Any chance we can get a rule blocking those? "click here to get a free PS3" etc.. violates the spirit of CAG. CAG is a legit site promoting finding deals on videogames etc... Matrix schemes are simply modified pyramid schemes, it is not a legit business nor is it a deal.

As a CAGer I believe allowing people to have Matrix scheme URLs in their sigs tarnishes the standing of CAG, and promotes predatory behavior.

I'm certain I will be flamed for this and many who have these matrix scheme links will bash me and dare me to prove their scheme is not trustworthy, but isn't that how Ponzi and Pyramid schemes have always rebutted?

"I got my PS3, here is the picture..." proof of getting a matrix scheme gift does not prove the scheme is not a scheme, in fact a few members of the scheme getting gifts of being "only 10 more referrals away" is the entire basis of the scam.

Anyoot just my opinion, given that the world's economy is in trouble and much of that trouble is based on bubbles, fraud, and various investment schemes I thought perhaps we could step in and act where we can, at the grass roots level and persuade our fellow CAGs to abandon financial schemes and dirty marketing.

While some of these sites are indeed scams, there are a very large amount of sites that are indeed legit. Many, many long time members and moderators here can vouch for them. Especially the sites made by Trainn.

If you're smart about it ie. provide false information, use TOR or something similar, use Paypal generated cards, and cancel on time, and read the fine print, you can always come out ahead.

I'm all for kicking the referrals out of the signatures. Enforcing said rule is near impossible to do. The referral forum was created as an attempt to keep the wretched hive of scum and villainy under control in one area of CAG. For the most part, it works. Doesn't stop people from putting them in their sigs, no, which is why I Ad-Block them as soon as I see them.

Regardless of their legitimacy or not, as almost all of them seem to be scams in one way or the other, I'd be happier if they were all gone from CAG as well. Most of the people that actually manage to use them to their benefit are usually scamming the sites out of the referrals and business they're trying to get by canceling right at the end of the "trial" period of the service.

Exactly, a site being legit does not mean it is still not a scheme. And as you mentioned the key to a scheme is either scamming the scheme or being in on the top or middle layer.

What? Not really. How's it harder to enforce than other signature rules (porn, image size, etc)?
