Imports Links: Exclusive Titles and Suggestions:
Anybody interested in imports, EzyDVD is doing a 2 for 50 (or 25 a pop) sale for Universal titles.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/promo.zml?pid=647&ddat=1&dsal=1&dper=1

Import exclusive titles include

Rambo 1-3
The Holiday
Total Recall

And there is also non-combo versions of

Children Of Men
Smokin' Aces
American Werewolf In London
Miami Vice

for you combo haters.

The really nice thing is that the AUD is weaker than the US dollar. So I was able to grab Rambo: First Blood for only 27.23 AUD (US $22.39)
does the name of the person that bought the HD player have to match the name you put on the rebate form?

Awesome deal here, I grabbed 2 of em as headed out way in the boonies to a walmart out there (the one were I camp at for new consoles and always get them). I got two as my mom wanted one, not to hoard and resell.

I got my HD DVD player today as well for 98 dollars and Tax. I also picked up Casino, 12 Monkeys and The Luckt Number Seven or Sleven or what it is. I have a 1080i TV but i think id rather have them run at 720p. Anyway to make sure it runs at 720P?

I live in Oklahoma and went to Walmart this morning for the 98.99 HD DVD.
I didn't get there till about 8.15 and figured they all would be gone, but they had a bunch of them.
The sign say $198, but I take one to the check out and it rings up at 198. I asked about the sale and the electronics associate tells me it's no available in this state.
Did anyone else run into this??????

i think they said in the ad (if you saw it) that this deal was not available in some states...OK i believe was one of them...

and still no answer on whether the name on the rebate form has to be the same as the name on the credit card you used to pay for the HD DVD Player?

Okay I have a few questions.

I bought this in advance for when my family gets an hd tv (it was too good a deal to pass up with the 5 free movie mailin form).

Can I use this puppy on a standard def tv to watch regular dvds and hd dvds (even though it will just display in 480)? If so, do I need to get another cable (my tv has svideo and composite)?

At alot of retail stores, CC, Best Buy, Walmart, ect, pretty much all of the video being displayed on their hd tvs is grainy as all hell. Is that because they are splitting a video signal or are they all just really crappy tvs? I can still see alot of grain on some of the 1080p tvs from about 5 feet away...

What would you reccomend for a flat screen 40 inch tv with many hookups:
wii (component),
xbox 360 (component),
comcast digital cable (component?),
hd dvd player (HDMI),
and PS3 (HDMI)

for a good price?

Mine was sold out of their 30 when I got there at 9am. I picked up one movie.

There was a guy at the register with his basket full of A3's, arguing with the checkout lady that he saw it on the internet for $99, but she wouldn't budge, as they were ringing up at $300. Funny stuff.

THE REBATE FORM IS IN THE OP.

FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN THE PREVIOUS OFFER, IT'S STILL ONE PER HOUSEHOLD. THE NUMBER TO CALL FOR QUESTIONS ON THE REBATE IS ON THE REBATE FORM....FOUND IN THE OP.

A handful of states have minimum pricing laws which say stores can't sell items as loss leaders (below cost) Your state must be one of those.

I had no problem picking one of these up in Citrus Heights, CA this AM. Got there about 30 minutes before 8AM and there were just a few people. By 8AM there were probably a dozen or so people waiting when they wheeled out about 20 of the players. Sweet deal! Since I already have a 360 add on I'm giving this one to the 'rents for Christmas. It'll go well with their 50" HD set.

For the sheer fact that he was gonna probably hoard the A2s if he got them, I would have told him to shut the fuck up

First yes you can hook it up and watch it on a SD TV I would use S-Video at the very least.

Second in store it all depends on how it's hooked, up there will be some signal loss with multiple splits depending on how they have the store wired.

Third, Go look over at the Other deals forum and avsforum.com for TV ideas. I live by the motto get what you can afford in the biggest Size for your room. Read some reviews and take a look at all the specs.

i think the spelling of hoard should officially be changed to WHOARED...of course...keeping the same meaning (As if they have very different meanings anyway) lol

When you hook up your A2, before popping in a disc, press the Settings button on the remote. You can then set the output resolution of the player.
Is this good in-store?
Not sure, but you can always buy online and pick up instore.

BTW: Evan Almighty sucked ass, but I highly recommend Knocked Up.

I already saw EA on SD and it was ehh...

I want to see Knocked Up, but I hate Katherine Heigl. What a predicament.

I'll second this, Evan Almighty wasn't even worth renting...and I got it as a FREE rental.

Knocked Up is hilarious, however I'm pissed that they didn't put all the 2-disc features on HD-DVD. I bought it on standard just because of that.
see my big problem with sending in another rebate form (since i have 2 addresses) is...i forgot which addy i put on the first form i sent in...lol...anyone offer some help w/this matter?
Use the address of:

Your parents
Grandparents
A friend
Neighbor

I used my grandparents. I've been sending stuff there for years.

