Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

so i got order confirmation through hp smb site, but then she tweeted that the site was glitched and it is really out of stock. any news on this?

radioshack has updated their stock of course now that they closed. the 32gb changed from ship to store to in stock for every location for me. im skeptical.
So when are the prices for this in store at Walmart expected to be dropped?
i went earlier today. the lady told me "that shit sold out in 3 minutes after opening. should have woken up" i said thanks whore.

picked up a couple from 2 different bestbuys in store-they were limiting them to one per person. Already have an ipad, got one for my daughter. Its pretty decent for a 100 bucks. There arent very many apps, but strictly as a web browser and MP3/video player/kindle it is easily worth 100 bucks. Plus it has angry birds for free, which is her favorite ipad game. Hopefully this purchase will keep her little hands off my ipad and extend its life.

I actually just bought her a leapfrog leappad, which just came out, after the price drop, this ended up being the same price. I am thinking about returning the leappad, but probably isnt worth upsetting her by taking it away.
No, because my local Walmart had one 16gb and several 32gb, but it rang up to 399
You either live in Alaska or the less important middle of the country ;)

can i buy one from you? i'd give you $125

just got off the phone with the HP rep, apparently as well as the guy who got the response from amazon
about some more being offered through their website. HP will also be releasing a few more at the 99.99/149.99 price sometime in the coming week, so if your order is one of the ones that was "cancelled" then fear not.
As a note though on the "cancelled" order thing. I didn't get a confirmation but the lady assured me that if the order was processed and you got the confirmation on the browser when you placed the order ( not the e-mail one) then you should be ok.

Walmart price changes are done on a store by store basis, not with a flip of the switch at corporate. On top of that they are done individually by department one at a time. So basically you have a store that the electronics department manager didn't do the change. Your best bet would have been to get a manager involved and have them do the change in the system.

You forgot it can be overclocked to 1.7ghz stable and that android is going to be ported over to it.

also be wary with certain stores
there are different models, I believe the ones that are 99/149 are the 3500 series models because when I tried to get one that was the 4500 series, those are still 499/599 or whatever their original prices are
not sure if its a bait n switch that sears(company that told me this) is doing or whatever the case
im going off what the employee told me, but just a heads up to save some people a headache if you are one of the unfortunate few

anyone try tigerdirect? I just went to their page and it's full msrp glory all over with lots of nice graphics. I tried live chat, but they stop at 12 am EST, which was about a half hour earlier than I visited them. But that could be a location to get it soon as well.

TigerDirect HP TouchPad

the tigerdirect one is one of the same ones i saw on sears, and when i spoke to the rep he told me that it was the "newer" model and the FB3595UA or whatever is the one that was 99.99...
if anyone can confirm that they will price match this to 99.99, it would help a lot of people grab some if they missed their chance
Could anyone help me add videos to it? I can't figure out how to do it.
What kind of videos? If they are digital copies in iTunes, those are DRM protected. Can't talk about how to work around that here, you'll have to google it.
You forgot it can be overclocked to 1.7ghz stable and that android is going to be ported over to it.
Ya, hopefully it improves in the future...but, my point was more that even if it doesn't it is still easily worth a 100 bucks as is.

you just plug the usb cord into the computer, click usb mode on the touchpad's screen and it should show up like a thumbdrive on your computer. Then you just drag your movies into any folder, i just made a new one called movies.

Make sure there just pending charges. If you still see them on Wednesday contact your bank and HP.

Some of those are pre authorizations so nothing to worry about they'll be gone within a day or two. *business days.
maybe its 4 and the 1 dollar charges are to check?
How many did you buy? 2?

I know Amazon sometimes charges me, but I still have a "pending" transaction, so it looks like it's going to charge me twice. But it never does. You can call HP and see, or if they do accidentally charge you call your credit card company when the charge goes through.

Ordered the 32GB from Kmart for $499 with hopes that it'll drop within 7 days (for a price adjustment). If not, I guess I'll just return it in-store and be out $7 shipping.

Interesting that amazon is no longer officially giving price matches but instead they are allowing returns of the touchpads back to june.

Amazon.com is extending the return/exchange policy for the HP TouchPad and accepting returns for units purchased on or after June 19, 2011. Please contact customer service for more details.

These things are first generation. What you mean by newer models? The HP TouchPad was launched on July 1, 2011, in the United States, and July 15 in Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany. On August 18, 2011, less than 8 weeks after they were launched in the US, Hewlett-Packard announced that it will discontinue all webOS products. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_TouchPad There haven't been enough time frame to have different models.
I did that, and he said he received nothing about a price drop.
Just about everyone at a retail store will lie to you so they don't have to do any actual "work". 99% of the time when someone "checks the back" for something they just stand there for a few minutes then come back and tell you they don't have it. The price changes at Walmart are done on their handheld scanners, but I'm sure that guy would have made up some lie about it even if he had the scanner in hand and you asked him to check/prove it.

I tried to buy 2 of the 16gb model. one for me and one for the wife. Each of the orders was that $251.22. I was a little worried because I thought those $1 transactions might turn into more of the $251's.

So I ended up with 0, 2, or 4 maybe?

This whole situation is nuts.

Guys, HP small business has been sold out of both units since 5pm central. They had a glitch that showed both 16 and 32 in stock. Here is where you can sign up to be notified when more are in stock. They will be getting more according to the HP guy's twitter.

Also there is a special new post from Best Buy about the unit and their special pricing and return policy regarding it.

Tell me about it, I have to wake up by at least 8 or 9 am tommorow to try and call HP again to have them change my order to one instead of two. They were closed by the time I was able to speak with someone (customer service tried to transfer me to Small Business). That or I will have to call Amex tommorow and tell em to stop payment/cancel.

Finally after over 10 hours I got an order to go through on the HP Website for the 16gb. Here's hoping it goes through since my nephew wanted one.

The fact that they're back up might mean they are going to sell their remaining online stock.

Funny. I clicked add to cart and it bought me to a page for me to enter my zip. Did so, and it said "items below are no longer available" and shows full MSRP. When I click for for it to display more info, it just said the item "it's not available for purchase at this time."

I bet these guys are secretly laughing at our misery.

The best you can do is just try different people around the store carrying one of those handhelds and see if they can check the electronics price changes for it. Eventually you may someone friendly enough to help you out. Next step after that is contact the DM to complain, but by the time they respond the price change will be done and they will be OOS and you're still without one no matter how the much the DM wants to help. You can also call 1-800-walmart about the specific store and problem and they will send word down to resolve it.
