Guitar Tabs=illegal?

When the hell did this happen? Complete fucking bullshit, no way I'm buying $20 song books that only have 2-3 songs that I really want to learn. I just noticed this being in effect at My Songbook (guitar pro tabs), damn.
 
Are you sure those tabs were somebody writing the tabs themselves and not somebody copying tabs out of books and posting them? There's a big difference between the two.

They were user posted tabs. Theres now a disclaimer on the MySongbook front page saying "Providing some tabs - even made by ear - of copyrighted music is illegal. In order to respect the law, downloads have been limited to the [Composition] and [Competition] files. We are going to make our best to find a solution to offer music content without infringing copyrights." :bomb:
 
I was watching the news about a week ago. The newscaster said that you were 3x's more likely to get punished downloading music over child porn.

Lyrics and tabs illegal?! This is bullshit. I mean I understand song piracy but this is not piracy. They lyrics are caught by ear as are the tabs, that information is not owned by anyone. It is just like providing the story of a movie or humming a tune.
 
is this something only in th U.S? Cuz i know here in Canada music downloading is still legal, so i'm hoping the use of guitar tabs is as well.
