Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Yeah, it makes total sense to buy Resurrection two months before you can get it for free with Rage Burst.

I like how they conveniently left out the part saying itll be physical or digital only for Sword Art Online and Gundam.

Wish God Eater Ressurection got the physical release and not Rage Burst.

So what sets God Eater apart from other Monster Hunter-esque games like Freedom Wars and Toukiden aside from having a different developer?

GE focuses on fast paced gameplay with a slight favor towards range attacks (bullet customization), better AI than the others, and story.

The pretentiousness from developers that launch websites with countdown timers which will in-turn announce a release date for a game, is astonishing.

Speaking ZTD, I'm interested in the series given I like Danganronpa a lot, so I've got a question regarding 999. How long does playing through each ending take? And did it get repetitive or not too bad? Gracias
Takes about 25 hours to do all the endings. You can skip the dialogue in subsequent playthroughs by holding down the right direction button. But it's gonna hurt your thumb since you'll be holding it for awhile. Definitely worth the play as it's still the best ZE game.

Sweet, just finished watching the God Eater anime, now ready for some gameplay on my Vita. Sad both (vita games) are digital only though, but I will take that over nothing.

Also, I don't care how much a CE for P5 would cost, I am buying it with my savings.

I'm glad they didn't change the name this time around. Remember when it came out in the US for PSP as "Gods Eater Burst"? wtf was that about.

That feel when having to wait longer to see the Street Fighter girls designed to look like the superior Tekken girls style.
They wouldn't have this problem if they released it before Street Fighter V and Tekken 7. This game was announced in 2010...

Producer Thinks that Fans Want the Original Experience
Is a man not entitled to the original experience? "No," says the man in Nintendo, "it belongs to the Japan." "No," says the man in the Capcom, "it belongs to us." "No," says the man in Squerenix, "it belongs to no one." I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Just leaving it the fuck alone.

Do we know if either God Eater game is getting a physical version yet?

Sent from my Moto X Pure using Tapatalk.
Just the PS4 version of Rage Burst, which will also come with a code to download Resurrection (not sure if you're limited to the PS4 version of the latter).

Sucks that Resurrection isn't getting a physical, but at least it will be included with 2.

This is starting to look more and more like a day-one buy after the disappointing Zestiria.

Buying that game was one of the worst decisions of my life.

I started it last week and stopped playing it pretty quick. It did make me go back and give Graces f more of a chance, so something good came of it I guess.

Speaking of Tales, anyone playing Tales of Link? I rolled for 10 characters and zero (0) of them were Idolmaster ones. Between that and Zestiria my life is full of disappointments this week.

Doesn't look like it. I bit and preordered at my local GameStop when I picked up StarFox Zero this morning, because it's close. Just FYI - $25 deposit required for any game preorder $79,99+.

Ah sweet thanks. I got one ordered online, but I'd rather wait and see if Amazon puts them up and I can snag one

I also play Tales of Link, it's a nice change of pace compared to the console games. They also do a pretty good job of rewarding players with the gems used to roll for new characters (compared to other mobile games).

In terms of the recent Idolmaster gatcha, I have been a lot more fortunate than expected. I rolled idol Anise on my first single roll, and idol Leia on my 10 roll. Not sure where all this luck is coming from, since I usually roll the worst people in all the other mobile games I have played.

Saw this and almost hopped out of my chair.

But then i saw it's a mobile game and kinda got disappointed...I could try it, but man i would've loved to see this series on vita/ps4.

Such a good time i had with the PSP one.
Aw damn it, I got my hopes up too! I thought Square Enix left the Valkyrie Profile series for dead, so seeing the game in the news article title made me super excited. Then I saw your post and much sadness ensued.

Lucky. It is nice how giving they are with hero stones. I'm close to 50 so I'll wait until I hit that to roll again.

I don't think I've gotten anything especially special from any of my rolls.
