Is the glut of gaming peripherals hurting the industry?

Wii peripherals sell like hotcakes. Seems like the Wii's popularity may also be hurting the industry. Every time I see someone buy a tennis or golf handle for their wii remote, it makes me cry. There are a bunch of Guitar Hero guitars cluttering up the aisles at ToysRus all the time. This article brings up an interesting point. Seems like peripherals are driving the video games industry instead of the production of better and more creative titles. And that's the real shame.
