Help me Vegas CAGs, you're my only hope

cheapass Gundam

CAGiversary!
I'll be in Vegas this coming week on a business trip (trade show), any recommendations for cheap shopping/dining/entertainment/thrills will be appreciated, since I hate gambling and the 2nd hand smoke it comes with. Thanks!

I go to Vegas once a year, and I don't drink/smoke/gamble either. There's so much more to do in Vegas that that. I highly recommend eating at the Aladdin buffet, it's not cheap, but it's worth it! There's all kinds of free shows, and really good cheap ones too.

caesars palace has the seafood buffet. that shit is da bomb, but it's expensive. sahara buffet is cheaper and it's not too bad.

I concur on the Aladdin buffet, there was pretty much everything there.

Thanks for the replies, I've been to Vegas a couple of times before but I figured I'll ask and learn about places only locals would know about.

Can't believe no one's mentioned about the Coke place yet. ;)

My favorite sushi chef now works at the Bellagio. It ain't gonna be cheap there, but I'll definitely go check it out.

I recommend going to the Stratosphere and doing all three of the rides there.

And it's 1000 feet tall, not 300. Amazing view of Vegas from up there.

well gameworks is basically the coke place, m&m factory
mgm grand has lions to see
and mirage i dont know if they still got white tigers

and in the stratosphere u can stand on glass and feel like ur falling down
and someone commited suicide from there b4 i think so dont touch the electrified fences

ride the monorail to help vegas economy jk
i dont know what else to do but i highly recommend mikinos? mikados? i 4got the name of it
ppl from cali come here and say that its a better buffet than their best sushi in cali
definitely worth the price

Greyzieoriental's reply is right on the money. Definitely check out the free shows he mentioned, as well as the free show in Circus Circus and the free shows in the Fremont Street Experience. If you want really really cheap food, the graveyard specials at most casinos is the best bang for your buck. Forum shops is a good place to check out, but I personally wouldn't actually buy anything there, as it's really expensive. Check out the Fry's Electronics we have here (well, only check it out if you don't have a Fry's Electronics in your area). Oh, and don't get freaked out when a bunch of people try to hand you pamphlets for escort services when you're walking down the Strip. :)

is that what those are? i always have them offered to me, but i never take it. i always thought it was for casinos.

I live in Las Vegas, rarely smoke, rarely drink, and never gamble.

The only thing I like in the Caesar's shopping mall is the Cheesecake Factory restaurant...they give HUGE ass portions so I can justify spending the money there when I go out to eat on the strip (appetizers the size of actual meals, meals can easily be split between 2 people). Plus the cheesecake is good too, and its right next to the free fish tank/Atlantis show.

Fry's is a tourist trap and a nightmare to get in and out of...the location is south on the strip before the big vegas casinos start, and a pain in the ass to get leave...plus its ALWAYS busy. DO NOT go there if you are paying for a cab. Plus they do not have alot of the CAG deals that you guys get in Cali and Texas...if you go there as a tourist expecting CAG deals you will be disappointed, this Frys caters to wealthy foreign tourists. You would have better luck hitting up a local pawn shop hoping some desperate gambler sold off his video game collection.

The Shark Reef at Mandalay bay costs money to see ($10-14 i think depending on time of year). The animals that were used in the Sigfried and Roy shows (not just the tigers) and the dolphins are on display at Sigfried and Roy's Secret Garden at the Mirage...$10 to get in, and IMHO was worth the money, as it cheaper to pay $10 to see all the animals than pay $100 for the show (before the show ended of course). Its really a mini zoo back there, but it closes at 4 pmish. Go around 2:30/3 p.m. before feeding time and the animals are hungry, you can watch the lions run around in thier exhibits awake, roaring and growling.

Most strip clubs in Las Vegas have free cover if you go in during the daytime...you just have to buy alcohol while you are there. Lapdances are extra. So get your cheapass in there before 4 p.m.! If you want to see boobies at night but not be harassed by a crowd, my suggestion is to buy tickets to a topless show at a casino...Midnight Fantasy at the Luxor is $45 a ticket, drinks are optional, and with no waitress or strippers to harrasss you for drinks and money, you can actually sit and enjoy a show. Plus few people smoke in there. Oh yeah, Luxor has a big arcade you might want to check out, plus an Imax theater that runs regular movies too (I want to see the new Stars Wars movie when they release it ).

The Belz Outlet mall sucks, but the newer one near the Fremont Street attraction is much nicer and the deals much better. The only downside, it closes at 7p.m. And if you drive to Freemont Street, don't park in thier parking structure, they charge you a fee to park there.

By far the cheapest thing to do is walk the strip at night and peoplewatch and catch the free shows (Volcano at the Mirage, pirates at Treasure Island, idiots singing karoake at Imperial Palace, Belagio water fountains). My favorite hours to wander the strip to see wierd/funny stuff go on is between the hours of 10 p.m. and 1 a.m...all the freaks seem to come out right around them. Just don't walk past the Stratosphere, because then you get into the downtown slummy area of Vegas, and its not exactly safe (especially if you are not in a group).

As for buffets on the strip, I avoid them as much as possible...they are overpriced, and often the buffets offstrip at the locals' casinos are far superior. But if I was forced to go to one...the breakfast buffet at Paris is very very good...fresh made french pastries! Or, if you are adventurous, try making friends with the locals and have them take you to thier favorite buffets.

Hmm, I'm sure I've forgotten something...just ask me more and I'll post what I can. Or I'll post up more if I can remember it.

Another website to check out, for Vegas deals, is www.lasvegastalk.com

Its a forum where people post there trip deals, and locals post newspaper articles/events. Also go to cheapolasvegas like Chris in Cali mentioned....

if your gonna go downtown and watch the fremont street experience
parking is free if you go to a parking garage that has validation
then go inside the casino get the ticket stamped and its free

the fremonst st exp, is pretty gay IMO
they also got the new hawaiian street thing at the aladdin or venetian? somewhere around there, never actually went there but drove past many times

the fashion show mall has an EB games on te second floor incase u wanna go there
also an EB games across the street from the blvd mall int he vons shooping center
probably something u dont wanna do though

i havent been to neonopolis which is the downtown mall someone posted about
its an outside mall i think and its getting pretty hot recently so get some sun block

Imax theater in the luxor and i forgot they got an arcade there
also an arcade at the excalibur

frys IMO isnt that bad, not really that many deals but if u look around hard enough i'm sure u'll find something, i never seen it crowded or had to wait for anything, the parking lot does fill up though, but its like an electronics version of sams club or costco, a must see if u never seen a frys

never been to a strip club so i dont know much bout them, just that behind the circus circus there is like a whole street of sex places and going down paradise too, the way to the airport

Vegas is gonna look amazing at night to a tourist, but be sure to watch the water fountains at the bellagio, best free show on the strip, nice place to take your gf

anything on the strip is basically a rip off though
i also hate the casinoes sick smell of 2nd hand smoke
i use to smoke but since i stopped the smell of ciggs, cigar smoke sickens me
u can play some slots for fun though, who knows a dollar might win u a million

There used to be an awesome arcade off strip that had all sorts of Bemani (Konami music games like DDR, Beatmania) and all the newest games. It was like a Japanese arcade in Vegas. I'm pretty sure it closed down a year ago though =/

Not everything that is great to do in Vegas is on the strip. But sometimes I just like walking around through the different hotels and taking in the atmosphere. The first time I stayed in the Luxor offseason. It was relatively quiet and really awesome to just sit there on some bench checking everything out. I loved it.
