Since everyone is asking for people to get them one when they can't find one on their own, let's try to keep the requests to this thread here:

Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
Got my shipment of 2 16gb TPs from onSale today. Packaging was great, no dents or anything like some BB and Office Depot people are reporting. Charging it right now.

As for the TP itself. You know it definitely feels like a cheap version of the iPad and all (I've tested out my friend's iPad pretty thoroughly) but for 99$ this is definitely a steal. Should provide some fun once I get fully situated with it.

So far it seems pretty responsive (even before any hacking/delogging/overclocking) so it should be interesting to see what it does once I speed it up.

One complaint I have about it though is the gyro on it. It's too damn sensitive. If you even slightly tilt the thing to the side it switches to landscape mode and so on. Gotta keep it perfectly straight to stay in the same mode (although maybe there are settings you can change for that...) I'll take a look later.
you can lock it in place by clicking in the right corner
Hey sk. Could you flash some of those Android pads with WebOS instead?

Also I was chatting with one of those web HP reps. I love how "she" said that "Maybe the next Touchpad." then proceeded to look like "she" cut and pasted the line that HP was discontinuing support for the Touchpad. Kinda hilarious.
Bummer Sondariom, about Costco doing that but it always seems like you almost never get a great closeout deal there.
I have no clue, and I wouldn't know why you'd want to install WebOs on an android phone/tablet. I can't wait to install Android on the touchpad. I'll just wait till that HTC tablet comes out. Someone is bound to port it over to the touchpad since they're using the same architecture. Its a shame we'll never see a fully optimized webOs experience on these tablets. Regardless you can't beat $99-$150 quality made tablets with a great UI. I'd rather have these tablets over those crappy resistive touch screen chinese made "android" tablets (those really use a broke ass version of android that can't run games off the app store due to being under spec range or using non-supported CPUs).
Im really surprised by how crazy people are going for these things.
It's a 9.7" $400 tablet going for $99, and it's possible they'll have Android ported over soon...it's a damn good deal.

...makes me all the sadder I don't have one (yet?)
Im really surprised by how crazy people are going for these things.
Its not that its a Tablet being sold for $100, its the mentality that some item once sold for $500+ very recently and just now hit a 75%+ price reduction. Its the damn "extreme couponing" way of thinking that people are getting hit with. Think there will be a fair amount of buyers remorse. Seeing a bit of it already on the new user forums.
I have a Zagg protector on my iPhone and it's survived almost 3 years and is only now showing signs of wear around the home button. They can be a bear to install but they are well-worth it IMHO.
Yeah I've seen those before. Do they have one specifically for the touchpad? I see more accessories for the iPad, which sucks since they're not the same size and everything.
Yeah I've seen those. Do they have one specifically for the touchpad?
They do. They had them at my BB last night. The Zagg protector is not 50% off though. It is only $5 off, making it $25. If you can wait a bit, they may come down a bit further but that's a guess on my part.

As I'd said earlier, I was gonna nab a kindle towards the first of sept. but given this thing does alot more for essentially the same price. I picked up a couple of these instead.

i agree, i think its people just wanting something that is comparatively cheap. That and people who hoard sales/clearance items and resell them. Still the level of craziness caught me off guard, that slickdeals thread was at almost 10mil views within 72 hours.

Okay, cool. Thanks for all the info. :)
Geek Squad then? ;)
Hell, maybe one of them could just sell you a new one from their trunk.
No, was meaning this is a closed system tablet, not a PC. Local PC repair shops wouldnt touch it if they knew whats good for them.
Apparently Sam's Club JUST put more of them up for sale and sold out instantly.
Bah! Missed it, btw anyone got an order received from them yet? Curious on shipping package handling.

Look up who Larry Page worked for before Google and you'll see why I wouldn't touch Android with a 10 ft. pole.
Hence why I asked about flushing Android from a Tablet. On another note, is there any non-Android OS or iOS(I like the idea of multi-tasking on a Tablet) that supports other languages, text and displaywise?

Woo, got my OnSale order today. Now I just need to figure out what to do with a second 32GB Touchpad. May just keep it until somebody's birthday.

I feel it's more deal fever than people trying to grab a good deal a evidence by cags here admitting to paying $250 for them on eBay. It's a hot product so everyone wants it. Many will be letdown when they finally get it and have no use for it or their interest wanes rather immediately. Even I got caught up in this type of fervor for game sales.

Android and iOS is the whole market, unless you are willing to wait for MS

If your main use will be to read books, I'd still get a Kindle over a Touchpad, even with all the extra stuff a Touchpad can do.

agreed, the kindle is imo the device to have for reading. the display is a significant improvement over what youre getting with a tablet.

Doesn't that go against your claim of a deal fever though? If people are willing to pay ebay prices then obviously paying half of that is even better. So sure it's hot and everyone wants it but it's not like tickle me elmo or the Wii (sorry had to) where it's unjustified. The fever is completely justified for these imo. They're well worth the price. Maybe even the ebay price to many.

Personally I found a solitaire application for the TouchPad with pretty good graphics. That app alone is worth the $115 investment.

