I'm at Fry's in Woodland Hills and it's a blackout

They have employees guiding customers through the store with flashlights that are still in the packaging. You can't see anything and everything is being written by hand for orders and receipts. I'll upload pics when I get home. It's so cool.

Update with pics::
put down the internet and start grabbing stuff!
QFT. When I posted my first response I was just imagining how much would fit in my jacket/pants. Kinda sad thats the first thing my mind went too, but hell its dark and cameras are dead. I could probably suck my gut in and fit something there too...

Honestly, it's probably harder to shoplift with the attendants personally escorting each shopper.

I've shopped at a couple places during blackouts, and while I didn't have shoplifting on my mind at the time, I recall they asked you at the entrance what department you were going to and what you were buying, would just take you directly there, and then walk you immediately back.

Now, if you were standing in front of a box of diamonds when the lights went out... that's another story.

I just passed by that store but even if I knew beforehand I don't think that a blackout is enough reason for me to stop and look in. :p

Something tells me they don't have an employee for every customer. I'd be snatching stuff left and right. (I'm normally not that kind of person, but with those odds....pfft.)

They don't. That's why everybody waits outside until there's an employee ready to escort them through the store.
I think some people in this thread are the same ones who go around looting during disaster or riot emergencies.
Wonder if they'd pull a white male truck driver out from his semi and hit him with a brick?

The store I work at lost power a few months ago. Almost the whole shopping center did. It was during the day so you could see almost everything but the back of the store and we used flashlights if anyone needed anything in that part of the store.

We had our cash registers manually opened and used a calculator to add up purchases (we don't use barcoding so it didn't matter), and recorded all sales in a paper notebook and when power went back on, we rung up all the sales.

The power was out for an hour, we actually thought no one would come in the store but lots of people kept coming in, I guess because it was during most people's lunch hour.

We of course couldn't accept credit cards which surprised some people

I've been in a couple stores when the power went out and while the power came right back on, I doubt that I would have pillaged like a viking if it hadn't.

Although, I think that's about the only way I'm gonna grab myself a PS3 anytime before 2020. :whistle2:X

"Hey, the alarm didn't go off. Let's take stuff!"

"Isn't that stealing?"

"Naw, just looting."

"Sweet!"

thats looks very fun.:D Never been in a store when there's a blackout, only libraries, and i really don't want a book, even if it's free

When I worked @ Wal-Mart in the Accounting Office while in college the power did go out in the store while I was working one night. Once we determined that it would be out for some time, management made the decision with approval of the DM to close the store. The battery backups for the registers would work for about 10-15 minutes so we rang up people that were already in line and those back in the store were told they had to leave their carts and any items where they were in the store and move to the front exit.

Since we knew the power wasn't coming back on right away the associates spent the rest of the night placing the items back throughout the store, while we counted all of the register bags and every last coin and dollar by hand.

I've been in stores during blackouts, just nowhere fun. :( Man, seeing those pictures make me want to see Cloverfield again.

I've been in a store that blacked out. The employees wouldn't let anyone leave until the cops showed up. Cops eventually made it there 10-15 minutes after the blackout. I could see some people ditching stuff on tables or shelves nearby. Someone did brag about jacking something when I made it out.
the fun part about blackouts at best buy is that they seal all the doors and exits and dont let anyone out, lol
Wow, that's gotta be against fire code somewhere.
SCARY!!!!!!!!!!

Is this Woodland Hills or Silent Hill?
It's "Alice in Wonderland" themed, and that's a fountain with a statue of Alice crying. It was fucking awesome.

That would've been AWESOME with the power out. The only thing that would've made that a creepier scene is if christmas music was playing somewhere..

Or scattered, blood stained mannequin parts.

I have been in the Manhattan Beach Fry's during a power loss. They asked everyone to put down whatever merchandise they had in their hands and they kicked everyone out. This happened went it was still light outside! I'm talking around 1 pm!

Don't look if you haven't seen the movie
That ending made my brain hurt ... I don't see movies to use my imagination I read books for that.

Anyways ... never been in a store during a blackout .. I'd think I'd just leave though if I wasn't largely interested in anything. I'd flip a shit if they didn't let me leave either though, try to start some havoc and make it fun :D
