Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

It sold out in about 3 seconds on Amazon. Luckily I have an order BB. I was trying to get one for a relative at Amazon and by the time I clicked the waitlist button it was long gone.
if you scroll further down, you might see the lightning deal discount.
That's what I tried at first. Then I got this "You time for this deal expired," somehow popped on the page that said $399 and hit "Buy with One click." Boom. Order placed, but shows it's for $399, not $99. It's definitely shipped and sold through Amazon too. I'm going to see if I can't grab another one for myself since this one will be for my mom. Thanks!

I know the HP Twitter guy said the SMB's "in stock" was a mistake, but they're STILL listing the 32 GB on the SMB section and they've removed the 16 GB entirely.
hope so too, while i was in line, the manager was talking about people who are having their online orders cancelled, not sure if that was for in-store pick up or not
this is in ft. lauderdale though, best of luck

Yikes! :argue: This isn't the apocalypse.

I'm trying to figure out how to cancel my HP order now. I don't have the order number and they never emailed me a confirmation. I can't find a place to log into "my account" or anything on their website.
How did people find the lightning deal if it wasn't scheduled and on the lightning deals page?
Constant F5ing of the product listing would be my best guess.

HP might have done a monster move here; instead of having little market share, they'll now have a massive gain of it. That's the big foothold that everybody needs...
How did people find the lightning deal if it wasn't scheduled and on the lightning deals page?
It was on the lightning deals page, they took it off after it sold out.
How did people find the lightning deal if it wasn't scheduled and on the lightning deals page?
It actually showed on the product page itself when I tried to get in on it. Unfortunately I was about a second too late and was in 6th in line on the waitlist.
How did people find the lightning deal if it wasn't scheduled and on the lightning deals page?
It was up for a few minutes then Amazon yanked it down after the waiting list went past 500+ or so. I got on the waiting list but god knows what number I am... if they are still keeping the list at all.

I'm thinking it's over altogether. I got a message saying that my time had ran out or something like that, which sucks since I was #6 in line.

Just got home from BB with my 32GB :whee:

I had an In Store Pick-Up order that I placed around 7 am this morning. I arrived at about 10:55 for the 11 o'clock store opening. There were about 30 people in line. I didn't see anyone walk up to the registers with a touchpad in the 10 minutes it took me to go to the store pick up line. There was one guy in front of me who was trying to pick up a 16GB but they didn't have one for him... I shuffled past him and handed my print-out over and then was handed my spanking new 32GB touchpad. He didn't look too happy, but I was thrilled. I walked out the door smiling. I never get in on these kind of deals so I was definitely excited to get this. Good luck to all those still looking for one. Mine is charging now.

Oh this was the Christiana DE store, not that anyone cares about DE anyway :whistle2:|

Small crowd outside my bb this morning.

One of the employees was outside talking to them. One customer says "So what your saying is all the employees got them?" Thats Right!
Yeah that bullshit happen to me sadly. I was second in line waiting for the door to open when a person wearing a gray best buy shirt walked out grinning with a HP touchpad in his bag.

So why would they just make it a lightning deal instead of just making all of their stock $99?

edit: Spoke too soon, looks like they're OOS on the 16gb altogether.
sucks worse for the guy who was #1, or 2
Yeah, although there is a slight chance they actually got one :)

Them's riotin' words! :bouncy:
So why would they just make it a lightning deal instead of just making all of their stock $99?
So they can control the flow a lot better and constantly release it throughout the day is my best guess.
I'm trying to figure out how to cancel my HP order now. I don't have the order number and they never emailed me a confirmation. I can't find a place to log into "my account" or anything on their website.
Its there, just hard to find. When you're at the page that wants your "order numbers" and crap on the left side there's an option for Order and Quote History... that lets you log in and view all orders placed and finalized under that account.

Just got off the phone with my local best buy. Said they have been having issues with the web site for people who ordered online to pick up in store. She did tell me that mine were there and to just wait until I get the email sometime today.
How did people find the lightning deal if it wasn't scheduled and on the lightning deals page?
If you haven't figured it out yet, When your on the "Today's Deal" page you will see something saying "All Deals" towards the top.

If Amazon is going to do Lightning Deals for the rest of their stock, I think their site is going to get a bit hammered today with the rest of the planet doing refreshes to see when it comes back into stock.

My cc just got billed from HP no confirmation email yet. Was billed when I placed the order Friday night, then reversed. Finally billed again this morning. Here is hoping!

It says Sold out. Damn, when did they post it at $99. I missed it.

I've been debating if I should look for this thing since I heard about it yesterday; and I just don't know what I would use it for. I have a laptop, a smartphone, and an iPod touch, and I use all of them regularly. Part of me doesn't want to pass up on this offer but the logical part of me does. My final thought is if you're in the market for something like this then go for it, but if not idk what the point is.

If there's one site that can handle the traffic, it's Amazon. Hell even Anonymous couldn't make a dent with their DoS attacks to Amazon.

Spoke with an Amazon CSR about my order and got it price adjusted! Woo hoo! Now all I need is another one for myself since that one is for my legally blind mom. Yes, all you flippers should feel bad since I was actually trying to get it for someone who needs it.

Going into chat to try and get the price adjustment on the 16gb I ordered from Amazon. Didn't see the lightning deal on the page when I ordered. Glad others got in on the lighting deal, though. Better not run into a dickhead customer service rep.

Picked up my 32gb from Best Buy. I was waffling a little bit on whether to get it after I got the ticket because of the rumors of the HP re-stock but I ended up figuring having a guaranteed 32 is better than taking a chance at a 16gb.

I got there around 9:15, they passed out tickets at 9:30 (ran out of 32gbs about 5-6 people behind me), and by about 9:45 the line had ballooned to (no exaggeration) at least 100+ people. This was in Des Moines, IA not a major market like LA or New York. That was when I figured the extra $50 for the 32gb is worth it because demand for this thing is DRAMATICALLY higher than any possible extra inventory HP has for this thing and with them losing around $200 per unit in materials alone its not like they're gonna suddenly put it back into production.

I'm really thinking HP is regretting not pricing these a little bit higher. There's an absolutely rabid demand for this thing right now and they probably could have gotten at least an extra $50 for it with it still selling through. Oh well, HP's loss is our gain...

When did you order? I ordered mine early this morning but haven't received any email yet... hoping they don't cancel my order

I was there when they opened (I ordered one from BB.com this morning but was looking for accessories, none there apparently) and they were sold out...I guess they had enough for instore pickups.

Office Max stores in the Raleigh/Cary area may show Limited Stock on that tracker posted a few pages ago, but it seems to be incorrect info (at least in the one store-Cary Crossroads- my wife went into to inquire about the HPs-all she got was a weary-"No, we don't carry the touchpads. This is about the hundreth time I've had to tell someone this morning"-poor guy!) So, YMMV-I would say call first, but that would just add to the employees' miseries...
