Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Yeah I agree I didn't mean to imply that they are fraudulent I merely meant if anyone did somehow hack their seller account, that is all they would get and plus Amazon would shut them down. Thanks for the info.:D

That model is usually for HP employee's only. It was a different model number specifically for their pricing, but now these are getting mixed in at stores since HP employees dont get no lower pricing. HTH
Yea something seems fishy with the Onsale Touchpads. Why do they say "Smart Buy" in the title? When I Google it, it comes up with sites like CDW and MacMall. I went ahead and cancelled my order. I'm going to hope my HP order goes though.
Newegg had two versions on there website, one was the regular and the other had the 'Smart Buy' listed in the description of course the one sold out now the one that had the "smart buy" the other is still reg price

and a cool bit of info I found while looking at the documentation online, seems you can tranfer stuff between your PC and Tablet (copied directly from the HP site)

"You can copy files from a computer to your HP webOS device, and from your device to your computer, by putting your device in USB drive mode.

When your device is in USB drive mode, you can’t make or receive calls or use other wireless features such as email or the web.

After you copy a file to your device, you can open the file if your device has an application that supports the file type "

One of the suys on the amazon review said same thing alternate model number.

Maybe surplus from the business side I think the hesitation is keeping it up. Or somebody is asleep on sunday
Yes. What the hell does Admin mean?
Oh I wondered the same thing... its weird but it gives me a pop up saying "Admin/Processing". I will also take a SS if I must, but that's not exactly the point...

I just cut out the middle man and here.

After 36 hours of searching and frustration...suddenly Onsale seems to have an endless supply of these...please do not cancel my order.

I'm curious to see how long it takes for a successful port of Android. I know all the Android phones that come out get root in no time, and the Nook Color was cracked wide open quickly, but what has the time frame been in the past for porting the OS to a device that it isn't originally on?

Also, I know some apps prefer to use removable storage and have issues using just the internal storage on the device, so I wonder if that will present problems for the Touchpad since it has no micro sd slot.

fucking BestBuy. I ordered for in-store pickup at full price last night. This morning they wouldn't honor it and I didn't manage to get in line in time to get one, which is fine. What is not fine is that they are still holding on to my fucking $500! Mother fuckers...

So someone may need to help me understand "the greatness" of these tablets, honest to god no sarcasm. Curious if I should hop on as well. Gizmodo called these "glorified digital picture frames" They carry no warranty, and is the software being supported or updated? What is the best usage for these aside from browsing the web? Is it open source like alot of android? Can you get emulators for it? Can you do any real gaming or portable gaming like an iPad?

Thanks for the help/answers in advance.
Need I say more?
Thanks for posting that. I actually have the same "Admin" status on my HP order too. I think it just means it's processing.

I still decided to cancel my order from Onsale. It seems legit after reading the comments on here, but I already have 2 on order with HP and 1 with Amazon from this morning. That covers my entire family so I'm all set...as long as HP's order goes through of course lol. Thanks!
4th time ive personally said this.
ANDROID IS BEING PORTED OVER TO THE TOUCHPAD.
At this point, it might behoove you to just let people believe that it's a dead platform so there's less competition for CAGS who actually want one.

If people wanna hate on it, go ahead.

There is a SNES emulator on it.
You meant Angry Bird for gaming?

Ok they have a 1 year warranty so your source is already on shaky ground. As far as Gizmodo it just sounds like someone with an axe to grind.

I liked my 32GB I bought from BB yesterday so much, I bought a 16GB for my wife from the Amazon Onsale link. Woot!

Who needs stupid iPads?

Has anyone who ordered from OnSale via Amazon NOT had their order status changed to "shipping soon"?

I'm trying to figure out if that's a good sign or if it's just automated.

A lot of this from where I am standing is value vs other tablets. Many people were buying Nookcolors and they were for a LONG TIME the poor mans tablet. Those were 250 and rather small. Now we have a basic device which does the key function for most people IE Surf the web. Now there are some small uses!

Email
Web
Some games like angry birds
Kindle

So when you think of getting a GOOD quality tablet with Kindle and web for 100... well how can you say no when the closest thing is the Nookcolor for over twice that? lol

Does anyone know if you can download the same non-free app to multiple Touchpads? Do you need to put the same account on both? Is that even possible?
Amazon still selling
Ordered a 16GB an hour ago, and they still have some. Some people are starting to think its a little fishy. I hope not.

This onsale not going out of stock doesn't look good. With some jerks buying 7 plus of these how could these still be in stock. Lets hope there really is this many or they only honor one per customer.
I do have some regrets maybe about going with the 32GB version for $50 more (50% increase) but I have 8 GB of music that I would put on this thing so I would rather just have the space than wish later on I spent the $50.
Kind of in the same boat. Even with streaming media to my device, I still see myself dumping a lot of music and videos on there for when I can't get online, so though I hate paying the extra amount ($100 is just such a nice, low, round number), I figure it's worth having the breathing room.
Amazon still selling
LOL at the customer uploaded images. They're not even funny, just....odd. Some dude with a popped collar in an unfinished apartment with empty water bottle on the ground? wtf?

I looked at the Gizmodo review and it just seem picky to me. Is the ipad form factor better? Yes but they also have be working on their tablet a lot longer. 1.6 vs 1.33 pounds...ok if you really find that a huge difference then do not buy it. It is a little thicker but no more than other non-Ipad tablets. I can say this with utmost assurance...you won't be browsing any FLASH sites with an iPad. There are also going to be ways to improve performance. Everyone should read this article.

they carry a 1 year warranty via: HP. you can also buy one via: squaretrade if you feel so inclined.

Think of these as ipads, but you can buy four of them for the price of an ipad, and their better.
Can't believe onSale still has some in stock.

Hate to be a pessimist but this can't be a good sign.
Well I think experience here has taught us one thing that we can use to predict the outcome of this event from onsale which is:
over the weekend sales + high volume of orders + not live inventory = some orders going through and a lot of cancellations.

There is hope however slim the chances are but we don't know what the initial quantity they started with or how many are actually selling because Amazon doesn't allow you to add more than 999 at a time to cart, are the sales in the tens of thousands or hundreds? More than likely though they weren't sitting on a whole warehouse full so I'd be inclined to believe some will ship out Monday the rest will be cancelled. Best of luck to all, and it will be first come first serve so if it keeps "restocking" the earlier you get/got an order in the more likely you are to get it.

first picture is taken with the camera on the touch pad.
cant explain the rest maybe same deal who knows.

I also snagged a 16gb from onsale and got a shipping soon confirmation almost immediately. Thank you op for the onsale link and I hope it goes through as well. I really want to somehow use this as a trigger for my DJ setup but it looks like there are no apps for that. I hope android gets ported so we can blow this thing up!
