These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)

 Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

 Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

 My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

I know it's a noob question but:

On the website it says the deal expires on 3/14. I'm assuming games will no longer receive 50% value when you trade them in on 3/14? I'm asking because that's the day I plan to go to gamestop to get FFXIII and Pokemon SS at the same time.

i believe it will still work on 3/14...but why not go in before hand and trade your games in, putting the credit onto a gift card? then just go back on the 14 and make your purchase?
 
Now this is interesting. Last night when I went to pick up my Bad Company 2 reserve I took Mass Effect 2 to trade in because with the 50% bonus + (10% edge) I was looking at $48 or so trade in. However, it only came up with a value of $40 when the GS employee scanned it. I passed on trading due to the drop. Hey, $8.00 is 2 value meals!!! Anyway, I decided to take it back today as I was able to pick up a $30.00 copy of ME2 from TRU on the BBC2 promo. At this point, I'm making $10 right? Now here's where it gets interesting...the guy scanned it & it comes up with $55.20 total...wow, where'd that come from!!! Of course, I didn't question it. Great deal eh? Anyway, was thinking, is there a chance that they drop trade in values on block buster release days?

TRU had an offer where if you bought Bad Company 2, you could get 50% off select titles, one of them being L4D2. There was a glitch/error in their systems, though, which was causing people to get the second game for almost nothing. I saw someone with a receipt where they got the two games for like $65.

yesterday toysrus had a sale, "buy battlefied bad company 2, get 1 of the following games half off" and one of those games was l4d2. but there system had a glitch nationwide, that made the sale into "buy BC2 and one of these games, get 50% off both!". so many people bought BC2 and L4D2 and flipped it straight to gamestop.

glitch is dead today though

i was able to pick up BC2 and Dante's Inferno for a comfortable $60

Holy shit, I really lucked out then. lol Anyways, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get Mass Effect 2 at Toys R us with Battlefield and pretty much get any game you want by trading ME2 at Gamestop.
 
I traded in Dante's Inferno Friday it was 25 -> 40 w edge n bonus.
not bad considering i bought it from bestbuy pricematched for $40
platted it in a day
Heavy Rain was the same 25 ->40
got it with the heavy rain me2 25% coupon
platted in 2 days, lol

To whomever is buying Mass Effect 2 elsewhere on the cheapo, with the intent to flip it at gamestop, your keeping the cerberus card inside right? You can sell that on ebay for a little extra cash i think.
 
I know this is a bit complex but you cags are awesome at thriftness so help me out. I want RE5 gold. TRU is supposed to have a B1G1 $20 off for games $40+ next week? So I get RE5gold for 50 and would they price match $40 Dante's Inferno? knock that down to $20? so $70 out at tru and trade in Dante's Inferno at Gamestop for $40cred hoping the tiv stays strong. so $30 RE5 gold? Thanx in advance

Do not know if TRU pricematches, but problematic with a PM and a promo combined.

Lego Rock Band - $10

Funny aside. I recently moved, so I went to the nearest GS today, one where they don't know me yet. And when the cashier printed out my receipt & saw the balance on my Edge card, he said 'Holy ... What the hell did you trade in?' I just laughed and walked out. I guess it's good he didn't see that there's still credit on my expired Edge card too lol.

What to do with LFD 2 since G$ TIV dropped. I still have not opened it from yesterday. Should I return it TRU ? Whats the best way to get the most money out of this games without much hassle ?
 
Returning it would be a problem since you didn't really pay for it, right? Just sell it on here, Amazon, or Gazelle.

How do you renew the edge card because mine still has money and it might be expired lol. Going to try to and get the DLC content for RE5 with the PSN card by trading in Halo3, GoW, and some old PS2 titles.
 
I believe you still can return it to TRU, and get $20 plus tax.
TRU does it that way to protect itself, so if you return BF:BC2, you won't get the second game for exactly free.
 
If anyone is using the Yowza app for iPhone, they added Gamestop to the list of coupons available.

Currently there's a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $64.99 or more, and a coupon for $20 off of Assassins Creed 2.

Now I know AC2 dropped to $39.99 (and the coupon even states that, was $59.99), but I'm sure one of you sneaky CAG's might try and get $20 off of the $40 price.

AFIK, the Edge membership is not tied with the card. So, you will still have the credit even though your membership has expired. The card has its own account number, and your Edge membership has its own number. The credit will not expire as long as you have the card, so you better not lose it. Check with the store for confirmation.

Got $84.82 for the games, $110 for the PSP for putting it on a DSi XL preorder, not sure if I'm going to actually get the DSi, but I want a PSP 2000 for other... purposes.
 
Hey the 360/Wii combo of Star Wars towards Final Fantasy or God of War worked here in H-town. The counter guy had to overide the deal but that was good since with the extra bumps they came out to 24 a piece. Great flip for me.
