I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). I don't think so. In their system it would have to be listed as Anime in the genre, which I don't think Gotham Knight is. If you go on bb.com you can see what is considered Anime.

I'm hoping Akira (BR version) is 50% off. I'll buy that. Other than that, I'm not a huge anime fan.

They're not stopping anime, they're cutting back... basically, if your local store gets tagged for not moving enough anime, they'll soon be having a big sale to clear out old inventory, then only the top selling titles will be available (I'd expect lots of Bleach and Naruto.)

If your store's a top anime seller, you get no sale, but you get to keep a better selection down the road.
 
I think Deathnote will be a part of it.

Just last Tuesday I noticed that three Bestbuy (which were part of the list to put animes on clearance) didnt get the Vol. 9 Deathnote.

Why wont you like them to be a part of the clearance? did you cash out dough with the prior sets? and would feel bad if they go down in price?
 
I just called the BB in Watertown, MA. They said they have not heard about the sale yet, but I am not sure because I dont think most Customer Service people are informed about sales (from my experience)

Is this a legit question or are you being a smug asshole?
I have NOT purchased these sets and would hope they are not on the "excluded List" as I have intent on buying them. If you are implying buyers remorse in your comment ... pretty much 100% of the time somewhere down the line shit you buy will be "cheaper", "upgraded" "replaced" "remastered" or a combination of the these. When I purchase items I don't spend my days lingering over the fact they might be on sale in two months or have a price drop half a year later, I enjoy them.

FYI I called and they did recieve an email on it. As soon as I said anime sale he mentioned the 50% off sale. Apparently the email only said what districts are part of it and didn't list specific stores so he advised to call in the morning before they open to check.
 
does ne1 know if they are having 50% off MSRP or 50% off sticker price?? if it's 50% off MSRP then it's pretty much worthless being that any "sale" online will spank it hands down
 
It looks like the best buy closest to me is not part of the sale. I'm happy for that, since the only other place I could go for anime on this side of town would be suncoast.

I guess I'll have to trek to the other side of the city to check this out. I'm not sure if I'll go out though. About the only things that interest me are an Evangelion or an avatar season 3 box set. I don't have the money to pick up a lot stuff.
 
Looks like I have two options within a somewhat reasonable driving distance. Both are about an hour and a half away. Either Christiansburg, VA or Burlington, NC. I'll probably check Christiansburg first since sales tax is less in VA.
 
Ah, the closest store to me on the list is a hour long drive. Good side I'm gonna guess is the one in my city will still sell anime. Thanks anyway.
 
My closest store is around 35 minutes away. I'm going to try and run up there today.

Hate driving on the interstate, though...

I'm really hoping to find Evangelion for a reasonable price, since I missed the sale on it last year.

As far as I can tell, no list of what will be on clearance has been released- We'll just have to go into the stores and look.

It definitely won't be all the anime in these stores, though. They're just cutting back their anime selection, not liquidating it.
 
Good deal, mine is still on there. Gonna go get some stuff, just hope it's marked and whatnot, don't want to have to guess what is and isn't, and get into a big old fight about it. Hopefully smooth sailing.

I doubt they would stare at you strangely if you walked somewhere else before the anime first. To avoid seeing you disappointed if they don't have the sale.

In a way I hope mine does have the sale for cheap anime, but I don't want them to cut it back. They have so much now it's great.

I just got a bunch of stuff and am going back in a few with my brother.

They just have a few small "All anime 50% off" signs up.

Watch the prices carefully, 2 items were automatically reduced for me, but 2 were not. The sales clerk had no problem manually adjusting the price, just be careful.
 
Just got back from my local BB, I can also confirm that they had little stickers up saying "50% of all anime". Picked up the only Death Note Box Set 1 they had for $25.

Yep, DBZ is included in the sale. Anything that you'll find in the anime section counts.

From what I've seen, most of the boxed sets seem to be automatically deducting, but lots of single DVDs ring up full price. Just point it out, and the sales clerks should fix it no problem.
 
I was the only person looking since the store opened. No wonder they're going to be downsizing the section! It also doesn't help that only one or two DVDs have disappeared from their display over the course of this week.
