I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

Had I not finally used up all of my credit at GS/BBV/HWV last fall, I would've easily still had around $600-700 in GS credit. But I went on a spending spree buying stuff for friends and family to convert into cash.

I bought a Wii for MSRP, then sold it and a few games I also got from GS to my buddies' family for a bunch off of what I paid in credit. I also picked up a LE/CE of WOW: Lich King for my buddies' bro-in-law and charged him maybe 75% of the cost.

It's an easy way to cash out and get some of your initial investment back(and then some sometimes).
Word! The only time to add cash into the "system" is as seed money. Go to BBV with $20-30 cash, buy a bunch of games, trade to GS for $40-70, buy games from GS to trade back to BBV (even at a loss is ok as long as the net is positive) buy more games to trade to GS.

Wash, rinse, repeat. I'm still working off of $70-80 I dropped at HWV over a year ago and built up my "empire" (85+ games and still hundreds in credit). Patience.
Not everyone has the time to travel back and forth from home/work to hollywood video, blockbuster, gamestop, k-mart, best buy, et al several times a week. Even without the time considerations, most of us don't have a treasure trove of unmolested hollywood videos and gamecrazys. Some CAGs spend real money on games and a chance to get a 50% increase on that cash in the form of credit can be a great return. There is arguable zero downside if he uses the credit that day in lieu of cash.

Ugh! Didn't mean my statement to be critical (although it kinda does sound so), just an affirmation of what I've learned from other CAG's here and have been fortunate enough to implement myself. I still consider myself somewhat of a padawan to some of the full-timers here. :)

As for the time consideration, though - I do all of it either over my lunch hour or on my way back home from work. I did, however, seem to have been blessed with an abundance of BBV's to choose from (less now). Only one HWV left... Tons of GS's.

That's what the weekends and being single are for.;) But lately I don't hit up stores unless I'm going to be in the area usually due to the gas prices increasing again.

Otherwise, I was typically hitting up Blockbuster and all of these other stores when I was out of town for work going to various auto auctions. Since I was only a driver, it sure as hell beat sitting there and staring at the fuckin' wall while waiting to hear if the dealer sold their car(s) or bought some. If they did sell theirs or bought some, then they'd give me a car to drive home many times before the auction ended, so then I'd take a little 'side trip' or nine.:D;)

That was how I managed to make all of these little trips I always write about.:) As long as it wasn't on my dime 90% of the time, I was ok with stopping a few(dozen) times.

And while a 50% increase over what Estebon spent initially was a decent return, he still initially spent nearly $100 in cash to get it all back plus $50 but all in credit. That just doesn't seem very smart when it comes down to it.

It's all relative.

If you're going to be flipping long term, it's a good idea to have a percentage profit in mind for a threshold. This way, you never put too much cash into the cycle. If you only flip on rarer occasions, you should be focusing on the amount of your return more than a simple percentage, because it can arguably be more valuable to you.

The most I was spending to flip was maybe $20-50 per cycle and I was typically making $600-700 from that. I almost always waited till either A) games reached 90% off at Kmart, B) HWV had a $4 prior gen sale or $5 current gen sale or C) Blockbuster had a B1G1.

Otherwise, I'd have to have my head examined if I considered putting in any games that I paid better money for and was only getting a fraction of what I paid back.

But if those spending $100 or so to flip bigger items think they're getting a good deal, then so be it. But unless that $100 or so came from a prior flipping cycle, it still seems like a bad tradeoff to me.

My point is, Estebon could be making a very intelligent and conscious decision on that flip when taking into account his previous and future flipping habits.

When I started out, I flipped like you, usually working out at least a 400% profit per trip, not including the counter-flip. I don't have nearly as much time anymore, and I realized that I was flipping games more than playing them, which I didn't like. So, I weigh my options accordingly. It's not a black and white deal.

I still play my games when I'm flipping some anymore, but I used to do more flipping than playing too. Back when I had the $600-700 or so in credit, I had about 20-30 games and I think I had finished three of them.

If I could trust the cheap 360's on CL to 1) not be stolen and 2) run for long enough for them to be tested and trade in, then I'd switch to buying stuff off CL to flip, since there's ample crap that people are trying to offload on there on a weekly basis.

I had over $1000 credit at one time. That was my highest total at any given point, and I consider myself pretty small time here. Since then, I've been continually replenishing my credit supply through regular flip opportunities. I've accumulated over 200 games as a result and I've played MAYBE 10% of them. I started back when io first started.

I was comfortable with my flipping>playing my games for months, but then I realized that I could strike a balance that worked better for me.

I only really keep the games that I know I'll replay or just load up to goof around in, 90% of which turn out to be sandbox titles like GTA/Just Cause 2/etc. Otherwise, I try to dump my games as quickly as I can anymore, so I'm not losing out on getting the most credit I can for them.

