I'm too old, and it's too cold! (The Anti-Midnight Launch Thread!)

Scobie

CAGiversary!
I, for one, am perfectly happy to stay inside where it's warm, sip some wine, watch some movies, get to bed early, and be in line in the morning to score my Wii.

So, who else is staying in and letting others freeze their asses off tonight on the limited midnight launch?

I'm with you Scobie. There will be plenty for sale in the morning. Now I just need to go out and buy some wine.

i'm staying at home tonight. i'll be at Target first thing tommorrow morning.

i don't wanna wrestle with the midnight launch crowd. the morning launch would be ideal for me, as i will be playing all sunday.

I'm going to stroll by Circuit City and Best Buy around 10-ish to pick up games and accessories, and then grab my Wii from TRU shortly thereafter.

I was going to have a midnight launch party, but then this whole thing turned bat-shit, so I turned it into a Guitar Hero II party. If I wake up at a decent time tomorrow, I may venture out and try to track one down. If not, I'll just wait a couple of weeks and try again.

Yeah it's pretty cold out tonight i'm gonna go to target first around 6am or 6:30, hopefully the line won't be too bad if that fails there's toysRus, and Bestbuy near.

I'm starting to think the Wii may be in short supply come the a.m. I was just at Walmart, and they had about 50 people waiting around for a confirmed 30 systems. Ouch. I was planning on getting up early as well, however, from what I've heard and seen, people seem to be camping already. It may be difficult to just get on a line in the morning.

Oh well, guess I'll play some more guitar hero 2 while I wait for a second shipment.

after talking to some friends driving by various stores, looks like I'll be heading out around 1 or 2 to try and score a Wii. A Target near me claims they have 45 on hand right now, and on the truck that comes in tomorrow morning before the store opens they are supposed to have yet another 50.

That's great news.

I heard a similar thing when I was at Best Buy the other day. They had quite a few on hand but were going to be getting more on Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully that bodes well for all of us.

I preordered and gamestop isn't opening until 10 am. So I'm with you. :D

I'd never wait outside at night in November for a game console. Just not worth it.

I am eagerly anticipating my order from Amazon, and I have way too much school work to do before Tuesday so I'm not even saddened by the fact I won't have one for 2 days.
maybe i should watch a movie tonight. is Casino Royal any good?
This is probably useless but I just came back from seeing it and thought it was great, a bit slow in some parts but I got that Connery Bond vibe coming from it...

Just called walmart, nobody is there camping out yet, and they close in 10 minutes... The guy said that they will hand out tickets tomorrow morning when the store opens at 8. I think I'll head up at about 7am just to see what it looks like... if its not bad, I think I might pick one up, but Im definitley not playing musical chairs for one

29 people lined up and name-tag-numbered in the electronics section at my local 24-hour Wal-Mart for the midnight purchase of that exact number of wiilicious gaming goodness. At least the WM staffers were nice enough to cut the line off at the number of systems instead of playing dumb.

2 guys playing head-to-head DSLite on the sidewalk outside my local CC, which had a big sign up on the wall above the heads of these guys, stating they have 60 Wiis to sell at 10:00 a.m. opening.

About a half-dozen people lined up outside Best Buy across the street from this CC. Not sure how many this BB will have, could have sworn I saw a list posted somewhere but can't find it now.

Nobody camped at the local Target, where workers told me yesterday they have 39.

Didn't see anybody outside Sears, don't know if they'll have any tomorrow.

Haven't checked local Costco or Sam's to see if they'll have it tomorrow.

So far, though, seems like I may hit Target early, then CC and BB to see if I can snag one. If not, swing by Costco. If still don't have one, I'll just wait until after Thanksgiving when maybe the buzz will have died down a little and replacement shipments come into retailers. Seems like something similar happened with Gamecube, and we had no problem getting one by Christmas. I think Nintendo will come through.
I'm just gonna go out tonight to try and find Zelda.
Hey, I didn't think of that. Although Target and CC are apparently running gift-card promos on 2 and 3-game purchases, might be worth it to run back by the 24-hour WM at midnight-ish to pick up this one title that is sounding like it may be "the one" everybody just has to have. Hmmmm.

Best strategy w/o camping, from what I heard TRU and Target have the largest shipments, try Target at 7 am (most open at 8), if this fails, go to TRU right away, they'll open later at 10 or 11.

I struck out at the WalMarts and the Targets in my neck of the woods (Blaine, MN). It seems the "tweekers" were there all night. A couple of them were selling their spots in line. From the looks of things I would say they definitely were not there to buy a toothbrush.

hopeless - sold out!

i agree with the parent poster - im way to old to be standing outside in the freezing cold to buy something that will be readily available in a few weeks/months.

however, all the shops are sold out. online is dead too. i would imagine that stores get thier merchandise shipments once a week, so it should just be a matter of calling a store and showing up early the next day. i'm pretty sure a guy at work got his 360 that way...

Any reports on how people did not camping out?

Our Best buy managers were telling people, all day yesterday, not to bother camping out (we did anyway), that they had plenty (63), and it was a waste of time.

The 63rd spot was had about 3 AM this morning, maybe a bit earlier.

There were some ticked off people at 5-7 AM when they showed up and were told the allotment was "spoken for" just by those already in line...not ticked at those in line...ticked at the store managers who told them there were plenty and to show up at that time and they'd be sure to get one. Lots of angry soccer moms.

Pretty much everywhere around our area, that we got reports from, had all the "spots" taken by people camping over night. We actually filled up the latest, we think.

So the anti-midnight strategy didn't work out for me. I thought I was being crafty by showing up at 6:30 only to find out all the vouchers had already been given out. I made a big circuit and learned that lines had accounted for all the Wiis in my area.

Live n' learn, I guess.

I got lucky. The Best Buy I went to had 102 systems, and I was #96 when I got there an hour before open.

Mine is updating a we speak... so all went well for me.

Well, that sure sucked!

I went to Sears (because, really, who goes to Sears?) at about 5 AM only to find out at 6:15 after freezing my ass off that they only had *TWO* consoles -- both taken by the first two people in line who had been there since before 4 AM.

After giving Sears the finger (because, really, who the fuck only gets *TWO consoles?), I zipped over to TRU (set up to be my safety) and saw absurdly long lines already forming at Best Buy on the way over. I got in line at TRU... #6, scored a Wii, got caught up on all the craziness that was happening all over town.

I'm dead tired now, but the Wii is riotously entertaining. Way better than I thought it would be.

Amazing, though, the entire city of is completely tapped out. Not even one Wii to be found. No controllers. Absolutely minimal games. This thing is gonna be huge.
