Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Anyone here got their order in for SAO Fatal Bullet Phantom Edition back when it was available?
The game looks average, but those 2 figures look pretty nice.

I personally don't think Rice Digital can match the CE the Kickstarter offered.

Kickstarter Version is all this:

Christmas-2017-Artworks-Digital
1 Director's Cut Patch
1 Muv-Luv Alternative CODEX (Digital)
1 Muv-Luv Alternative Vita Digital Copy
1 Muv-Luv Photonflowers and Photonmelodies PC Digital Copy
1 Muv-Luv Trilogy Collector's Box (Muv-Luv Japanese Team Printed Signatures on Mini-Shikishi) with physical PS Vita Cartridges, physical+digital Artbook, physical+digital OST and Sumika Figma
1 Muv-Luv Trilogy Digital Bundle PC
1 Muv-Luv Vita Digital Copy
1 Sumika Figma (They gave this to the Early Backers and this goes for around 60 bucks itself)

And shipping was $5.
That assumes they stick to the separate Kickstarter CE. At least a few of the KS campaigns I have backed in recent years have opted to just give backers the same CE that they made available through their retail distribution partner and ignored promises they made to backers for something unique. I'm pretty sure that's what Kingdom Come Deliverance just did.

Oh man, that would be suckage of epic proportions.

As far as I know from the Update, PQube is only producing the Vita games. Degica/IXTL is handling everything else and TOM is doing fulfillment/shipping it out.

Hopefully, the next update explains it more.

At least Muv Luv Vita is real compared the nonexistent English ver. of Grisaia Vita.

Yep, still hasn't shipped but the charge went through last week. Game itself looks pretty generic, but two figures for an extra $40 is a pretty decent deal.

Degica isn't handling anything anymore, they posted an update about it in December that IXTL is taking over rewards fulfillment/shipping

"Both Kickstarter and BackerKit accounts are now under ixtl, the parent company of Muv-Luv series. If you're wondering why this happened, it's simply because we have taken over the responsibility of rewards fulfillment and shipping, and the remaining Kickstarter promises. We need to know all backer details to make sure all the physical rewards are delivered to your doorstep without any problems."

Degica isn't even publishing it on steam anymore. Seems that the agreement with Degica was temporary

ok.

Well aware. Just being nice and including Degica in it. Since they did most of the work to begin with

But yeah, can't wait for DMC5 at E3. It's obvious they're trying to bring the series back with this.
I really hope so, DMC5 is one of my most desired games (right beside Dragon's Dogma 2 ironically enough, I'd be happy with either of them Itsuno.) I know capcom said 4SE sold pretty well so hopefully all the more reason for a DMC5.

You meant DMC not DmC, there is a difference there because of the reboot.

I tried giving away DmC to friends and no one would take it :c

I picked it up a few years ago for $5. Way more fun than I thought it would be, and less repetitive than Devil May Cry 4. I like the original DMC characters better, but the reboot was an extremely solid hack and slash.

Platinum the Trinity, Orie, Kanji revealed as DLC Characters for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

So I've read reports that the DLC will be divided into "volumes" 1 thru 6 for 600 yen each.

The total cost of all volumes is 2,400yens or about $22 with a Season Pass offered.

These 3 characters are Vol 1 and are "free" for a limited time aka early buyers.

The base game itself costs $50 - So if the pricing model remains the same for the west we can expect a $70 package with everything included. There is also a "Digital Deluxe" Edition that includes the Season Pass for 7800yens roughly $72.

I swear the dlc is already made. And if thats the case, I would prefer a complete release for 60

After IXTL took over the fulfillment, I emailed them [email protected] to see if there was anything I needed to do (update my info, etc.) to insure my physical VITA copy would still arrive. Needless to say, I have not received any response at all. I made sure everything looks good on my Backerkit account, but it still makes me nervous that these KS campaigns can change companies, studios, fulfillment and still get us the goods.

Any thoughts, or am I the only one stressing out about this one.

Honestly, I can't stress without knowing 100% accurate information. If and when they ship it, I'll deal with damages or a missing order then. As of right now, there isn't much I can do otherwise.

They'll ship when they ship, and I'll have to deal with any and all issues then. My order may show up well packaged, correct, and with no issues. So I see very little reason to worry about it now, as it's all out of my control either way.

Only thing you need to make sure is updated is your shipping address afaik

That's how I feel as well. If you can get past Dante's looks, there's a fun game in there.
I actually like the game quite a bit as well, enough to plat the PS3 and PS4 versions, but it's no DMC 3 or 4. There is a laundry list of issues with the way the combo system in the game is structured but what really hurt it for me is that they gave you way too many powerful AOE attacks. Fastest way to kill groups of enemies while also hitting SSS rank was just to use your chakram thingies pull everyone in and then alternate between a couple of different AOE attacks. Just got repetitive and boring after a while since that is the majority of fights.

Also it's the most obvious complaint everyone uses but the whole red/blue enemy thing was garbage design for this style of game. Their "fix" for it in the PS4 version was stupid as well.

So how many actual new characters/sprites are coming to this game?

Durante made a blog entry detailing some of the various changes to Trails of Cold Steel II on the PC for those few of you who are interested. It's an interesting read.

EDIT: Looks like their tumblr just links to the official blog now.

Theyre just reusing assets. And those assets are already there and they have the gall to cut them into separate dlc instead of just doing a complete release for 60 bucks straight
This episodic fighter release trend is going to hurt the genre. Why charge 60 dollars when you can charge 100 dollars.

Why do 100 dollars worth of work when you can do 10 dollars worth of work and charge 100 for it.

Maybe this is the world we live in, where we're supposed to be thankful that it's not all gated behind lootboxes.

For a second I thought this was the platinum granblue and got excited but then read it and realized it’s just the mobile game they’re bringing and it won’t even be playable at pax
Same. The PS4 version looks really good, so hopefully that comes over. I guess the mobile game might be the first step though

Unless there is going to be a completely new character, all the DLC characters after the RWBY girls are just going to be from their past fighters (UNIEL, Blazblue, and Persona Arena)

40 Characters.

36 of them are reused assets. (Assuming there is no one new)

4 are completely new.

Rather just wait for Expansion Release.

Edit: Potentially just a mislabeled season pass

Ni No Kuni II Premium Edition (download? I think?) looks to have a price error on Best Buy. Only see it if you search the SKU number: 6201525

$19.99

Searching for the full text of the game works too "Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom Premium Edition", but just a search to "Ni No Kuni" didn't show it for me.

Avoiding a link for now so bots don't grab it

Just warning, this is most likely a mislabeled Season Pass for the game, which does retail for $19.99

This is most likely true, as there will be a Season Pass planned with story content and $19.99 is a standard price for that.

But why in the world would the CAG Twitter post this as a deal when it takes a minimal amount of research to find the season pass...?

You're probably right. I didn't know there was a season pass. I searched for one on Amazon and it didn't pop up, but it did on GameStop.com and you're correct it's the same price. I edited the first line of the post.
