The time has come to bid our preferred format farewell. An unfortunate but obvious conclusion to the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray battle is that one of them would have to get buried in the end. I was happy to see many dual-format owners say that they preferred HD DVD, and even now the format offers some features that Blu-Ray is still catching up with.

Although the manufacturing of new players has come to a close, Toshiba will continue to support and service current players for the next several years.

The original HD DVD thread can still be found here and does have some helpful information here and there and was quite useful during the format's life. However, as it approached the 4500 post mark, it's clear that this is as good a time as any to start fresh.

Got mine yesterday too.

Four Brothers, Harry Potter OotP, Knocked Up, Children of Men(have already), Bourne Identity(got one in my other freebies).

3 out of five's not bad. This is the part where I admit something kind of bad. When I bought my 360 drive I noticed there where 2 sticker upc codes on the box. I put a t-shirt over the box and ran an iron over it to remove both. I was told that both codes would have the same serial number, and they did. There were a different sequence of numbers for some of the other barcodes on the two stickers making them not identical. I figured it'd be worth a try, and it worked. 4 1/2 months later.
 
i think i sent my card in around February and also got the delay postcard. im actually relieved cause they've denied me twice before for stupid reasons. at least i now know they accepted my application and i still might get some movies.
 
There were two packages in today's mail!

One was part of our order from Deep Discount DVD - Apollo 13 and The Fugitive.

The other was our five discs from the Toshiba program, despite getting the postcard a couple weeks ago. Didn't get anything we asked for, but since we didn't care about anything we asked for anyway, it didn't matter:
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (combo format; keeping this)
- The Last Samurai
- Four Brothers (sounds like some plastic in the case is broken)
- Knocked Up (combo format, UPC scratched out)
- Smokin' Aces (combo format, UPC scratched out)

If anyone wants any of those last four, let me know (in this topic or by PM) and we can see about arranging something. I'd like to trade for Lost in Translation, Lady in the Water, Shrek the Third, or any of the Potter movies, if you've got any of them laying around and don't want them, but mostly I just want to get rid of stuff we don't want. I am aware that I have no trader feedback, but my husband is on CAG as falcon815 and has a good trader feedback history.

Four Brothers sounds like it might actually be good. Opinions?

I have ordered from hmv.co.uk in the past tp the US. However, I remember shipping was a bit high--and they don't remove VAT from the prices like amazon.co.uk does.

That is a great deal on Hotel Babylon--If I hadn't already gotten the Blu-Ray version, I would definitely have gotten that. May wait on the Robin Hood since it's coming to Blu here--and the UK releases were 1080i and I think the US is going to be 1080p--and don't have to worry about combo discs. But $30 for that is a great deal. I think amazon had a similar price on Robin Hood--but with vat removal may be cheaper for US buyers.

I haven't gotten mine yet, but my dad opened the package for me and it sounds like the regular edition.

Everybody I've heard from has said they've recieved the newer/remastered one instead of the original.

Same with Troy and the director's cut.

So a couple of months ago I got a notice because I sent the form in but failed to check off any of the movies I wanted (lol, hanging head in shame). I sent the form back to them the same day via priority mail and called them a few weeks ago to confirm that everything was ok (it was). I haven't gotten a postcard (yet) or any other indication of the status of the selection.

At this point I'm indifferent about the movies I get... I just want to be sure I get movies I don't already have... getting a good movie is secondary.

Definitely worth picking up. I hadn't seen it before and semi-blind-bought when it was like £18... figured all the praise was for something. Really liked the movie, and on day 30, when it dropped to £9, I managed to get the price match.

DEFINITELY worth picking up if you're on the fence. It's a good movie and the HD-DVD is a very good transfer (not to mention it's getting very hard to find).
 
Well I got my movies today...

I checked off Aeon Flux, Pitch Black, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Firewall and Troy
They sent me The Departed, Harry Potter, The Bourne Identity, The Last Samurai, Top Gun

Seriously Bourne Identity the same movie we got with our players? What the hell is that? Harry Potter which I want but on the wrong format. All I was hoping to get was Troy and Pitch Black but oh well, time to make a trade list.

Not that I heard of.

SpringtownDVD still seems to be the best place to get them from but you wouldn't be able to order from them. If you are in California, you have to show proof that you are from retailer (or something like that) since they are a wholesale place.

Remember that not everyone got that with their player - some of us got the Xbox 360 add-on, and that came with King Kong.

So what are you saying? Am I supposed to be fine with getting it just because it wasn't included in your Xbox add-on? The movies included in any of the players should not have been subbed in for this rebate.

The movies that were offered on the rebate form played a big part in me purchasing a HD DVD player in the first place. Hopefully you can see my side of it.

I hear you on that. Again, though, they are free. And anytime any company has a promotion like that, you are running the risk of getting replacements, if a particular product is no longer available.

I seem to have found a source for cheap copies of Lady Scarface on HD-DVD.

Would anybody be interested in a group order? I have 5 potential slots and it would be about $15 per copy.
 
In the terms it was stated that they had the right to offer substitutions. So a little bummed.

Of the ones I originally chose, I got:
Children of Men
Full Metal Jacket

My substitions included:
Billy Madison (an OK choice but not screaming for the HD treatment)
Four Brothers (I didn't even want to see this for free on cable)
Miami Vice (did I piss off someone at Toshiba?)

I got my disc:

Of my original choices, I only got Aeon Flux

The substitutions were:
Children of Men
Bourne Identity
Blood Diamond
The Departed (I already have the combo disc)

I can't complain. I was hoping they would have subbed in The Kingdom, Knocked up, or Balls of Fury, but free is free.

Overall, I got 8 free movies, Heroes Season One, a remote and a $50 Best Buy gift for buying the Xbox HD add on. I'm happy with my HD DVD experience.
