First time trying this. I bought 2-MSI gtx 580 Lightning cards to replace my eVGA 285 FTW card. Now, are these steps correct:

1. uninstall current drivers
2. power down pc, unplug everything
3. use antistatic wristband and remove old card
4. install both 580's, hook up power connections
5. turn pc back on....will w7 find the newest drivers for the 580's???
6. turn on sli mode.

Which card would I run out to the monitor? I have a 759 Classified board so I have 3-16x lanes, I'd imagine skipping a space would be best?

Best place to check performance of new cards.

yes skip a space for better airflow, the drivers should download automatically, but you can always get them from the nvidia site too. You must install the new drivers to turn on SLI (so let them install and reboot first), option is in the nvidia control panel. depending on your motherboard you might also need to turn SLI on in the bios (not needed if pretty new one). Usually the top card as that is considered the primary pci-e lane.

You can fraps in a game to compare to listed stats at Tomshardware.com/Anandtech.com/Hardocp.com

You can also run like PassMark on it.

you probably spent as much on the vid cards as i did on my system lol
