I think he's saying if you sign up, you lose the ability to see the ads with the free stuff (avatar gear) on the dashboard.

No, it's true. While the beta dashboard still incorporates ads, they are just default placeholder ads. Not the advertisements everyone else sees with free avatar items included in them. (Skittles, Slim Jim, Hotel Transylvania, Paranorman, Cars.)

Losing that opportunity is not worth the Happy Wars Beta. The actual game is supposed to be free for Gold Members anyway, so you'll get to play it eventually.