Around 11 AM, my local Wal-mart still had five left (No idea how many they actually had total). My parents were in the market for a new DVD player, so I got them the A2.

I actually completely forgot about the free five titles till my older brother mentioned it.

Didn't see this mentioned...BestBuy.com now has the A3 for $200, plus you get 2 free in box (right? 300 and Bourne Identity?) plus the 2 free of your choice.

Something I noticed though - the 2 free of your choice are supposed to not include pre-orders, but if you add pre-orders to your cart, they get zeroed! I tried it with Shrek 3 and The Aviator, so I'm not sure if it'll work for all pre-orders.

I didn't order, I'm debating whether I want a 4th HD-DVD player (this would be the 6th one I bought in the last week ...not hoarding, but I got 2 360 add-ons, decided I'd much rather have standalone players, sold them cheap (~$90), I want 2 players for myself - living room and bedroom - and will give the others to my sister and my parents for Xmas.).

just got the a-3 for $300 last week :(

gonna see if i can price match it and get my money back

owned, my bro went to the walmart in Lawrence, KS.. it's 24hours so people took them before 8AM and just walked around with them in their carts. A guy even took 10!!! I wish there was a limit lol

That's pretty tempting, if I consider the fact that I will be spending $60 for 2 new movies and I could eBay 300 and Bourne since I already have them...dang...I think I'll bite.

I saw a lady with 2 in a cart just standing around about 720am. I just went up to the counter and said, it's on the shelf with a $99 price so you'll sell it at that price now, right? It rang up for the correct price, she didn't have to make an adjustment or anything. Said she had already sold a couple of them and 4-5 of the laptops they have on sale.

Yup...I'm skipping the A2 and going for the A3 at Best Buy. I conviced my Sony fanboy friend to go neutral and buy my A2 at cost, with Transformers and King Kong and I'll get the A3 with Shrek and maybe Chuck & Larry.

I got the HD-A2 at Wal-Mart. I already have the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive, but at $99 I couldn't pass it up. Good times.

I would never have even known about it without CAG. Thanks to all.

I decided to just keep the A2. Not in desperate need of more hd dvds and can wait for black friday sales. Actually realized that I have about $180 and my money would be better spent saving up for a ps3 (Disney movies and Metal Gear Solid 4 have pretty much made up my mind).

Can you tell me what difference there is between the models? I looked on the toshiba website and it seems the A3 has a little better audio quality and that's it. Thanks for the help, would really like the BB deal if thae A3 had added benefits for the extra $100.

That's pretty much how I feel. $100 was my price point for an HD-DVD player all along. Plus the A3 doesn't really do anything the A2 can't, right? Maybe if it was the 1080p model to "future-proof" myself. I like picking out free movies, but the included ones (if they're still included) don't do much for me. And 2 moves isn't worth another $100.

I'm pretty tempted to bite on the CC $130 for the A2...but the A3 w/ 2 free DVDs would be sweet if in fact I would get my pre-orders (since they are zeroing but are excluded). I figure Pan's Labyrinth and Zodiac would make up for the difference. Any idea if they would actually follow through with my pre-order HD-DVDs??

Same here, but I have a HDTV in my bedroom also so thats were the A2 is going.

The A3 supports 1080p...that's all I know to tell you the truth.

EDIT: NVM it only does 720p/1080i res.
The A3 supports 1080p...that's all I know to tell you the truth.
Nope. 1080i only.

BTW, a tip for any new A2 owners who want to update their firmware via the ethernet jack. I would wait a day or two because Toshiba's servers are probably going to get a lot of traffic this weekend. You can also burn a FW CD from Toshiba's website.
The A3 supports 1080p...that's all I know to tell you the truth.
but Best Buy's site says: Maximum Output Resolution
Upconvert to 720p/1080i
for the HD-A2

to tell you the truth I already have the xbox 360 addon and seeing as how things are going this stuff will probably be $50 at black friday...

Whoa...sorry if I gave out wrong info. I don't know where I heard that it did 1080p...my bad. Now I'm not so sure If I should get it. I mean it pretty much pays for it self, 9 HD DVD's total. I can sell 300 and Bourne Identity and my XBOX360 add-on...but I'm not so sure now.

Thanks for the clarification.

I looked at a couple of review websites (cnet, etc) and they say the A3 has a shorter boot time and the machine itself has a smaller profile than the A2 and that's about it. Not really worth the extra $100 then. Oh well thanks for the heads up, just staying with the A2.

Does it? I'm pretty sure the BB website says 720p/1080i. However, it really doesn't matter for most people with 1080p sets anyway, right? Since the TV de-interlaces the image?
