Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
In regards to the touchstone; it still needs to be plugged into the wall to power the touchpad. Can't you just plug in your ac power adapter that comes with the touchpad, and stand it up using the HP case? Wouldnt it be acting exactly like a touchstone?

I'm confused. I need to be talked into why I should buy this.
I you can just set the tablet on the stand in either landscape or portrait mode and it charges it wirelessly. The touchstone does have to be plugged in, but once its setup it now becomes a process in which you just sit the tablet on the charger. Not really necessary but cool if you hate plugging things in. Its meant to be act as a stationery charging station, not something that you would move from room to room.
Ugh, dunno why people are calling this a glitch. It's a FEATURE of fedex.com. For goodness sake, the page is labeled: Track by Reference. HP puts your order number in the reference section for this reason.
Glad someone else mentioned that, as I was about it.

The link for that is also now in the OP.

To anyone else who ordered from HP:

They finally gave me a tracking number, but when I clicked the number it was for some item that shipped back in Sept 2010 to Illinois...(I'm in CT.)

Anyone else get this?

So I took no part of this but my brother did. He ordered from HP home...nothing yet.

So I said do in-store pick up at best buy..."Out of stock"

So he orders from Onsale via amazon...

Onsale shipped his order yesterday..
At the same time called best buy and they were converting the order to free shipping and it's shipped as of today.

So he wanted 1 TP and now he may have 3.

It's an artificial demand. The supply is definitely out there.
Hmm, it's rather sexy. But where is the charging port at on the touchpad, anyway? I'm thinking, maybe it's not possible to charge it and stand it up in the HP case at the same time? Maybe the cord will have to bend against the bottom of your desk, causing it to not sit stable? No idea, since Ive never seen the charging slot or any of it in action >_

While its a neat feature. I would be one of those people that get annoyed that the screen is on when I need it to be charging faster. Also, I don't use any of those features. I'm a very unorganized person haha. Sure there could be a few apps to make it look cooler. But its like a computer screen saver... why waste those CPU cycles lol

That guy's eyes look like they are frozen in time or something...

Check on it tomorrow and I bet it'll work OK.

so is it me or are they shipping orders separately from hp and hp office? i received a package today and it was just a ream of paper :(

Still no OnSale cancellation for me, but at this point I hope it comes soon so I can try ordering from somewhere else. Did you guys order 16GB or 32GB?

Greedy mf'ers at work. I told a group about local BB having 80 in stock today at some point. I was in a required team lunch and they all got 2 each. Did they offer me one? Nope, to ebay they go.

Ty to all the people that suggested 888-BEST-BUY. Here are my first 5 attempts to get useful information from this helpline.

I always selected #4 which takes you to "someone who can assist you". Here is the jist of what I asked. "Hello, I'm looking to purchase an item in person at a BB in my area, could you please help me figure out which stores have inventory or when a shipment of this item would arrive?"

1st try.) Representative asked what product I was looking for. Told them the SKU#, they said, "could you tell me the name of the item" I said HP touchpad. They transferred me to the HP helpline. Instead I was sent to a store locator that was 100% prerecorded and only told me the phone numbers.
2nd try.) Same thing
3rd try.) This time I mentioned that the HP helpline was nothing more then a pre-recorded store locator and instead of transferring me there could you please transfer to a live person that could check the inventory for me?......"Sure, she said....." Transferred to the Store Locator...... :(
4th try.) OMG something new, the sales rep I was transferred to asked me for the SKU# (this is looking good!), She then asked me to hold while she looked at the inventory. She told me no stores had any instock and before I could ask a followup question she read word for word the post that is on the BB forums

"At this time all remaining TouchPad inventory is on its way to our stores and will be arriving throughout the week. Best Buy will no longer be selling the Touchpad on BestBuy.com, or any other Best Buy channel other than our stores. We cannot share specifics on the timing or quantity of these shipments. As soon as a store receives shipment, it will be merchandised on the sales floor and will be processed on a first come first serve basis."

5th try.) Same as 4th.

Each time I spoke to a different person in every department. I am going to continue trying this until one of the sales reps spills the beans on what Fed Ex / UPS shipments are incoming to stores in my area. I asked that very question to the 2 sales reps and they told me they are not allowed to tell me.

How are you guys getting them to crack?

Awesome, thanks. 2 Touchstone chargers, 2 Folio Cases, and 1 Keyboard inbound. And now I can fully stop searching and keeping tabs on this mess.
Ditto. Quest is complete.

I was looking at my FedEx tracking page from today and noticed the weight was 5.7lbs. After reading david12795 got just the paper by itself today, a paranoid part of me is thinking I'm just going to get the printer paper by itself. :whistle2:/

Yea, if you order accessories from BB and only want 2, you can order a rocketfish "case" for the nook for like $2 a piece and save some money that way (assuming you do in store pickup).
That sucks, did you just get that email? And what time did you order?
Just got it 5-10 min ago. I ordered it almost right away i think. Looks like 5:52 pm Central I ordered.

For those posting that their order from onSale has been cancelled. Would you mind letting us know what day/time you ordered it, and which size you ordered? Also, what shipping method did you use?! Thanks.

Well, I'm going to have to leave my computer in about 20 minutes for about the next 5 hours, so I hope they either put them up for sale right now, or don't start selling them again until I get back. If they sell them and sell out of them before I get back, then I'll hate you all forever for getting in on it when I can't!

I think it was mentioned somewhere that onSale had more 16gigs over the 32gigs. Probably why everyone who ordered a 32gig is getting cancellations. My lil bro had an order for one 32gig that just got canceled. I ordered a 16gig about 5 or 10 mins before him, I have yet to get a cancellation email.
That's been proven false. It's factually impossible when every single hardware spec in the touchpad is better than the ipad 2.

What is thought to have really happened is that somehow Enyo was made to run inside iOS to some degree to benchmark it's webkit performance.
"What is thought" isn't conclusive. I admit that the claim the article makes is convoluted and also inconclusive, but one has to consider the ramifications of a competing webkit running faster INSIDE of another OS, on different hardware (this suggests virtualization). This is akin to the fact that Windows 7 runs better and faster on a MacBook Pro than it does on a laptop with "better" hardware, and this is not just my personal experience.

As far as hardware, are you basing your claim merely on numbers? Or do you have viable benchmarks. I have used both and can say that the HP is slower, more cumbersome, and holds far less battery charge than my iPad 1! It is also heavier and thicker than the iPad 2. Going much further into it will surely bring more personal bias into the mix as supposed to objective argument.

The main point of fact is that the Touchpad is on it's deathbed, and although HP may have done a relatively good job of one-upping the iPad AFTER THE FACT (in a niche sort of way), there's no future for the Touchpad.

People should stop attempting to justify their buy by convincing themselves that the Touchpad is the better option. As someone else pointed out, "IT'S CHEAP", and that's all there is to it.