If a game has dropped to where it's below what I'll accept for a TIV(even after promos), then I'll keep it or throw it up on the TL on CAG or put it on CL.

I stopped trying to amass a 'collection' when I realized that staring at the games sitting and collecting dust on my shelf was doing nothing but wasting space and money that I could be getting back via dumping stuff I doubt I'll ever play again. I also figure that if I ever get the urge to play one of those games again, I should be able to find 90% of them super cheap and without much of a hassle.

Was wondering if you guys could clarify the "save $25 on a game 29.99" with eligible title deal. I want to trade in my Dragon Age (360) for the PC version. Does this mean just trading the game in will automatically get me DA for pc for 25 bucks?

Simplest explanation is: If you have a game that trades in for MORE than $25, you get the TIV of it(plus any bonuses should you go for a power trade promo or something and use your EDGE card). If it trades in for LESS than $25, the computer bumps it up to $25 and you receive that amount OFF of the item you want that's priced $29.99 and over.

Man...whole lotta posts, but no TIV's. I'll rectify that:

360
Madden 2010 17.25
Eternal Sonata 5.25

Wii
Bakugan 9.25
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 8.00
Star Wars: Clone Wars: Republic Heroes 4.00
Drawn to Life: Next Chapter 5.00

Curses! on the Drawn to Life drop. There's approximately 4 bazillion copies at my local BBVs.

And my post was not meant to condemn you or cheapest. It was meant merely to point out that somone who is going to spend $150 at GS today is better off making a side trip to the pawn shop and spending $100 for the easy $50 in bonus credit.

I used to flip a lot. My favorite was the Beowulf to Halo 3 flip. Started out with 4 copies of Beowulf for $40 at BB after coupon. Traded them in for $144 in credit at BBV. Buy 3 copies of Halo 3. Trade in Halo 3 to GS for $49 each. Buy 7 copies of Beowulf for $145~, trade them in to BBV for $252, etc. Best part was that copies of both games were everywhere. Probably got a few CAGs banned from BBV.

That being said, you realize how much time you spend flipping once you stop doing it. Just the amount of time I would spend on CAG monitoring potential flips was enough that I should have entered 12 step.

Will be going to GS after work and will report the trade values.

Heh, only about half of those are games I actually traded. Before I went out this morning I called on a bunch of games that I suspected or knew were available for the Blockbuster B1G1 sale, as well as a few games I already owned. I had to call several stores to get all of those values.

I also figure that if I ever get the urge to play one of those games again, I should be able to find 90% of them super cheap and without much of a hassle.
so you don't collect ps1 games anymore?
I have personally seem them deny people in store for not having the bar code intact.
They are not supposed to accept promotional copies with the barcode cut or punched as they were given away free (or really cheap to employees) and are NOT intended for resale.

Easy Solutions:
1) cut the bar code out entirely - they look the title up manually (always works for me)
If they say anything just tell them you used it for a Mail in Rebate promotion.

2) remove the slipcover from the box, or turn the game in without the box.
Some places will give you lower TIV if incomplete, but my district never has.

Problem solved!

More TIV
so you don't collect ps1 games anymore?
Not really. I was kinda dumb for amassing all of the ones I did from the GS 75% off clearance when they still had them too, since most are in reprehensible shape. I'm also kicking myself in the ass for the four I just bought recently from a Salvation Army store for $5 each(Abe's Oddysee, Fear Effect, Batman Beyond and Deception III), since none of them are particularly worthwhile purchases, yet I left behind Silent Bomber, which is worth $30.

The only ones I've kept are ones worth anything and I had the rest of them up on my TL for a looooong time for like $30-40 shipped for like 40+ PS1 titles.

But most were disc only/scratched. I figured for about $1 a pop if someone wanted to take a shot at finding a professional place to resurface them, the whole lot might make someone a nice starter collection.

Just wanted to remind everyone of the 30% PS3 trade-in coupon (40% w/Edge), since there's a lot of trading going on. If you're not trading in bulk, this coupon is perfect. In post #1 of jp's GS Weekly Ad thread. Expires 4/8

Updated lists and database. Also, figure I might as well bring back the movie quotes. I enjoy them and I also don't have to worry about doing as many with the current promo.
Any idea on the new Borderlands expansion that just came out today? I know it's $8.33 at Game Crazy.
$5, I think somebody said a several pages back. The clerk told him to just install it to the hard drive and trade it back in.

Probably not the thread for this, but I've got a question: I just ordered Tales of the Abyss off Gamestop's website for ~$27, and found out one of the stores near me has it in stock. Because I'm 99% sure the one they ship me is going to be without a case or manual, if I buy the one from my local store and swap out the cover art/lack there of, could I get in trouble for that, or do they have a way of knowing?

Xbox 360 Console/wireless.

90.00 (before $50 extra)

I lucked out big time here, I traded it in to get a 40gb PS3 used ($229.99). Opened up the box to a nice 60gb PS3 that goes for $349.99.
