FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.
It's a shame they don't accept old X-Box games; I've still got a few lying around, and my 360 Arcade [with HDD] doesn't accept original X-Box games.

By the way, if I may be so rude, can I ask if anyone has gotten any clues as to when the next B2G1FREE will be?

My EDGE expires in April; Gotta get those last-minute games in.
This guy on this thread earlier posted that a GS worker told him that B2G1 free is sometime in march. Its from that employee's email.

Hey, thanks for the update.

As for trade-in's, I've got Saints Row 2 (PS3), and, at $8, selling it to GameStop would save me some solid time and money.

Perhaps I'll have to consider that. Thanks Esurance lady.
Mario Kart DS is still at $20. just confirmed it about 30 minutes ago.
many people say otherwise. It is at $10. Your G$ did not update.

So is it possible to trade in a Dslite for a Dsi to get the extra $30 trade in credit, and then like two weeks later return the Dsi and get all the credit back? If this works should I get a gift receipt or does it not matter? I want to do this because I never play my Ds anymore but $75 seems a whole lot better than $45 (assuming the value holds).
(quickly runs out to sell his copy)
just got back...Mario Kart DS is still at $20 (SoCal region at least). They said it's unlikely that it's different at any other GS since they all get updated at the same time.

Looks like prices are plummeting across the board. Glad I cashed in my chips already.

2/25
Bioshock 2 - Still holding at $25.
Went and traded a few games, surprised by this, the base value for NBA 2K9 is $4.00
I have to get rid of mine tomorrow. I forgot to trade mine in when I picked up NBA2K10. I really hated 2K4, 2K7, and 2K9.

Brought back both Heavy Rains after getting Platinum. $60 return for one and $40 tiv for the other. So I made 20 cred and got a free platinum and heavy rain experience out of this. Thanx CAG. Peace

^Did you return the $60 Heavy Rain because you used it to get %25 off a used game? I am wondering how returns with coupons and extra credit work.

traded in today 2/25

base tiv:
360

Lego Indy/kung Fu panda - 2

PS3

Wii

Ended up with $174.40 after edge and 50% bonus

damn Uncharted 2 TIV went down right when I was going to go trade it in. Oh well will try to sell it on craigslist. Will trade in L4D2 since I got it for $35 and getting $47.60 for it

Prices were kinda shitty today but I wanted the $99 MvC2 TE stick to add to the collection.

Bionic Commando PS3- $5
Socom Confrontation PS3 - $4
Motorstorm Arctic Edge - $8.50
Borderlands -360 - $18 (suck)
Street Fighter 4 PS3 - $7.00

Bioshock 2 - Still holding at $25.
Yep, I wonder how long it takes before L4D2 drops. It's a great deal, but GameStop still ends up shooting themselves in the foot by lowering the TIVs of the more valuable TIVs.

Can't really complain though because I got more value from GameStop then I would have from eBay for once.

I might actually end up trading in Bioshock 2 for $37 since I'm bound to drop the cash on the SE once it drops to $60 or so, plus eBay it's only selling on average for $35.

amazon TIV is 37.25, which is what I choose over gamstop, since amazon gift card credit is more valuable to me

Thanks for the heads up. I'd probably still go with GameStop just because I had to pay off The Show still on Tuesday. Maybe I'll cancel that preorder and just get it off Amazon. It would be about $6 cheaper. Hmm...

I ordered two used copies from gamestop.com a while ago for 24.xx a piece, and one was complete, the other wasn't. Complete version went to amazon, and I turned in the other and the one I already owned to gamestop for a cool 94.

Everyone I need a simple answer and I'm sure many of you can help me.

I place an order on Gamestop.com with code FEB20 for 2 pre-orders that release 3/2 and 3/9. I used a gift card, an edge card, and my credit card to do the order. Well, I ended up getting more credit from Gamestop on another EDGE card. I talked to the CS rep and they said they could cancel my order but it might take a couple days for the money to go back on my card. I didn't want to have any problems so I just told her not to cancel it.

My question is, can I call them and have them apply the other edge card to the order? It became too late tonight and their phones are now closed. They could do it right?

PS3:
MLB 09: The Show - $5.50 (it dropped $1 from yesterday)
DS:
Trauma Center: Under the Knife - $3.00
Super Mario 64 DS - $7.50

Total was $25.60 which I used to get a used New Super Mario Bros DS (no booklet:bomb:) at $26.99 after 10% off with the EDGE card. Both DS games that I traded in I got for free with no case or manual and that's how I traded them in btw.

I could've given someone $21 for New Super Mario Bros DS, you would've gotten $6 more and I would've saved $6.

Trade-in Values from PR. Have always been the same as the US, but I mention it just in case.

All base, for :360::

Ghostbusters - $6
Halo 3 - $5
King Kong - $2
Mercenaries 2 - $3.25
Quantum of Solace - $4
Star Wars The Force Unleased - $5
Tom Clancy's HAWX - $4.75