I like WebOS more than Android or iOS because I feel like it operates more like a computer and less like a giant iPod Touch.
I agree - it's really sensitive. I haven't gotten around to looking for the setting to lower the sensitivity yet, but you can lock the orientation it easy enough (top right menu).
Did not know about the lock feature. I really just kind of signed up for an account, set up my wifi connection, and checked out the internet (works like a charm with Fios). Thanks for the heads up though it'll come in handy.
Obviously the touchpad is a bitch to find but for those checking out Best Buy's have the case and charger been plentiful at least?
They had put their whole stock of these in their warehouse but pulled them out when I asked about them a couple days ago. They had like 3 or 4 cases/docks/keyboards. I picked up a case and dock. I'm thinking about getting that Invisible Shield thing if they still have it.
If your main use will be to read books, I'd still get a Kindle over a Touchpad, even with all the extra stuff a Touchpad can do.
The reason why I haven't bought one yet, was I couldn't really see spending the money for the kindle as it just didn't have enough oomph for me

However the touch pad w/ it's apps and browser make it much more worth it to me
How do I make my transferred movies play on the touchpad? Anything special I need to do?
Nothing special. If you have already converted the video file, just bring up the Pictures and Videos app, select My Touchpad and your video should appear there. I converted a small FLV video in Vuze, and transferred it to my Touchpad without any issue.

Others are buying the Kalemsoft Player app which users are naming it the VLC Player for Touchpad. That will run you around $8.

For those lucky souls with a Touchpad:
@HPAcademy: How about a new look for that new Touchpad? Check out stealtharmor and use the coupon code HPFIRESALE for a great deal http://t.co/wJ25tt0

Whats a good free program to convert video files?

Who cares who worked for. It not like governments and corporations are out to get you man...sorry you're not that important. Also, I'm sure WebOS takes and transmits the same amount of data as Android or iOS...Really all they want is your randomized data to sell you crap. No one wants you dead if thats what you're getting to.

Not bad, ~43% off a case and protective screen.

@Kaiser499:

I only used Vuze to test out a single conversion. I have recently started using Super by eRightSoft (link) and I amazed of how much the application allows you to do. Best of all, it's free :D It also converts video files to playback on your PS3.

Question for you guys.. how do you know when the TP is done charging? I was playing around with it for a bit after first opening it and then I plugged it into my computer to charge. The USB signal has been the only thing on the screen for about an hour and a half now. Does that mean it's charged or is there a distinct logo that appears when it's done? I'm a little confused by that.

I dont think it charges when connected to a PC. I remember when I was messing with my mothers one the % would go down even when plugged in. I believe the logo appears so you can mount it and use it.

I just installed my zagg invisibleshield last night. As was mentioned before, the installation process is stressful as a motherfucker to make sure the liquid doesn't get into the buttons and destroy the tablet, but the results are well worth it. I'm waiting for some of the microbubbles to disappear, which can take a few days to a week.

If it is charging in the wall, there will be a lightning bolt over the battery. If you are just plugged into a computer usb port it won't have a lightning bolt because it is only trickly charging.

To check for a full charge just touch the battery up top and it will bring a drop down window with battery strength.
walmart sucks for refusing to price match their own website on the touchpad accessories. Finally found a case in stock and they want $49 for it still.
I got them to price match office depot on the touchstone and the case.

Haha some poor guy was robbed by two asian kids when he responded to a craigslist ad to buy a Touchpad.
People are ridiculous. This is also why you never buy electronics from CL.

Alright thanks guys. I assumed it would be kind of like an iPod/iPad and charge off my laptop.
Oh man, apparently there was a White 64GB touchpad in the works. That would have been sweeet (especially if it was $200 or something)
Ordered the super limited 64GB White HP Touchpad at 1:39 today through Cost Central. $250. So far I called and they told me not to worry, it is a 64GB HP Touchpad that I ordered and they don't believe they oversold any of them (he still let me know there was a chance that they oversold). I got my order confirmation and the order is showing up on my account, now I'm just waiting for a tracking number. People who ordered their 16/32GBs from Cost Central seem to be having quite a bit of success (saying they have received their tracking information within 2 days of ordering). Fingers crossed that this thing won't get cancelled.
I have no idea how they would have picked up a product that was for the EU only at this stage of the game. I'd bet he'll get a black TP painted white for his $250. :D

Only difference with the 64GB Touchpad is the storage, it's in a white finish, and it has a 1.5GHz CPU instead of the 1.2GHz in the 16/32GB models.

I'd be much more impressed if one of the Touchpads with 4G cell service appeared for sale at the firesale prices.
walmart sucks for refusing to price match their own website on the touchpad accessories. Finally found a case in stock and they want $49 for it still.
It's typically not their policy to match online prices. They will match stores in their area, but different regions have different prices, so they would not be able to match online.
Alright thanks guys. I assumed it would be kind of like an iPod/iPad and charge off my laptop.
Keep in mind, when I say trickle charge it really is a trickle. If the touchpad is sitting there doing nothing it will charge up at few percent per hour. If you are still using it though your percentages will still go down but at a lower rate than if it was not connected to anything.

Can you leave the TOUCHPAD on the Touchstone for extended periods of times? Will it hurt the battery over time if I just toss on on there when I am done?

Also, the USB DOES charge as stated above....just REALLY slow and NO indicator.
