Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Anyone else get a cancellation notice from HP SoMB division concerning their order being cancelled?

Got mine last night and its a massive bummer. Now I gotta try and grab one from a retail store or elsewhere online. Gonna have to do the rounds tonight when I get out of work. fuck :|
How are you guys getting them to crack?
Small talk.

Seriously, it depends on the rep you get.

Edit: whoops, replaced my order with Store Pickup for the keyboard and ship to store of the charger, haha.
Going to be on edge every time I get an email today lol.
This whole TP thing has been that way from the get go lol
Just got it 5-10 min ago. I ordered it almost right away i think. Looks like 5:52 pm Central I ordered.
The sale started at 4:00ish pm Central. You would be considered late to the party on that one. I ordered a 16gig at around 4:30pm Central, no cancellation email yet.
For those posting that their order from onSale has been cancelled. Would you mind letting us know what day/time you ordered it, and which size you ordered? Also, what shipping method did you use?! Thanks.
I ordered 2 16GB Touchpads a little before 10PM EST I think.

How do you cancel an order from HP?
I bought 2 cases and a keyboard from there for $91, but thanks to that Best Buy accessory + nook deal, it saves me $21 if I order from BB. I dont see a way to cancel it...must I call them? =/

Unfortunately I can't check my hotmail e-mail at work to see if onsale cancelled my order. My 32 GB is still saying shipping soon on amazon though. For those that got theirs cancelled, does it show cancelled when you look at your order on amazons order summary?

People should stop attempting to justify their buy by convincing themselves that the Touchpad is the better option. As someone else pointed out, "IT'S CHEAP", and that's all there is to it.
I would argue that the Ipad isn't 5x better then the Touchpad, so from a value proposition, the Ipad wouldn't be better.
"What is thought" isn't conclusive. I admit that the claim the article makes is convoluted and also inconclusive, but one has to consider the ramifications of a competing webkit running faster INSIDE of another OS, on different hardware (this suggests virtualization). This is akin to the fact that Windows 7 runs better and faster on a MacBook Pro than it does on a laptop with "better" hardware, and this is not just my personal experience.

As far as hardware, are you basing your claim merely on numbers? Or do you have viable benchmarks. I have used both and can say that the HP is slower, more cumbersome, and holds far less battery charge than my iPad 1! It is also heavier and thicker than the iPad 2. Going much further into it will surely bring more personal bias into the mix as supposed to objective argument.

The main point of fact is that the Touchpad is on it's deathbed, and although HP may have done a relatively good job of one-upping the iPad AFTER THE FACT (in a niche sort of way), there's no future for the Touchpad.

People should stop attempting to justify their buy by convincing themselves that the Touchpad is the better option. As someone else pointed out, "IT'S CHEAP", and that's all there is to it.
BINGO I'm not shelling out the $$ for an ipad, and given the price on these things I shelled out the cash for 3, myself, my mother, and my cousin. Was planning on a kindle at the end of september, but this was too good to pass up in its place simply because at $100/$150 it's worth the price

Crap...you know HP has been unable to ship anything on time and then when I want to cancel my order for the 2 cases they already say its shipping...I ordered them at like midnight last night...they said I can return them with no issues though. Just a hassle.

I don't suppose some kind soul with a well stocked best buy would be able to part with an extra? If so pm me, work doesn't allow my search to be as successful as it could be.
Nah, one of them is already bragging about selling it on ebay for $300.
Sounds like you work with a bunch of greedy MF'ers indeed.

Remind them of that when they ask you to help them on something. "Go find it on eBay.". ;)

From a practical standpoint, tablets are basically gimmicks. Which is why $100-150 is a decent price to pay. It doesn't matter how good Apple's iPad is, it's not worth $200, much less $500.
I would argue that the Ipad isn't 5x better then the Touchpad, so from a value proposition, the Ipad wouldn't be better.
Yup. Plus the ipad2's just going to be replaced by the ipad3, ipad4, etc.. ipad2's not worth the price for me, I'll take the touchpad and use that for a couple of years and wait and see what progress has been made with tablet tech.

I'm in the exact same boat. my local BB opens at 10 but my lunch isn't until 1 and the BB is about 10 minutes away in good traffic, so my 30 minute lunch isn't enough time to even think of trying to get one :(

Hoping a fellow CAG is willing to part with one of theirs, otherwise HP.com is my only hope, and so far they haven't given any indication of when they'll go back on sale.

I noticed a lot of people buying a bunch of hp accessories from best buy (and getting the 20% their order).

Just for the record, you don't actually have to buy touchpad accessories. The offer is 20% off ALL accessories. I bought 2 hp folios and two filler items. the cheapest filler items (which i bought) is the zip ties ($2.99) or electrical tape ($2.99). I actually needed both these items so the deal was worth it to me.

So my order total was only $44 total before the reward certificate i used. And i had the order shipped to store.

Just put an in order for In-Store pickup for the Touchstone. That way if I decide I don't want it I can just cancel the order and I don't have to rush there now to get one before they sell out.

I ordered mine on Sunday 5:05PM EST, 16GB, Normal Shipping. Bastards.

Hoping to score one at Best Buy today, but we'll see...

Canceling an order with HP is pretty much impossible. They will just make you ship it back to them or you have to refuse the package.

So I finally got my BB orders (not posting on them cause im doing other stuff though). I do find it funny how effortless my update was after so many complaints on that o_O

so tempted to buy a wireless keyboard but I've got a hunch that these are gonna be even cheaper in a couple weeks...given they have any more left.

Yeah but they charge you right when you place the order, dont they?

To beat a dead horse, would anyone who got there cancellation notice please state what time their confirmation email came from amazon... and if they ordered a 16 or a 32...

Man, I'm just waiting for the hammer to drop on my onsale order.

Just email me already you clowns, I've suffered enough.

Did anyone else who ordered the 32gb and printer paper combo from HP on Friday get their package(s)? Did they come together or separate? What was the package weight? Just impatient and trying to find out what I'm getting tomorrow exactly. Thanks.

I have not gotten a email about my onsale order but I noticed it has been removed from my amazon account. Anyone else have this? I wounder if there doing this so we cant leave bad feedback.

mine is still there says shipping soon
FFFUUUUU! Got the cancellation order. I bought this for my parents and now I have to let them down.
You have dishonored your family!

No cancellation email for me from OnSale yet, and it still shows up in my Amazon account (and still as Shipping Soon, of course).

32GB, ordered at 5:16 PM EST on Sunday.
I have not gotten a email about my onsale order but I noticed it has been removed from my amazon account. Anyone else have this? I wounder if there doing this so we cant leave bad feedback.
No cancellation email and still on my order page on amazon

And there it is! onSale order cancelled!

Ordered on the 21st, can't remember what time, was fucked up at the time lol. 16gb, standard shipping. :(

On to the next one....who has them still? lol

Yeah, I ordered at 5:27 EST, and am just waiting for mine. I used $106 of my $400 amazon credit that was all actually reserved for quarter four games alone, so it wouldn't be the worst thing that ever happened if that money was credited back to my amazon account.
To beat a dead horse, would anyone who got there cancellation notice please state what time their confirmation email came from amazon... and if they ordered a 16 or a 32...
My order # began with 103, I placed the order at 7:11PM on Sunday, and mine was for the 16GB.

I was cancelled sunday morning by HP, from a Friday midnight order, but I was so sure it was gonna go through that I didn't search anywhere else until I read the email sunday afternoon.
