I've heard this thrown around before with people condemning the role of the CIA or J. Edgar Hoover with some purported domestic role in the drug trade, but I've never heard an in-depth analysis of the issue at all. I'm aware of the CIA's varied role in Latin America in the mid to late 20th century, but the historical literature I've encountered mainly revolves around issues of labor, corporations (UFCO, etc), nationalization of industries, and fears of Socialism. However, I've read nothing on the drug trade.
Anyone care to enlighten me on the subject? Or is there anything to be really enlightened about?
