Hey all. Now that the warm weather is back, I've decided to start taking my dog for extended walks, but since she's not much of a conversationalist, I'm looking for an mp3 player to bring along. I don't need much, just something to toss a few songs and some podcasts onto.

I've been looking at these two, so if anyone has experience with either (or a link to something better in that price range), let me know. Thanks! :)

i used to go for the sansa brand but they would die out on me regularly ( screens go black, no sound ect) id say if you want something that will last you have to pay the price. i got a 30gb zune and havent looked back since. but i wanted something that played audio and video if you just need it for audio you can find plenty of cheap stuff on sites like outpost.com .

Sansa's are a popular brand, but if you are just looking for something for music and podcasts, you can't go wrong with the Apple iPod Shuffle. Since the 1GB are only $50 dollars now, I picked one up. I used to use my Blackberry, but the Shuffle clips and is small and durable. I recommend it for your basic listening.

creative was having some sales on their muvo series a while ago. I got 2 of their players one for work and one for home. The muvo 100 is awesome and doesnt need a cable you just plug it in. its a 1gig for $20 from their site. There are others that have radio but this one doesnt.

I have both a 160GB iPod and a 30GB Zune and I'd never use them to go out walking because they're way too bulky/heavy and I would be pissed if they got jacked. Plus I don't need that kind of capacity for walking, etc...

I purchased a Black 2GB SanDisk Sansa Clip and I've never looked back since. I regard it as one of my best purchases ever. This thing is tiny, barely bigger than a DS cart, it's very lightweight and clips on to any piece of clothing easily. The sound quality is fantastic for a unit this size. Unlike the overpriced piece of trash iPod Shuffle you get a nice clear bright OLED screen and you can navigate your music and actually pick which songs you want to listen to. Also has a built in FM tuner, voice recorder and rechargeable battery that lasts a really long time. Also you don't need to install or use complicated synching software to get music on the sansa, just drag/drop files on to it, so easy. Even though it has so much functionality and looks so cool, it's fairly inexpensive so if you lose it or if it gets jacked you're not out that much.

I've had mine for 5 months now and have had no problems whatsoever. I absolutely love it.

Well that's a glowing review -- and perfect price, too. Looks like what I need, so I just placed an order on Newegg. Thanks for the heads up on this :)

For walking I'd say small MP3s are the best. The best is to be able to switch between songs from your pockets (unlike iPods and PDAs). The smaller, cheaper screenless MP3s do a great job for the best price.
