We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

I've still got "being verified" on my order
I ended up contacting the 'live' sales support on HP
the rep said due to the extremely high sale volume, it is not odd that it could take up to as long as 24hrs to be verified , maybe even longer with weekend
so did we ever get proof that someone bought it on Amazon for $99 or was that BS?
not sure if it was bs or not, but i'm looking at amazon now and from amazon it shows 100/150 price points new, but their sold out, only have it from 3rd party retailers
so did we ever get proof that someone bought it on Amazon for $99 or was that BS?
From watching it persistently. I know it went live for full retail price a few hours ago for both the 16GB and 32GB and lasted around 10 minute then they took it down again. And all the fulfilled by amazon retailers got taken down for the 16GB model. I don't know if many people bough it at retail value for price match or Amazon is simply holding out for a special deal tomorrow. There was a limit of 1 per person when it was full price because I did tried to check the inventory and would only let me attempt to purchase 1.

Been in and out of stock all day on Amazon, at different prices a couple times, too (and no, not 3rd party seller). I'd guess they only updated the price - usually, if something goes OOS on Amazon, it will say "Temporarily Out of Stock" or something similar.

Not being listed at the moment, and no sign of anyone having bought one at the new prices, so probably not. Unlike BB, we don't know whether Amazon will sell them or ship them back to HP.
it's for an sim card on their planned later models, on this model it's just an empty slot for nothing
A lot larger than a slim slot.

I think it is just a physical identification of the S/N, P/N, Mac ID, etc.

Still trying the HP website and now trying to fully checkout. Now registering with the 32gb's. Hopefully this will work and CS was wrong.

oh i see it listed as the List Price being $149 but amazon to my knowledge never sold it as that. It's been out of stock since this morning and my price alert also never went off (although they could have missed it.)
Does anyone know if there is any place that will be clearancing out accessories and cases?
I'd say keep an eye amazon and eBay cause I have a feeling alot of third party sellers are willing to dump their stock and you may find good deals on accessories that are only a few bucks.

It was never sold at the discounted prices...if anyone bought it at the dropped price it was after the fact.

Even on SD it is mentioned along with NewEgg that the drops have yet to go in effect with members only stating the ability to get them price matched.

I'm hoping for a LD tomorrow for a second one.

Waiting for "Review and Submit" to load now. Then hopefully it actually ships. If the Best Buys really shipped their stock back they should have more than enough to fill our orders

Not even listed as being sold by Amazon, so I don't think it's actually sold out. They just updated the price is all, clearly they had inventory earlier.

Called them earlier to no avail.

Emailed them immediately thereafter and just got a response that they're looking into it, and it could be "1-2 business days" before they get back to me.

Take all that for what it's worth...not much.

You know it is a crazy deal when an inherently "non-gamer" deal is allowed to persist for 1280 posts on CAG. Yeah you can play some games on this but this is just a nerdtastic item we can all get behind.

So wait, "Your order is being processed" isn't the first step for HP? Mine started at that but everyone's talking like it's some change that means it's moving towards being shipped.

Policy on price matching:
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: Hi, my name is Cynthia W.. How may I help you?
pixel.gif
Visitor: Hello,
pixel.gif
Visitor: Hewlett Packard has dropped the price of their TouchPads today. Are you guys going to drop the prices as well or offer a price different adjustment if the price does drop in the coming days?
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: We are able to do price matches on items, however if the item is sold out on the competitor site, we are not able to match it, also we are not able to match liquidation prices. At this time, this HP Touchpad is not expected to drop in price, however we may have sales later on this item, and I would recommend checking back.
pixel.gif
Visitor: So, if I can provide proof that a local WalMart or other retailer has them in stock, you will match that price?

pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: As long as it is an online price, we can do a price match. However this is a liquidation price for this item, and we are not able to price match that. I'm very sorry.
pixel.gif
Visitor: Link to local Google Shopping Results
pixel.gif
Visitor: This is not a liquidation by retailers, this price was set forth by HP...
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: Due to the fact that we did not directly purchase our stock from HP and we purchase overstocked items from other companies, the liquidation price does not apply to us at this time. We are looking into if we can offer this price to our customers but as of right now we are not able to and can't guarantee if we will be able to or not.
pixel.gif
Visitor: Is there chance to get on a waiting list or to be notified of a price drop?
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: Unfortunately, we do not have a sign up to be notified about an item price I'm very sorry. I would recommend checking back later though.
pixel.gif
Visitor: If I were to purchase this item today, do you guys offer a price adjustment policy for your own website?
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: If the item drops in price within 10 business days of it's purchase date, we are able to match that lower price. The difference would be credited back to you as in store credit.
pixel.gif
Visitor: That's the only option, why would it not go back on my CC?
pixel.gif
Visitor: doesn't seem like a very good policy?
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: The difference is applied to you the same way it is done if the price match is approved before purchase. All price matches are done as in store credit issued to the account.
pixel.gif
Visitor: I'm still not understanding the "liquidation" reference, you stating such is the first time I've heard it. Other retailers have updated their prices with the new "List Price."
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: HP has decided to discontinue this product, They have created a Fire Sale, which is a liquidation of this product through them and many other retailers.
pixel.gif
Visitor: So you guys are going to sit on them at the retail price and continue to be Overstocked?
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: At this time, we have received any indication to liquidate this item. The price may drop later, but we do not have a timeframe for that to occur.
pixel.gif
Visitor: Awesome
pixel.gif
Cynthia W.: I'm very sorry for the inconvenience that this creates for you. Have I addressed all of your concerns today?

