Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

I knew it would only be a matter of time...

Thing is there's a lot of cool webOS stuff too so I hope it's ported in a way you can run both. If not though you'd almost have to go with Android. Only thing I'd be concerned about is that I know a lot of apps will only work on certain devices and you can be blocked out... So if you download Android to this later do you then always have to download illegal software or will you be able to go in and get it all legit like it was any other supported device (or maybe the OS can then fool the marketplace into thinking it's a legit device?)
Yes it should be in their system...it will ring up at the discounted price.

If you wanted it, you should go back and buy it and look at his dumb expression after you called his bluff.
Well, I stopped by to find they had the 32 GB version box, but it was their demo unit. They refused to sell the demo unit to me so I guess I'm out of luck. Oh well, I was looking for something that my daughter could use besides my ipad so not a huge deal.
While it is true they're a big corporation and it's hard to question them. I honestly can't help but feel like it's just to kinda shove it in HP's face. I mean Best Buy has been VERY public about their distaste for the fact that they haven't sold very well.

On a positive note for a lot of people, once HP gets them back they should come back into stock.
There might be a little hint of that. But honestly, have you ever know a big corporation to do anything except maximize their money? It's hard to imagine any best buy exec turning down money just to make a point. This is best buy after all.

definitely.

My HP website order is still being verified. I just chatted to the CS telling me that she is not sure if my order will be confirmed or cancelled. Then i asked her if she can add an additional order for $99 16Gb then she told me that their stocks of HP Touchpad is already sold out in their warehouse. She then proceeded to telling me to check back on their website in the upcoming days or weeks as there is a chance that Touchpad may comeback in stock.

We really need to have a different thread for 'touchpad discussions' as I'm sure there are as many touchpad owners on CAG as there are people with 3DS.

Well, there will be after today!!

I want to believe I just scored 2 HP 32GB Touchpads on HP.COM. Before anyone trying to blast me as a hoarder, that is not the case. I accidentally added 2 into my cart since nothing was showing up in my cart and I was scared to refresh the page since all these error codes kept coming up. Anyway, I went there to order a backup touchpad since Staples might cancel my order.

Got lucky at my Walmart. Apparently, the 16gb's sold out earlier this morning, but the price drop for the 32gb did not come through until about 8:00 this morning. I was there 15mins after the drop. The guy was still putting up the sign.

They had 5. I bought 2. The next person in line bought 2. There were 2 call inquiries while I was checking out. I signed up for a Walmart credit card and got another $20 off my purchase.

The other guy in electronics was going to buy the last one if it was still there at 9 when he went on break.

ARGH!!! I was finally able to get the cart to come up at HP and sloooooowly made it thru the registration and checkout process only to have it fail on submission!!! After several attempts to back up and refresh, I *think* I got one for $99 + tax, free shipping. I'll believe it when I get a confirmation email AND the damn tablet. Actually, I think it crashed and took down my account info with it. SMH.

Now to this idiocy...
I'm a jerk huh? Is it because I stole your lunch money? Grow up. You posted a referral link to a different, and arguably competing, website and I called you on it. You obviously knew you were in the wrong because you fixed your mistake.

I didn't insult you, I merely pointed out that it was bad form to post referral links for a different website that at the very least has annoyed quite a few CAGers because of the amount of hoarders and scalpers exploiting this, and other deals.
Get the fuck over yourself, asstackler! You think you're some righteous defender tasked with "calling out" people?! Bub, I pity the small woodland creatures you, well....

You know what a hectic scramble it's been. I've been cycling between multiple open tabs, hammering F5 like a hamster trying to get more crack injected in its brain. I saw a link at SD that led to the HP store that had them in stock and my first instinct was to let my fellow CAGs know ASAFP. I just right-clicked the source link at SD, and pasted it in a hurry here and went to trying to actually buy one. I saw the www.slickdeals... in the URL, but it didn't register as being a problem or anything.

While waiting for the cart to stop crashing and giving errors, I check back and see your puny Defender of CAG post scolding me. I was like, "Huh?", so I went to the targeted tab and copied the URL from there, posted it and then replaced my original link that got your Hanes Her Way undies wedged so far up your pimply arse. Did that shut your noise hole? Noooooooooooooooo!!!!

To recap: I was in a rush; I didn't see that it was a referrer link; you could've pointed it out without being such a jerk about it, but clearly are too immature or poorly-raised to have manners; I fixed it and got on with things; you had to flex and act as macho as you did with that squirrel last night (was chloroform really needed?) because that's what twerps on the Internet do to feel tough. Oooooh, I got called out and schooled by someone with issues! Shake. Tremble in fear. Yawn....

To repeat, get the fuck over yourself. Buh-bye.

As long as you're not hoarding to resell, nobody here really will get on you. I always shop for friends for video games and electronics.

This thread delivers. I can't wait to hear about after everyone gets it and they cry about the app store and how they can't give it away. Continue.

If the orders come through (2 from HP.com and if I get my Staples online order and the adjustment), I'll try to reach out to the CAG community for anyone who needs one. I only need one. I'm not completely sold on the tablet thing but I figured a $150 investment is not bad to see if I can make good use of this instead of my laptop.

I have 2 on order from HP but in case those get cancelled, I'm hawking amazon like crazy just so I definitely have one for myself.

Won't hear me complain one bit. Especially when i am checking my Games FAQ without lugging my laptop over to my game room.

There's thousands of stuff in the app store... Sure, most of it is for the mobile webOS but there's a good amount for the Touchtablet specially too. For $100 though I'm really not going to complain. Plus it's only a matter of time before somebody hacks it for Android or another OS...
very little known cooking technique: iron melted cheese sandwiches. mmmmm.
It was really the only logical step after that commercial where the guy ironed his waffle.

This tablet has one of the best flash compatibility. At $99/$149 even if its just to watch youtube/ surf the internet/ play flash games/ and read kindle books. It is worth it. I personally just got it to check the internet without the need of having my pc on when playing games.

If people more ambitious with their tablet, Android support is on the way and WebOS support is not dead yet. Really at this price 3/4 less than regular price there is hardly any reason to complain.
Sorry just pmed you too, ignore it. Thanks I'll try it! It did seem like the games ran perfectly though so this is a HUGE HUGE HUGE plus!
where did you get the SNES emulator?

So... I have to ask, what do I need to do to watch videos on this. Googling it brings up tons of advertisements for pay conversion software...

Some industrious CAG should write a FAQ for the touchpad. I'd love to know as well. VLC?

I found it supports, but I see MKV and stuff...does that just mean h.264? Because at the file I'm looking at it says both. I'm not up to date on a lot of video stuff, as you can tell.

 • MPEG-4
 • H.263
 • H.264
haha smh all sold out here in San Diego, here on vacation and wanted to buy one at 11 am and they were all sold out :(
Can you guys imagine the rush that will happen as soon as amazon lowers their price?
They already did, and it sold out in a quickness.

All sold out in Watsonville Ca staples. Every employee knew they were selling them for $100 & $150 but had no idea why... I told some of them about HP dropping support but they still didn't understand why they would lower the price...

I've tried like 4 different formats, the only one I've gotten to work (which echoes your post) are .mp4 files.

They look great but none of my digital downloads (from Blu-Ray combo sets) are .mp4 :(

Is there any place that still has this for the sale price? Newegg and Buy are still full price. I really want one at $149 or less. Really want one.
