Those trailers sure don't do much to sell the game...  I tried youtube and I'm still not sure what I'm looking at.

What's up with the Steam Keys only? I already own the series on Steam. I could have rationalized buying it to get the DRM-Free copies and used the keys on a secondary account. But I aint gonna double dip if it's only steam keys. I mean it would be one thing if the games flat-out required Steam. But they don't.

Fudge. Thought it was going to be focus sale...maybe that's the next humble bundle. Anybody have any thoughts on these games? No ways I'm paying BTA, will probably throw down a buck because why not.

Huh. Surprised. Anyone want to try to sell me on the BTA price?
Well, the Superbox is $40 on Steam and only rarely has been at 75% off. Some say just getting Terran Conflict is enough, though, and that would only be $4 at 75% off.

This pack was rumored a few weeks back, before the change in pricing. It would have been a no-brainer at $3-$4. For $6, though? Maybe just getting the older games for a $1 would be better.

Well given that I could have gotten X SuperBox for ~$6 over a year ago on GG ($7.50 before IGN, BC, and maybe eldergeek.)... this is meh-tastic.  Heck Steam had the X GoldBox (missing the oldest games) for $6.24...

I quite possibly would have beat a natural average, but fixed $6...

But Gamergate's Superbox isn't Steam except for Albion Prelude. I haven't seen the X games for Steam outside of Steam.

Still, $6 is not really exciting. I may very well go for it, but I'll grumble quite a bit about it if I do.

Yeah, I mean, I get why Humble is trying these things out...and as bad as it may sound, I hope they lose sales so they'll return to the old format. This is a slippery slope for them and it could easily cause them to be leapfrogged by one of the other "bundle sites" as the go to for sales.

Go figure...as soon as EA touches Humble, they turn to shit, lol.

I've always wanted to get these for their Linux support (not that I'm likely to play them...) so I think I'll get the full pack. Not a great deal, as others have said, but it's the lowest the X SuperBox has ever been as far as I know.

It comes with a key that activates on Steam as "X-SuperBox Retail".

Proof here:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=3743774

Old thread, but still relevant.

I agree with ashes.. this deal is decent, but GG has had it before. Would've been much better if the average wasn't fixed.

Aw, really? I think I passed on it at Gamersgate because the store page said mixed DRM.

I wonder if this series will show up in another bundle down the road. May be better to wait. On the other hand, it could be in a no-happy-hour Indiegala.

From what I've heard, the games in the $6 tier are the only ones you should play.. meaning buying it for a dollar might be pointless.

And there is only one relevant on that tier... Grrr... But is ein dolah!

With X-Rebirth approaching I'm sure there will be no shortage of sales.  That said, you should only buy these games if you are interested in pretty hard core space simulation.  90% of these games is staring at menus.

Good to know. That's a pass for me...

I don't know anything about the X series... So I'm in for $1 to backlog them and continue ignorant about it
Ha! Me too, pretty much. From what I've heard it's a very time intensive space sim where part of the charm is the ability to go hours with not much happening.

Sounds much like Elite.

You know, that 80s space trade & shoot SIM.

Bought here, better than giving Gabe an even bigger share of my money. He does not need it.

Thanks! I'll pass then

Also keep in mind Terran Conflict + Albion is the most recent/up-to-date 'version' of X3.  You need TC to play Albion but TC is a standalone progression/expansion to Reunion and completely replaces it.

There is however an advantage to the $1 level... a cheap way for skeptical CAGs to be assured that these games aren't their cup of tea. My understanding is that these are even more niche than Paradox grand strategy games.

I will say this much: there have been plenty of sales on the X games before (they're on sale, usually at 75%, during every major Steam sale), but you've never been able to get all of the X3 games anywhere close to this cheap. And I doubt they'll be bundled again.

These are my old post about X3

If your grabbing X3:TC be sure to grab X3 Albion Prelude too.

