My question is: what cables do I need to get the best possible performance?

I take it you have surround sound speakers to use with that receiver right?

Anyway, since the Hi Def pack should come with cables, all you'll need is an optical audio cable.

Search www.froogle.com for those.

If you're going to run this through the receiver, you'll need another set of component cables as well (red, blue, green Coaxial) to run from the receiver to the TV. If you want to hook up a DVD player as well (component cables are required to get a progressive scan picture), figure on another set of component cables. A 6 foot optical digital audio cable runs about $10 to $15. You can get them at any RadioShack or Target if you want to go local. Hopefully you've got a 5.1 surround speaker set up to enjoy the quality 5.1 sound.

Have you listened to this Sony receiver yet? I'm not an audiophile snob by any means, but my experience with Sony budget receivers is that they're pretty hissy and prone to breakdowns. I'd recommend going with something like a Denon AVR-485S for about the same price (can be found for less than $250 on the net). Just my $ .02.
