I just got through screening this at work.

Holy shit -- Most intense film ever.

Will Smith does wonders with a role he spends almost entirely alone in.

I never read the book to compare, and generally shrug off at the comparisons that are always made with this type of flick; The two mediums are going to accomplish two different things.

That being said, the movie stands alone very well. My only complaint right now is all that fucking CG. These mutants look horrendous next to say a Gollum (who I thought was slightly overrated anyway) or a King Kong (2005).

Going tomorrow night for a midnight showing at the new Imax theatre that was just set up. It's actually its inaugural showing ont that theatre.
That's only on IMAX prints, and I'm pretty sure he would have mentioned that... I know I wouldnt shut up about it
Why do you have to hurt me like that? :(

Bleh, IMAX is kinda far from me. :/

Oh, glad to see you are posting here again SpottedNigel!

Now that you saw the film, how would it have been if Arnold Schwarzenegger was starring in it like he was supposed to before he became Governor.

your lucky to have seen it already.
I'm extremely excited to see it this weekend.
Will smith is already my favorite actor, but even at that the movie alone looks very good.

Probably about ten times worse.

wow, I have read some mixed reviews over at comingsoon.net They had the first review up a week ago and gave it a 5 out of 10...then the review went poof, came back a few days ago with two reviews...hmmm

There is a midnight showing tonight...but after the last time I went to a midnight showing at that theater it was for Spiderman 3...and it was a horrible experience since the theater was full of talkative drunk college kids...so I guess I will wait til tomorrow to see it.

luckily, they made a new IMAX theater in the newest theater in my city. I'll be seeing this and five minutes of Batman this weekend.

i've read the story, and it was great, just looking at the trailer i noticed that things were quite different, but hell, i think will smith is a great actor and the movie did look intense, i hope the OP is right in speaking wonders about it :)! i cant wait to check it out

hey infamyRISE

Do you remember the music? Was there any score or was it 90 minutes of silence like Cast Away?

I can't find a score listing for it...so it makes me wonder if there is a score even made for the movie?

Will Smith dies.

Seriously? From what? So what happens to the rest of the world?

28 days later they all starve to death. Cockroaches evolve and take over the world. They then find human skeletons and ponder what they could mean.

aww screw you Zen

The book was pretty decent. From what I've seen it doesn't look like they strayed TOO far from the source. Glad to hear it sound good. I missed my free screening to pick up my baby sister. I was annoyed. Not sure if I want to spend money on it.
If it's anything like the book then
he basically loses his one man war.
One thing I'm not sure about that would upset me is if his enemies were not vampires. The book was about man vs vampires.
or so it seemed
but I can't tell if they kept or changed that from the trailers.
This movie was already done. I really hate remakes. Work on something new Hollywood.
The movie was already done twice. but they sucked. Did you see the charleton heston one? If this one is at least decent then I'm ok with it.

Incorrect.

The IMAX prints have a longer preview, but there is a new Dark Knight preview attached to I Am Legend. I'm probably going to sneak it tonight, so I'll let everyone know.

The Joker dies.
Didn't this film already come out under the name Omega Man?
1971 and also under the name "The Last Man on Earth" (1964)

I am corrected. Awesomeness for everyone

I've read the book (a very good read I might add). The movie commercials look nothing like the book. I'm on the fence whether or not I want to see this movie.

The movie that looks interesting to me is "There will be Blood" with Daniel Day Lewis...that is off topic though and I save that for another thread.

this could be worth watching when it hits cable but ive already seem the omega man and last man on earth . both those guys are way better actors than will smith could ever be so eh. his movies are like mcdonalds. it always tastes the same, looks the same and no matter where you get it there never any real difference in it.

hes a mcactor like keanu reeves and to some extent nicholas cage. you can take the diff characters in will smiths films and switch them around and youre not gonna see much of a diff aside from the clothes theyre wearing. and from what i hear theyre using cgi for the monsters in the film. does anyone know the reasoning behind this? also he said they used alot of cgi for the ny overrun stuff as well. how did all that come out?

I have a slight disagreement with you. I always thought Charleston Heston was a shitty actor. Vincent Price is superior to both of them.

I totally am a fool for not mentioning the Dark Knight trailer. I got a fat chubby when it came on. Heath ledger is going to destroy that role (in a very very good way). jack Nicholson's days are numbered.

Someone asked if there is a score, and while there is a lot of silence there is also score, and also Smith listens to a lot of music.

Minor spoiler about the monsters in comparison to the book:

In the movie they are "mutants" from a airborne/bloodborne virus that was supposed to cure cancer

Spoiler about the ending:
Will Smith dies when he and the two survivors he eventually meets are trapped in his basement lab with no way out. He figures out the cure and gives it to them. He tosses them in some sort of hideaway trap door and cooks a grenade off to blow up the surrounding mutants. The survivors make it to a settlement of immune/uninfected people but no showing of the cure being actually formed from the sample or it being put into effect.

And the saddest spoiler!!:
The dog dies :(
Gets infected and Smith holds her till she turns and reluctantly strangles it. One guy at my work is a real dog enthusiast (not that I hate them) and I can tell he's just going to hate this scene!

of the three i agree that price is the best actor hands down but heston is far better than smith even in his worst movie role.

Gonna see it probably this Sunday. Boyfriend is out of town till late Friday night, and we gotta trek to Cincinnati on Saturday. But we will indeed be seeing it on Imax- we got one right across the street. :) I can't wait.

Smith did an excellent job in a movie called "Six Degrees of Separation". It was easily the best preformance of his career. It's kind of a shame he never managed anything close that that role.
of the three i agree that price is the best actor hands down but heston is far better than smith even in his worst movie role.
you gotta be joking me. Heston could take me out in a fight maybe but as an actor... the man is trash. Smith isn't amazing but nothing as bad as Heston.
Smith did an excellent job in a movie called "Six Degrees of Separation". It was easily the best preformance of his career. It's kind of a shame he never managed anything close that that role.
I actually hated that movie. Among it's flaws I count the fact that it came from a play and you can tell. I could practically see them changing sets every few minutes. If you're going to turn a play into a movie you don't need to preserve the transition scenes. bah.

Smith is a pretty one dimensional character. I don't really think that's a bad tihng though. MiB, Hitch, Bad Boys, ID4, all good movies. I was looking up his list and noticed he's producing "MILF and Cookies" now I can't be the only one who thinks that sounds like porn.

E: turns out I'm not wrong
Will Smith is awesome.
This.

And he can do dramatic movies. He was great in Pursuit of Happyness. The only problem is he associates with Scientologists like Tom Cruise, but at least he isn't one himself.

Mesa gonna wait til tomorrow to go see it..I don't want to be with the drunk crowd.

I might pull a double feature..... Alvin and the Chipmunks then IAL..... haven't pulled a double feature in 5 years 0.o

You know what, The Chipmunks movie doesnt look that bad...Although i always saw Tom Hanks as the Guy who played Dave.