Important note for X3 series:

-There is a bit steep learning curve.
-This is a game where you will read the manual and watch a couple of lets play videos in order to learn the mechanics of the game.
-This is a sandbox space-sim. You can do almost everything you want. You can even spend 100 of hours without firing your weapon(mostly do trading and building an empire)
-Game is slow at first as you accumulate money through quest, buy and sell, mining, salvaging etc.
-The X-universe doesn't revolve around you. ex: wars will be fought and win/lose for each faction even if you didn't participate.
-Once you understand the game, be sure to have a clock nearby. So that you will not lose sleep, dinner and other important things in real life.

And for modding: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewforum.php?f=94

I love the X3. The learning curve is steep but its worth it. The X universe doesn't just revolve around the player. Wars will be fought and won even without your input. You can play as a military, mercenary, pirate or just a trader. I hope Bethesda games are like that.

X series are like some of Paradox games that you need to watch a lot of videos just to get a grasp of the game. And just like CK2, once you get a hang of the game the enjoyment that you'll get out of it is worth it.

I learn alot about the game watching this guy: http://www.youtube.com/user/willfe?feature=watch

Check out his X3 tutorial

So I guess the Focus bundle will follow HIB 9.

Not sure if I want this weekly. We'll see, there's time to decide.
Not necessarily; we got hints about an X game bundle from the Steam registry sleuths several weeks ago (2-3 Humble Weeklies ago, at least).

So is this two copies? the super box includes everything plus all the individual games?
No, the last item says X-Superbox bonuses, so I'm sure it's just the extra content that comes when you purchase the Superbox at retail.

It is. You basically get the X Superbox for $6. Superbox-content shows up in the library.

My question is... how do the people who make the gameplay vids learn how to play?

Asking the Ninja gurus who lives somewhere in the kilimanjaro

Every Steam sale, I am tempted by these games, even though I know I will be awful at them. Maybe I should drop the $6 to try the newest ones and not be tempted by the higher prices during Steam sales.

Put in $1, play Reunion.  If you're really interested you can up your purchase by $5.  Reunion is 'on par' with TC + Albion, just an earlier version with less features/content/etc.

I agree.

If your skeptical about the series try reunion first. Its almost the same as Terran Conflict and AP. And if you decided that you like the game, up your contribution and play TC then AP for the story. If all you want is sandbox, go directly to AP as it contains more features.

This is worthwhile info for those who don't care too much for Steam.

If anybody has a problem w/ X3: Albion Prelude being tied to Steam (since it requires Steam at most places), you can get on the EgoSoft website and put the NO DRM EXE in the game folder.

Here's More details on the No-Steam EXE here - and the drawbacks to it (i.e. no Steam Achievements, No Dead Is Dead Mode, etc). We all know the benefit to it - i.e. if you have issues w/ Steam, you can run the game w/out any DRM period.

EgoSoft is usually good about removing DRM from retail copies (i.e. see retail copies of X3: Reunion + TC); and even doing the above by releasing DRM-FREE EXE's for those who just hate dealing Steam.

Hell, if you have X3:TC from Retail, you can even register that key on Steam.

EgoSoft tries to make everybody happy.

Oh, for those who bought EgoSoft X Humble Bundle...

Are all the keys separate?

Some together?

Or what?

I really am only looking to buy for Steam versions of X1: Beyond The Frontier + X-Tension + X3: Reunion - b/c I'm a collector and all.

I have X2: The Threat on Steam, but ain't played it - b/c I didn't care for the controls, since you couldn't reconfigure them.

Side note - I have X3: Reunion from Retail already and don't wanna deal w/ the pain-in-the-neck 5-CD disc install - would be worth getting Steam-version for me for that alone.

One key for: X: Beyond the Frontier, X-Tension, X2: The Threat, and X3: Reunion Steam key

Another key for: X3: Terran Conflict, X3: Albion Prelude, and X: Superbox Bonus Disk Steam key

Thanks for the info! :D

Looks like I'll drop a $1.

I already have X3: TC (from Retail + registered that on Steam) & Albion Prelude from Steam.

About X: Superbox Bonus Disk - not super-worried about it.

EDIT:

Bought into 1st tier - "woohoo" to get OLD X: BTF + X-Tension + X3: Reunion onto Steam! :D

Plus - wo0t @ X Rebirth OST.
