Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
For those that may be questioning this as a waste of money, all signs point to there being support for WebOS. Just need the dev community to not overlook it. As fast as these things are selling out everywhere, you'd think there's still a market for WebOS apps.

http://www.precentral.net/kerris-work-webos-and-app-ecosystem-will-continue
Well dumping a million or so new devices into the market could help. Not sure what the outstanding inventory is but BB had about 200,000...I am sure these will be sold when HP gets them back.
I don't know. They may not be killing their app store b/c webos is still going to be their platform for smartphones like the palm pre, etc. right?

Anyway, i searched bestbuy.com for inventory at local stores and it shows unavailable. so is this accurate or does the stock locator for these two skus just not work for everyone?

the two skus are:
2842092 and 2842056
i read somewhere that bb may be returning all their stock to HP. that's maybe why stock locator says unavailable.

Trogdor, If I've got something to read comics on thats bigger than an iPod Touch and isn't my laptop, I'm happier than a pig in shit. I can see why others wouldn't need one though, but I have a great use. Video is a plus as well as is the browser. For $150, I figure that more than worth it.
They don't have as many Apps as Google or Apple do they? I'd have to assume that what they have now (and the stuff that's currently in development) is all they're going to have. I really doubt that anyone is going to be licensing Web OS. Can you link me some news or an interview where this is directly said by HP executives? I just read an Engadget interview and saw no mention of licensing it. Was this mentioned in HP's earnings conference call? I thought Engadget listened to that one?
Reading that engadget interview, which was with Stephen DeWitt, head of the WebOS division, I got the impression they're already in talks with manufacturers.

"Has the company been in talks with third party manufacturers?

Of course we have."

I had a Pre, first day it came out. WebOS was awesome, just needed some great hardware backing it and it could've been a really great mobile OS.

All things considered, I don't really need the marketplace to explode with all kinds of cool apps, because what they already had 2 years ago, combined with a tablet interface for a decent price is all I really need for my situation. $99-$149 is a damn good price my friends!

For the $157 I just spent I will be happy if I can browse the web, listen to some music, watch some videos, read some pdfs and maybe look at some excel sheets. Anything else is gravy for this price. Not having to lug my laptop (5.5 lbs) into the living room to sit on the couch during Sunday football to keep track of my fantasy football team is worth $50 right there. :)

Anyone on here still looking for one. Respond fast if so, I might be able to order one for in-store pickup at wal-mart locally, albeit 30 minutes away. Its the 16 GB one, $99. If anyone wants to pay just a little more for the taxes and long drive that awaits me, I can try and get one.

Wow, this got busy after I left, I see...

I told a friend about this last night after my sister scored a few for us, so he decided to camp out at a local BB and try to snare one at opening. He just called me to tell me that there's a line formed out there that is approaching several dozen strong...says if people keep dropping in like they have been, by the time the store opens in a few hours it'll be near Black Friday conditions. Yikes...good luck to anyone trying their luck in store at opening.
I want one, if you can get me one that would be great.
I need a firm answer. Is $120 a fair price to you, considering my travel and taxes plus shipping? To reiterate, this is the 16GB touchpad we are talking bout.

It's funny, a friend at work and I were discussing getting tablets just this week to keep from having to drag a bulky laptop along on vacation/small trips etc. And to keep the wives off our gaming PC's for their facebook stuffs.

Put in an order for two 16GB at my local Wal-mart in store pick up. Saying not sold at my store now when I look, so I hope I am really getting them.

Was just going to get one for the wife, but visions of having FAQ's, PDF guides, or browsing for game information while playing my non-PC games started dancing through my head.

just picked up a 16gb for $105.29. Wal-Mart Avon, CT. had plent 16gb and 32gb in stock, first person in store !

Is the Walmart store pickup accurate? I mean it says not available for pickup with any store remotely close to me. That actually means none of them have it?
Is the Walmart store pickup accurate? I mean it says not available for pickup with any store remotely close to me. That actually means none of them have it?
I called two nearby, one had them, but at regular price and theother claimed to have never had them (??). Can anyone confirm that the price is ringing up in-store?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just called another one that had one left for $149, so teh second store I called just never checked the price. I'm heading over now (which happens to be right by the flea market I hit every weekend). Wish me luck!