Way to be a dick. It's not like I said "bought 4 at Best Buy, sucks that no one got it" I posted once I got home saying I picked one up just as they got the email, so 15 or so minutes before my post I was in the Best Buy buying one. They had them all on a hand cart with all the accessories and said that I was not allowed to return it or buy a protection plan on it. I tried to buy one for me and one for my father but they said one per customer and employees were also allowed to buy them. It was in Holmdel, NJ. Need anymore info?
Wasn't trying to be 1. Just that there were some misinformation here and I fell for 1 of them. Thought you were 1 of those dicks that get off on seeing other ppl hope dash.

And not a single "MSRP is not a deal" post! ;)

Man, I was filling in my billing info for one earlier and i got a out of memory page and I haven't been able to get back to it since. Such bullshit, wish they would fucking fix the damn website.

Fixing the website just means putting Out of Stock and preventing anyone from entering it to the cart in the first place.

Firemall came back for the 16GB and is fulfilled by Amazon. What is interesting to note is the fact they are Backordered at full price. So people has been buying it without a price drop.

Gonna take a break from this nonsense, it'll probably be easy to get from HP in a few days.

That said, the "Bestsellers in Tablet PCs" link on Amazon has the 16GB as the #1 selling model and the 32GB as #2, of all tablets...which lends some credence to Amazon selling them at the lower price briefly.

I ordered earlier from Amazon at $399 hoping to get credited later. Some people on SD were able to successfully get a rep to credit them.

The rep on live chat would not reduce the price for me citing their "no price match" policy. I will try again later.

They might as well do that with all the crap people have been going through today.

Found a reseller with heart. Just $20 markup on each device. I'm willing to pay $20 so I don't have to run around for multiple days. 32GB has free ship too.

16GB - $119 + calc ship
32GB - $169 + free ship

One for me, one for mama, one for fiancée.

Personally, I'd rather spend the $60, then wait around and poach the HP site, and/or vendors around town.

I could use a portable computer but this is coming at a bad time....add the fact that there just seems to be too much going on here with this sale and it's a pass for me.

Why does something as simple as a sale always turn into this whole in stock/out of stock on sale/not on sale he said/she said mess?

I know in my case, it was a hassle to get the order through on HP's website today. I think people, myself included, are happy to have an order number and the opportunity that our order could go from "processed" to "shipped." :)
why is bb returning them?
because they suck

They apparently bought many of them as in a lot so that was the early speculation from yesterday that they will be available today.
I too thought the same and i was more than ready to wake up, go to BB, walk out with a Tocuhpad and have others mirin me as i played with my pad on the train back home.

but of course, no it did not happen because BB sucks

Pretty sure that it never went lower than $399/$499 on Amazon. I had multiple screens going refreshing every 3/5 seconds, since about 2AM, and Amazon's price stayed consistent the entire time at $399/$499, and occasional was taken down completely, but I never once saw it go to $99/$149.

I also had markers on the price to alert me if it was lowered, and didn't get any alert. I suppose their could've been a minute or two when I didn't glance at it, and it went down to $99/$149, but I doubt it, not the way I was watching it.

He already sold over 1,000 of the 16GB. Either there's no way he had that many or he hoarded a whole state's worth of Touchpads.

Because HP is having a fire....sale.
Discontinued model. Its normally 400 dollars or so now for 99 he'll of a deal. You can't pass anyway. Unless you we're here last night you never had a chance.
UNRELATED:
Also Bestbuy has about 250k of these that are being sent back to hp. im guessing hp will use that for more stock. Landfill is a stupid idea when the item is going to sell within a matter of minutes. Last night HP made atleast 5-10 million in a matter of hours, but there still selling at a loss. Item costs $318 to assemble.

He is a seller who probably had stock
but 1,363 is a lot of stock for a small seller and i never heard of Datavis

Apparently he just increased the price a little for ebay fees

Yeah, this is what I saw too. But there was that one guy saying he got it on amazon for the discounted price. I dont think he ever backed it up though.

I think I may have had success with the HP Small Business store online. It took a while, but I got all the way to the Submit Order page, reloaded a few times after it errored out on me, then got to the Proccessing Page...and it errored again. However, it shows that my credit card was charged for the amount that I submitted so I think I got one for me and my mom. My mom is legally blind so having bigger icons that she can touch will help her out a ton. Great price if all goes well! :)
