As I was going to class and reading this site today, I was hit with an enormous amount of guilt. I realized how little this hurricane is affecting the lives of those who don't live or don't know anyone who lives in the Louisiana/Mississippi area, and I was disgusted by it. I decided I wanted to do something to it, so I donated a not insignificant amount of money to the Red Cross specifically for hurricane relief.

I am writing this to urge everyone else on the site to do the same. I know that I personally have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars because of this site, so just think of it that you paid retail on 2 games instead of buying them for $5 at CC. I feel horrible just thinking about 25,000 people crammed into a garbage and feces filled stadium knowing that all of their belongings have been destroyed and it will be at least 2-3 months before they can return home. I know that everyone has their own issues to worry about, but I hope that a lot of other people on this site will donate money to people who truly need it.

So, please, everyone go to http://www.redcross.org/ and donate what you can.

here's another good website to check out if you want to donate money:

http://www.networkforgood.org/

(they're sponsored by yahoo, cisco systems and aol)

here's a list of charities who are working for the victims of hurricane katrina:

http://www.networkforgood.org/topics/animal_environ/hurricanes/

the website provides a little bit of info on each charity and you can be more selective on where (and who) you'd like the money to go to (whether it be supply lines, long-term recovery, animals, etc).

wonder if cheapy could set up a fund like we did for christmas last year? if everyone here donated just a little could be a nice amount towards the relief needed. just a idea
