Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

I will get SMTIV: Final eventually.....way too many games coming out for me to adequately play them. I'm hoping we eventually get Persona 5 news....but really it's looking like if we get it, it will likely be late this year....maybe....I mean even the Jap release hasn't had details really at all...who knows though.

Good that Amazon has it. After the crap NISA has put me through on multiple orders of recent, any way to avoid them at the moment is good in my book.

BTW off topic but my anime figure buying has gone down an extreme amount since the figure prices are crazy high now and the yen isn't as weak. I will likely just be getting like 4-5 figures a year at this rate since it's just too much for my budget.

 
Those Corpse Party figures may not be the best quality, but I will no doubt be getting the game.  The fact that the game is actually getting a physical release pretty much sold me on getting it.

Yeah that's totally gonna drop off. The app is boring and useless. Right now there are people farming with 6+ accounts, because maybe they can get free things with points harvested. They'll stop when they realize it's a waste of time, or if it isn't a waste of time, Nintendo will somehow block them.

Also the app is simply a dead end. The point of the app is to make friends? Which cannot be done within the app, you need to make friends with Twitter/Facebook and import them. If I had Twitter/Facebook accounts I think I'd rather spend time there.

The only fun I'm having with my friendless loser Miitomo, is I'm RPing that I'm actually a friendless loser that wants to join ISIS and murder other children. And I'm waiting to see what Nintendo will do about it. I'm really hoping they add some in app friend connecting, so I can take screenshots when ISIL tries to recruit me through Miitomo O:)

Or the fact that it's a 600MB install (making it easily the biggest app or game on my phone), despite just being a stupid drop game and a voice synthesizer.

I'm ordering less too. I have months this year where I'm getting nothing. Though I still have a couple older larger orders coming up.

 
I still don't understand why "Start->Concede Match" isn't a thing in fighting games. Rage quitting is just an admission of defeat. Give people the option, it'd probably help the disconnect issues.

People ragequit because they don't want to lose points/rank.

I can't think of a real way to fix it. Before I thought that the match should be awarded to the winning player at the time of disconnect, but that would probably just have people winning a round and disconnecting right there to take an easy win.

I'm just glad I got to Gold Rank in SFV so I can stop playing ranked altogether.

I noticed that too. I don't know, I don't think I've ever seen anyone else call them that. I'm guessing it's referring to the fact that people played these games with graph or grid paper to chart out dungeons, but who knows.

I haven't been keeping up with this much, but it seems like a simple fix. Whoever disconnects should lose the points/rank.

It is so obvious that the FF main line development teams need to strip away all the BS. People don't need nor want AAA graphics, motion capture, fully voiced games. Look back to what made you successful in the first place and try to replicate that success with just a few modern tweaks. The current corporate structure over there has incredible delusions of grandeur regarding this franchise. Square Enix would be best off firing all of them and making fan-made FF games at this point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like a advertisement for Bravely Default. ;)

I agree that SE needs to take a step back from FF and try to find what made the series work in the first place. Unfortunately, I fear that the solution is sitting over at Mistwalker.

I'm a huge fan of Hironobu Sakaguchi, and would love to see him have his hand in more game development. It wasn't a massive success, but I loved Lost Odyssey, and always hoped he would do more with it, or a game like it again. I might be an old school style fanboy, but I tend to shy away from graphic juggernaut games and look for more storyline.

 
This is one of the years when I can't buy all the niche/AAA releases I want when they come out. It's kind of nice in a way since I can get them when they drop. I'm trying to prioritize new experiences and excitement over whatever release, such as another dungeon crawling Vita RPG....yay....I do like the format, but that's pretty much all the Vita is getting these days.

So I'm pretty much prioritizing my most excited for releases (Star Ocean V, Persona 5, FFXV....barely gets a pass for this), and just going from there. I already made my first bad purchase with Trillion, and some stuff will just have to wait for later since i'm barely excited for it. This includes games like Odin Sphere Remake...looks gorgeous but I beat the original a while back, any IFI stuff, boring looking visual novels since they are coming out in troves these days (still unsure when i'll go back to Tokyo Babel), SMT whatever the new one is called for 3DS (still need to finish SMT IV), 7th Dragon 3DS, Corpse Party one announced yesterday, and etc.....

So much stuff for sure, but I just can't afford it all and well I can't play it all. I'll just wait all those mentioned before and others out till they are $15-20 or something else in my buy range. It also doesn't help that I'm not really enjoying a lot of these niche releases. So many of them get aggravating to me or just plain boring that I don't want to finish them and just drop them.

Just my 2 cents, but I'm just not enjoying all these games as much anymore, and seeing their flaws more than anything nowadays. I'm pretty jaded I guess, but it will save me some money and time in the long run. I'm pretty sure all the games I mentioned will eventually fall in price too. Pretty much every game does.

Is the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei game (IV: FInal/Apocalypse) an enhanced remake of IV or a sequel? I'm not sure whether or not I should pick up IV this weekend to play it before the new one comes out or if I should just wait.

Opened my Bravely Second Deluxe CE from BB today and it does not come with the Agnes mini figurine :\

There were the only US store to list the "Deluxe" CE. I doubt they got any though. I just sent them an email about it.

Btw, has anyone who pre-ordered Bravely Second from BB received the dlc costume code yet?

BB replies to email quick. They don't have a figurine to send me (no surprise) but they did offer a $10 gift card. They also put in a notice for the dlc code and I should get it within 24 hours.