I've gotten a response for the touchpad I offered up earlier. Sorry to all. Hope you all get one for yourselves as well though, happy searching!!
Man, this is madness.

Is it worth it to hit up BestBuy this late in the day? What about MicroCenter? Is either going to have this for 100?
I am almost positive those people waiting at BB are going to be disappointed. BB said they are returning them to HP instead of selling them at clearance. Microcenter might still have them. Check the website for your local store to get the $99 price.

go online...put in the store that had it...put it in cart, pick your store...they will email you when its ready to pick up at the discounted price.

All local stores say "cannot be picked up today at this store" when I go to check out.

MicroCenter in Cambridge, MA is showing them out of stock :whistle2:#

BB is AIDS so I'd rather stay away from there. I need to go to Target anyways so I'm wondering if it's worth taking a crack at the B&M stores. They open real soon. Thanks for the info!

I agree. They will not price match the HP's. It is stated very clearly on their website.

Just got a 16GB at Walmart in Roscoe, IL. Limited supply. 1 per person. $99 and $150 respectfully. They had 2 16GB left and 5 32GB. Had two other guys show up there with me who snagged two of the 32GB.

If any one wants one, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Most likely can only get 16gb locally.

Also found a Metroid Prime Trilogy too. Sucks it's $50 though.

i have one im trying to order though hp.com...when added it to the cart it was $99, when i go to review after tossing up my credit card info it shows $399?
Just got my pickup ready e-mail from Walmart (East Coast). Now I just have to wait until "Store Pickup Hours" which starts at 10AM.
Jealous. :p I'm still waiting on mine. When'd you order yours?

i called my local walmart and they have 3 of them but won't sell them for $99. i get the feeling that 3 employees are going home with them today.
i called my local walmart and they have 3 of them but won't sell them for $99. i get the feeling that 3 employees are going home with them today.
Calling the store is risky business. Best to just march up there and snipe 'em up before the employee's do!

This is exactly why I'm not fucking with trying to buy one in-store. I'd rather just save my time and rage and use the money toward something else.

Wife just picked up the $99 one at Wal-Mart on her half hour break. Can't wait to mess with it when she gets home, the tablet that is. lol

we have two hands. Just throwing that out there ;)
we have two hands. Just throwing that out there ;)
Ha! I must admit, that was awesome thinking on your part!:applause:

Welp, I tried buying one at Walmart a few minutes ago, and after showing them the HP website, this site, walmart online.. they wouldnt price match! I guess I shouldnt be too surprised, they still had teh 499 price tag for the 16gb just last sunday.

HSN was selling these with a case with 4 easy pays two days ago, they have since been removed. Might want to keep an eye on that site for deal too.

I might try BestBuy in the morning, but SD people are always all over that store. If there is a limit per customer then Ill have a chance. This would be a great device to use as a skype face chat with the grandparents. They would never spend more than 100 for such a device. No netflix is almost a deal breaker for me, thats what i use these for the most when out and about.
Put an order through Microcenter.com (cart is showing the $99 Price). We'll see if it goes through. Fingers crossed.
I just completed my order through microcenter.com. Havent received confirmation email, nor can I find the item on the site anymore.

Just got home from work and read all 32 pages here. Wow. Will have to go out and see if I can find a 16gb in the wild.

Picked up a 32 gb for 149 at office depot in store this morning. Figured since the higher price when was the same anyway I would avoid the fight at walmart and get one there.

My order at Microcenter.com wouldn't go through. Not sure what's up with that, I assume sold out.

Tried my local Wal-Mart, same thing as everyone else. They won't price match. They had 2 32 gig in stock, and I'm sure employees will be leaving with those.
I just completed my order through microcenter.com. Havent received confirmation email, nor can I find the item on the site anymore.
Just marinate for a minute. My bank posted the hold pretty quickly. I just got my confirmation e-mail about 30 seconds before typing up this post. I posted up my post about 5 minutes after I completed my order.

I'm thinking the SD goons F5 fucked them pretty hard on this.
