Since everyone is asking for people to get them one when they can't find one on their own, let's try to keep the requests to this thread here:

Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Kmart too! Think I'll pick one up today.
The HP Touchpad has caused the the Internet to commit suicide.
More like Human civilization (at BestBuy's, at least) and on HP's Small Business Store site.

The suspense is killing me. I wish onSale would just either put me out of my misery and cancel my order or send me a shipping confirmation. This is totally occupying my time way too much, and seriously affecting my workday!
Are there any 3rd party WebOS devices? I'm just wondering how much truth there is in HPs claim to continue supporting the platform.
I don't think so but I think they want to licence it now. I don't know who would want to do that since there are so many OSs that may not be as good but already have substantial market share and acceptable app stores. webOS probably has the least populated app store.

lol, I'm going to use mine as an alarm clock!
You laugh, but that's one of the reasons I picked one up - I had been mulling over a $70 Sony Dash, as my local Sam's Club had them on clearance. Figured I could replace my alarm clock and bring networked music into my bedroom with it. When the Touchpad dropped, it seemed like a much better option, and had many other uses.

So I will actually be using it for a clock and weather in my room. Plus...it doesn't get screwed up when the power goes out like my (comparatively ancient) alarm clock does.

"Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Pamela'
Robert (me): Do you accept PayPal?
Pamela: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Pamela: Have you tried to enter that information in payment information?
Robert: I haven't placed an order yet. I'm just looking at an item I saw on a website and if you accept PayPal I'm going to buy it.
Robert: Doesn't look like an option, though.
Pamela: Is PayPal like a card you have?"
I just talked to THE MOST CLUELESS CSR REP EVER. Let me post the transcript in a second.
It's been over a second...hurry! I want to

When I was at one client I had to be up extra early on certain days (4AM) and finding an alarm clock could handle different wake-ups on different days was hard. Eventually paid almost $100 for a clock that would do just that.
Thanks....what is the resolution we should be converting to? Will handbrake maintain aspect ratio? For example, if I have a 16:9 video, will it maintain the 4:3 that the Touchpad is (well, not really 4:3, but close)

I was able to order one on BESTBUY.com for IN STORE Pickup when they were $399. I picked it up in-store, and I have to deal with BestBuy online to get a price adjustment. Should be fine though.

I like the tablet thus far....I just need to learn all the tricks/tips, maybe find a case like the Ipad2...suggestions?

I haven't messed with it too much, takes forever on my computer. I just switch it over to the iPad Preset and don't touch anything else... So far what I've converted looks to have maintained the aspect ratio and if it's off it's only off a tiny bit.

I'm sure there's better tutorials around and will be more soon with the Touchpad sale. If you see any good tutorials let me know!

And as for the cases, just all of them are overpriced, the ones made for the Touchpad as well as the iPad ones. Obviously it's easier just to get an iPad2 one since they're almost the exact same size, although I haven't seen a specific instance where somebody posted if they've tried an iPad2 case and had it fit (should).

I've used AVS Video Converter in the past to convert to my Android phone. However, the presets in that program do not have anything for Tablets (although, I have an older version). I've used Handbrake in the past, but not too often. I remember it taking FOREVER also.
Handbrake is, hands-down, the best conversion software I've used to date. I used to use VisualHub on Mac before the developers stopped supporting it.

Select the iPad preset, then, if you don't care too much about pristine video quality, change the video codec from H.264 (x264 - slower, better quality) to MPEG-4 (FFmpeg - faster, gooder quality). No need to change anything else and it'll still look great on a tablet. It takes me roughly 10-15 minutes to convert a 2-hour, 800 MB film. Conversion time largely depends on quality, texture, and format of the source file. Films with a lot of grainy video or visual noise take longer and yield larger files, etc.

Whatever aspect ratio the source file is will roughly be the same after the conversion. You can crop or adjust the aspect ratio manually, but I wouldn't recommend it. The real pain is with extreme letterbox and old-school 4:3 ratios.

error lame damn it i cannot buy a break just want one thats all trying since friday for one tablet chase blocked me yesterday fraud protection had one at bestbuy

Haha. On PcConnection I tried to call them to place the order and all circuits are busy. They are already sold out of whatever they had in stock I bet. Just got to wait for OnSale with amazon unfortunately.
I ordered one through B&N this morning around 7am CST. Order went through, and my credit card was charged. based on what I have read, my order is going to be cancelled though.
I ordered at the same time and I'm assuming the same. Oh well...the wife will be happy I didn't drop another $100 on a toy I'll play with for a week and completely forget about. Ha.

Same thing is happening for one of my family members, and I couldn't even order the 16gig for one of them because PCC removed it off the site.
Zones.com is up again!
Not quite!

PC Connection is still super slow and keeps giving me an error when I try and give them money. Oh well.

Someone on SD reported that PC Connection is notorious for charging people and not shipping anything.

Out of curiosity... Has anybody else tried A Link to the Past on the SNES emu? All my other games play fine, but when I leave the house in ALttP at the very beginning and go outside there is no ground. The npcs are there, the trees are there, but that's it. Maybe I need another version of the rom?...
