Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Anyone have a suggestion for keeping track of a video game wishlist? Every time I see a game that's remotely interesting I've been jotting it down in a google docs spreadsheet but it's getting a little unwieldy.

I'd like to be able to rate and sort in a few ways (name, rating, release date, platform, etc). Something with a graphic shown for each game would also be nice.

I've considered:

Spreadsheet (current method)

Backloggery (Pros: No database so you can add something freely, Cons: no metadata sorting)

Darkadia (Pros: Graphic, metadata sorting, Cons: Requires giantbomb database entry to exist, wishlist view is strangely not the same as collection/games view which has lots of sort and viewing options. You also can't rate wishlist items)

howlongtobeat (Pros: metadata if the game has an entry. Cons: Not graphical, website kinda chugs. If you type a new game one character different from someone else the entry in your list might not be updated when a database entry is added)

Amazon (Pros: Quick and easy. Cons: Kinda clunky if not everything is on Amazon. No metadata sorting. No rating system)

WishPot (Pros: Graphical, easy to use. Ratings and links to where you saw it built in. Cons: Not designed specifically for games, so no metadata sorting)

http://vgcollect.com/ allows you to keep a wish list. Great site that's always updating.

Thanks for the tip. Looks interesting, but also seems like you can't sort by anything other than platform / alphabetical

I figured out you can add an image to a Google Sheets cell with =IMAGE("URL"), and you can make entry a little easier by pulling the URL from an adjacent cell. Like, =IMAGE(H2). Then if you drag the image formula down you can just quickly paste the image URL for your next game in H3, H4 etc.

It gives me all the functionality I want, but it's a little ugly and I have the enter any data I'd like to sort by myself, not to mention hunt down my own images.

The lonely life of the spreadsheet-er. :p

I just use a word doc and organize it by date. Works easier for me than a spreadsheet or an Excel doc. Deleting cells, shifting cells, etc gets annoying. Just make it like you would a list of groceries at the store and organize it by release date and then put something next to it that has the system or whatever.

Like

Uncharted 4 - PS4 - May 10th

Doom - PS4 - May 13th

You can also bold or italicize stuff to make it easier to stand out. Or alter the color of the font or style.

No. Play with speadsheets a bit more. You can't possibly maintain a list with Word and have it any easier or better in any way than a spreadsheet. You don't ever need to delete or shift cells/rows, and if you wanted to such actions would be easy. My basic speadsheet lets me bold/italicize/color and sort by name/date/system/discount/retailer or whatever column I bloody feel like making up, and it tallies up a subtotal of my current preorders ($1567 +tax right now...).

So how many more season passes you think they'll make before they finally stop? Seeing as this one only goes until July and they're currently doing a Halloween 2016 fan costume contest we know there will be a 6th Season Pass after this one.
It's officially hit the point where I was surprised to see another one now that X3 is out.

I want to buy some, but something about me inherently kind of hates DLC and likes things to feel complete so I'm at least going to wait until they release a mega pack with all the DLC costumes whenever they do stop. Even if it's like $1,000 just its existence is enough for me to move forward with picking up a few. Because there's always the remote chance that they'd actually bundle all the costumes for a great price once they're completely finished (or release Dead or Alive 5: Last Round: Ultimate Edition, but given that LR didn't even have all of DOA5U's DLC costumes included I kind of doubt this)

The one I want the most is the secret agent Honoka, which they made exclusive to one of those $90+ season passes.. They know exactly what they're doing.

Why won't they announce Coven and the Labyrinth of Refrain yet? I've been really tempted to import, but it's a NIS first party title, so it should be licensed here.

^Agreed--it reminds me of the boxart for Tales of Destiny. Hopefully that's the artwork we end up getting (either on front or as a reversible cover).

S***! Too many likes today but maybe I'll come back tomorrow.

I really like that artwork by the way; was getting a bit bored with the crowded shots with all of the main characters (minor?) on them.

It's very considerate of you guys to post those Play-Asia coupons, if I didn't also have one I definitely would have used one. Thanks for looking out!

The only complaint I have with the coupon is that we only get $5 off of a $60+ purchase (Before shipping). -_-  I was planning to get Bullet Girls 2 but it's $57, so I need to get something else for the coupon to take effect. Maybe a CD or something.

I've asked this question before, but it was to keep track of games and movies that I bought. I believe there is a wishlist feature. The software ousted is Really easy to use, but it can take some time to scan everything in.There is a free trial on there website. Here is a link to my collection.
