Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Yeah when Best Buy first posted the CE they had pictures of the PAL version with an agnes figure pictured as well, complete with PEGI ratings on the box. They eventually changed the photos, but I guess they never updated the description.

My Bravely Second collector's edition came in today. Has some ugly finger prints on it and the seal/sticker didn't come off clean.... ugh.

It's a turn based JRPG at heart. The main gimmick is that every monster has an elemental weakness, and if you hit it you can get an extra turn in battle, but the enemies can do it too and completely wreck you. So it becomes a game of covering your own weaknesses while exploiting the enemies', while recruiting or breeding stronger monsters.

  • The 3DS version of the game will have 14 extra chapters, with 4 of them being exclusive to the handheld.
  • The PC version will only have 4 extra chapters, but will include the “Tooth” chapter from Corpse Party: Book of Shadows.
  • Higher resolution character sprites for the 3DS version.
  • 3DS version of the game will be fully voiced, save for the 4 console exclusive chapters
  • PC version will have a completely different Japanese voice track with different nuances, resulting in re-edited dialogue
  • 3DS version will be completely uncensored, save for some very minor changes due to legal reasons (example they gave was relating to a Nokia ring tone)

Got my Bravely 2nd CE today and it is big. Not sure where I can put it big.

I haven't gotten my costume code yet from BB either.

Also, I need that PS4 FFXV Amano theme. I can't believe they're not going to give it to the DE and CE purchases (at least so far).

 
Does anyone know if Rice Digital is the only place you can get a physical English copy of Gun Gal Double Peace?

I looked on Amazon, Walmart, Gamestop, ect. and didnt find any other sites taking pre-orders for it (though im pretty sure the english version will show up digitally on the PSN Store).

Also, is there a definitive release date for it, or is it just "sometime this summer"?

It's being made by the guys that localized Stein's;Gate. So most likely it's going to work out the same way, the CE will be Rice Digital exclusive and a standard physical release might trickle out locally.

I'm curious if the CE will go on sale like the PAL Stein's;Gate CE did so many times. I'm guessing the NTSC Stein's;Gate CE didn't go on sale just because they only made a handful, but Gal Gun is getting a normal NTSC preorder this time around.

Yeah, I don't know what to think on this release. I want it, but the price is way high. Steins Gate had many different versions across several price ranges along with several sales.

I'm assuming Rice doesn't want to miss out on potential business, so I'm taking a wait and see attitude for this one. Plus these guys shipping is beyond terrible, and even if I want to pay the high premium, getting something like this damaged is not an option. I'm really torn on this one, no question.

I don't have a link to the exact tweets at the moment but I dug through the publisher's twitter page when the LE was announced. They said there would be other means to get the ESRB standard edition, but didn't elaborate on them. LE is Rice Digital exclusive, as you probably already know.

My Bravely Second CE order was a mess. The Best Buy I ordered from grabbed a regular edition for me and of course had no more. They got one held at another store. They cancelled my order so I'd re-buy from the new store (thus losing the pre-order bonus) BUT they offered me $20 off. At the new store an older woman was arguing with them for a while over the missing figure, I even tried to help by saying the Best Buy website is terrible and can't be trusted with video game info. I asked them about the DLC and they said they couldn't get it so I got another $5 off...But to do that she returned the game to a gift card and re-bought it at a lower price. Then when I called original store to get my $20 adjustment they couldn't do it since it was now purchased on a gift card. I have to head over after work now to get my new gift card.

The worst part is I have like no hype for the game after all the edits they made.

Bummer. I got in store pickup for the first Bravely Default CE and they stuck the big store pickup sticker right on it. So I'll never do BB again for something like that and went with Amazon this time instead.

Honestly in the two years I've been going to Best Buy (cause of GCU) I have never had the slightest issue removing that sticker. I saw they just changed it but I can't imagine the glue is any different. Honestly at this point it seems less risky than hoping for the shipment to arrived undamaged.

I removed it as slowly carefully as possible and it did damage the box. It's incredibly annoying they did that when they used to just attach a corner of that sticker to whatever you were picking up.

My BD2 CE came in perfect condition from Amazon, so A+ for them.

To be fair when I've gotten something like that shipped from BB it's arrived perfectly. In store pickup is the problem.

Best Buy in store for Collector Edition reserves (for me) are the biggest crapshoot i swear to god. They take reservations for CE's of games up until a couple days before launch (your shipment of these games have been defined along time ago....why are you taking more reservations when your shipment of copies shipped days ago/ possible a week ago???)

So many times ive ordered CE's from them and they put the CE's on the floor for anyone to get...OR they just never got the correct number of CE's to fulfill all the orders.

Plus sometimes, if you are lucky, they will wrap their CE's in the infamous spider web and crush the shit out of your box, ruining it.

Yeah, only time I would ever trust Best Buy for a CE order is if I Pre-ordered it online and if I pre-ordered it super early so i dont get cut off (when they over-estimate their pre order numbers and start cancelling on people).

 
I, too, had the regular edition of Bravely Second held for me at Best Buy instead of the CE I preordered, and of course they put my CE out on the floor where it was promptly sold before I arrived.  I've never had any issues with my local Best Buy before this, but apparently this isn't the first time the employee picked my item has cocked up on this sort of thing, according to the girl who was working the customer service counter.  Anyways, they have the last available copy in the entire state of Wisconsin on its way to me from another store, so here's hoping that doesn't arrive smashed.  Fingers crossed.

I can really only see this game being sold on possible amazon.com or gamestops online webstore.

I can't imagine seeing this game on store shelves like at walmart or target lol. Its not porn or anything but its....pretty lewd...

(I ordered the PS4 Mr. Happiness Edition....im a perv :3)

 
Is there any reason people don't just have it shipped to home? It's so much easier. Best Buy offers free release day delivery, and you don't have to waste time and gas driving to the store, waiting in lines, or dealing with those store picking stickers they slap on the games.

I stopped picking up games from Best Buy long ago.

Maybe this is why things are usually fine for me. As long as it's an early order there's no reason for it to get spider wrapped.

Like I said, it's been generally fine for me, and now I work less than a mile away from a Best Buy. Whereas they often ship with bubble mailer, my Estival Versus had a crease in the box actually for that reason and I couldn't get in-store pick up.

From what I have read on here their shipping tends to damage the games and is pretty unreliable. Thus why some people ship to store and pick it up there since it wont be damaged more often then not. Plus it seems some of us have best buys close buy. I don't have a best buy within a 20 mile radius of me. The closest is over 30 miles away. So On the occasion I do order something from them I have it shipped to me. I've only ordered a vita tv from them but they shipped it in a box with giant air pockets and bubble wrap so I'm lucky on that front.

Why on Earth doesn't Bestbuy/Amazon/whatever simply let us pickup orders directly from a warehouse? I'm guessing many of us would be willing to drive an hour to eliminate the shipping/handling issues. They'd save shipping costs, and a portion of their clientele would be happier. Win win?
