How do you pronounce caramel

Heh, I actually say it two ways.

If it's a little chewy candy I say "car-muhl."

However, if it's referring to like a flavor of something, I say "care-uh-mel."

Care-uh-mel, that is the correct pronunciation, I'm an expert.

car-muhl is for people that hate syllables
it's more like carrot than carebear for the first syllable, saying care-uh-mel makes you sound southern.
Southern would be care-uh-mail, car-muhl actually works for the south too

Why don't you sound out those two words back-to-back and get back to us.

I don't know about you, but I don't pronounce them the same way.

It's probably just a regional difference, but care-ot sounds ridiculous to me.

How the fuck do you pronounce it then? Ka rot?

Really? Cuz I was thinking the exactly same thing as cocheseUSA, how exactly do you pronounce carrot so the car is different from care in carebear?

It's three syllables, "care-uh-mel."

"Carmel" is a city in southern California. I believe it is near Monterey Bay, but I'm not positive. I think it is usually referred to as "Carmel-by-the-Sea."
Same is in the name Caryn.

Carry might be a better example.
Might be.

Caryn = Karen = "Care-un." Or maybe "Care-on" depending on your accent.

Care-uh-mel (or Care-ah-mel, depending on accent).

"Care-ee."

Make sense to me.

Now, that carrot shit? Unpossible.

I know it's the name of a mission along the El Camino Real.

I also know that the substance itself is delicious.

I should have just quoted Ricebo1...

care rhymes with air...

carrot rhymes with parrot... unless you guys say pair-ot?

I'm probably confusing things by using other examples, it's hard to explain pronunciation using text.

carra-melle... that's all there is to it.

You don't say al-u-min-i-um, do you?

yeah I would say that carrot, parrot, and pair-ot would all sound the same, as would air-ot.

Kar-uh-Mel

This got needlessly confusing.
You don't say al-u-min-i-um, do you?
Now you're just being silly.

I guess I could record my voice, that might be fun.

Just making sure I didn't need this.

But seriously, the accents are all the same according to the dictionary. I don't understand how the way I say it is weird.

also willard all your examples sound the same.

the wife and i had this argument years ago (she says car-muhl, i ca-ra-mel) after searching, i found BOTH are correct.

also, on tv commercials, i've noticed the EXACT same commercial would say it differently between here (miami, fl) anf where my wife's from (minnesota).
