75 base price by the way

jcp4287, gamestop has been known to jump onto values that they lose money on fairly quickly and drop them. Same goes with trade 2 get a game for a discount. Once they see somehing not going their way they tend to remove them from the eligible list. I would have quoted our postbut can't figure out how to do it on my iPhone.

Just got back.

Mass Effect is still $35, or at least was as of 10:52am today. Traded mine in and got $56 after Edge. Here's some others for those interested:
(Before bonuses)
FFT:A2 - 7.25

ME1 - 9
ME2 - 35

Hah, ok...and no prob. The more i think about it, I probably just won't get wrapped up in this promo right now. I recently sold Demon's Souls to someone on here since i needed money quick by wednesday.

so when i get paid i'll probably just buy that again...then i have KZ2 and Bioshock 2 to finish :/

a while before i need a new game

not to mention ME2 and L4D2 are fairly good games to go back and play again

Also guys, please post the system the game is traded in for. Even if it's a big console exclusive I may not know exactly which console it's for.

Hmmmm, $56 TIV for mass effect 2? Sounds like I might be returning my old copy in exchange for a new copy and ebay my cerberus card...

If you're looking for things to buy, a while back I noticed that my GS started carrying gift cards for other stores, including iTunes. I'm going to trade some stuff in and purchase an iTunes card with some of the spoils as I'm out of funds there. iTunes cards aren't discounted anywhere as far as I can tell, at least not much of a discount, so if you can flip for a profit to GS, this is a good way to buy them.

Traded in some stuff yesterday.

CoD: MWF2 (360) - $23 ($36.80)
Forza 2 - $2 ($3.20)
Project Gotham Racing 3 - $.60 ($.90) big money right there
Saints Row - $2.50 ($4)
The Simpsons Game (360) - $7 ($11.20)
Punch-Out - $19 ($30.40)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles - $6.25 ($9.99)
Resistance - $7 ($11.20)
Contra 4 - $5 ($8)
Xbox 360 wired headset - $5.77

$121.52 overall

Picked up 2 copies of Mass Effect 2 and traded them back for $56.
