Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
did anyone who bought on ebay from datavis_sales ship yet? i know i got a confirmation email yesterday, but still hasn't shipped yet...i was in the 500-order range
few pages back someone said that datavis stuff would all be shipping towards the end of the week
so i ordered 2 through onsale yesterday and 2 through hp smb, here's hoping all 3 don't get canceled...
2 + 2 = 3?
Sell those TouchPads and buy an iPad:

Other than potential resale value, these HP TouchPads seem pretty pointless.
Most of those concerns were addressed in the patch 2 weeks ago.
And everyone here would buy an ipad 2 if it was 99 dolars 99 dollars is the magic price point for almost any high end electronics
I wouldn't.
I've turned down a free iphone consistently for 2.5 years from my employer.
You have to have standards.
I had a launch Pre and there's a reason I passed on getting the TouchPad. Cheap hardware, crappy OS. If Android ever appears on it, AND BECOMES STABLE, I might care, but by then, there'll be a real solution that won't require SofKeys always running.
That said, at $100, it'd be a fun toy to mess around with, but until Android is ready, be prepared for a lot of boring times.
I still have my launch Pre. It's growing long in the tooth, I admit. But have you ever actually tried to use Android after an overclocked and patched webOS device? It's like climbing out of bed with Milla Jovovich and into another bed with Hillary Clinton.
I'd rather buy off from CAGs than these ridiculously sketchy, low reviewed websites that are popping up.
stick around and you may purchase one at cost price :)
Oh I agree. I just don't think those companies you're thinking of will do anything.

I have no idea how Onsale could've fucked up their inventory on amazon. Unless they have their own site(s) and decided to fulfill the orders they took on their site before they fulfilled amazon orders.
I hope they'll like Amazon kicking them to the curb or making them pay for their mistakes.

How can you get your inventory so far out of whack that you take 10-100x the orders for the inventory you have available? That's beyond ridiculous, especially for Amazon fronting for them.
no cancellation from B&N YET...., hopefully what that guy said about if youve ordered before you get priority because I have ordered from them a few times before
same here, no cancellation, but i only ordered from them like once before.

Interesting:

The fact of the matter is that Palm needed a lot of development time to turn webOS into a mature product. The HP of today is trying to turn itself into a fully focused enterprise company and as a result, webOS wasn't going to get the support it needed. An internal source at HP told me that the sales targets for the TouchPad were between the best selling Honeycomb tablets and the iPad. When that didn't happen, HP saw no reason to continue down the webOS hardware path.

As an enterprise company the move makes sense for HP and its shareholders. As consumers, we're disappointed. But the blame doesn't fall on Qualcomm or any chip vendor in the TouchPad, just on HP itself. The TouchPad needed more work, and webOS as a whole needs more work. You can either scale a project out by taking more time to get it done, or you can scale its width by committing more resources to it. The latter (and more efficient development) is what Palm has needed since day one, what HP promised to bring to it, and sadly exactly what it ultimately failed to receive at HP.

I said earlier that HP might have leaked the whole "WebOS runs faster on an ipad" to get someone to bite on the OS. This article seems to indicate that the hardware is good and that perhaps a good OS unlocks the potential. Hopefully I'll have Android on mine by xmas.

Just got off the phone with bestbuy.com customer service. I ordered 2 touchpads at 7:15 am EST on Sunday, one 16 gig and one 32 gig. The 32 gig has shipped, but they are having trouble with filling the 16 gig. I ordered one from Barnes & Noble this morning because the BB order didn't look good. If they all come in, I'll put something on here to sell atleast 1 (at cost)
stick around and you may purchase one at cost price :)
at $499, or $99?!
I think I got one from Zones and Tigerdirect. I'd like one for myself now.
From what I've seen by the likes of datavis on ebay selling for a modest $125, I'd rather risk that than buying it for $150 from some of these websites popping up, that when traced turn out to be a pizzahut, or some dudes house in Fresno >_<

is datavis_sales still around, btw?

I don't think any CAGs should purchase from any of these sketchy websites. Just wait it out. Hopefully HP will have more up soon and/or some CAGs will have extras after the bad checkout process and will sell them on CAG.

I've never used or heard of that neobit site, hence I said if you're desperate.

At this point I'm only going to order from NewEgg, HP, or a CAG on here.

SD was just thumbing down a thread that was posted saying Neobites had stock and they were also cursing and getting mad at the site
lol
if this means aanything, stay away

Barnes and noble just canceled on me.

I have an existing account that has been active for several months and I only ordered one. So that crap about them doing existing accounts before brand new accounts seems bogus.

I also ordered at 700 AM MST

Just saying.

fuck BN, I just got an email canceling all 3 of my orders with them, the first of which I placed at 9:30 PM PST. I am pretty sure I was one of the earlier ones to order from them, and I get canceled? And it has nothing to do with having ordered from them before because I am a BN Member and have ordered many thing from them. I am not happy

Quick search found some reviews of sketchy service from neobits; canceling orders, but offering to sell the item at a higher price afterwards, claiming to be an authorized reseller of brands they are not authorized, selling items they don't have in stock... definitely a site I'd stay away from.

Also hoping for one of our CAG 'overstocks' if I don't find a reputable dealer to buy from. ;)
B&N canceled. Fingers cross for onSale now. I got in on that before they went out of stock the first time, so will be a little peeved if that doesn't pan out.
Same

You ordered way too late. I'm guessing you would need to have ordered within the first hour or two to get one from B&N.

No cancellation email for me yet, ordered within 10 minutes of the drop. I checked out as a "Guest" if that means anything.
You ordered way too late. I'm guessing you would need to have ordered within the first hour or two to get one from B&N.
Ordered at 12:23 AM CDT and was canceled.. someone else mentioned they ordered about an hour before me and was canceled. Seems like they vastly oversold what they had.

Way way earlier than that. I got in at 9:30 PM PST and for canceled. I am thinking no one is going to get one.

Heh.

I got all excited because I got a shipment confirmation email from Amazon, only to open the email and see that they were confirming my shipment of SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked.

Has anyone ordered from bn and gotten a confirm email? I still havent gotten a cancel email or anything
Just speak to a OD rep on CHAT..if you got "3 day pending" meant THEY DONT GOT IT IN STOCK AND WILL SHIP WHEN IT IS!!!
I just got off the live chat myself, and was told that "3 day delivery pending", means it shipped. I have a delivery date of 8/24, dude said tracking takes about a day to update on the site...heres hoping
