Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

It's probably the same bear and dog.

Polar bears are nasty assholes. He was probably only petting the dog because he couldn't figure out why the dog wasn't running. And the dog was only taking it because he was chained.

Thoughts on Paper Mario: Color Splash? Trying to figure out where on the spectrum of quality this lands, if it's good (Thousand Year Door) or bad (Sticker Star).

Its Sticker Star 2.0. With few, if any improvements to the new formula they were trying to adapt to the series.

No Where near the classics of Thousand Year Door & Paper Mario N64, those days of Paper Mario are long gone.

Also from a recent interview, it sounds like they are going to change up the formula of Paper Mario again! Most likely due to bad reception from the last two games.

I've been monitoring it for days, but it just went back up. I was going to pull the trigger tonight after I cancelled it twice already since it kept dropping. Oh well.

until they stop being cheap with that game, were screwed, would be better if they admit and apologize to rare and allow them to do another one that can also be cross platform, been down hill since super mario rpg

It went up on slickdeals.

You should monitor Slickdeals. Once a certain game your watching appears on their front page, its a race to add it to the cart because its most likely gonna rise again in a few hours, which in this case it did.

For the record i was monitoring it as well, but after holiday spending it didn't hit my "buy now" price so i just didnt bother.

 
Ah yes, I forgot to mention about the discount not being active atm. But when it goes live, it should be automatically adjusted.

EDIT: There's also supposed to be some interview for the recent takeover on the fan translation project (Plus some other Falcom stuff) at RPGSite. It's a podcast episode rather than an article though.

I sold my figmas a while back. I've never been a big fan of them. I made the mistake of saying I liked nendos to one of my exes, and she drowned me in them every chance she could. I do like them, but I've got so damn many of them that I really just want the ones I'll never open gone. Really only care about scales at this point. Made the exception for the Poputepipikku nendo set, but that's it for me.

Happens to the best of us. I know when I first started figure collecting (and i'm generally done) that you sometimes get overloaded with figures. I was buying a decent amount at first and now it's a rare scaled, maybe a limited edition Miku nendo (I love the variety!), or something else like a Sailor Moon or Ranma figuart (love these). I have a bunch i'm going to sell eventually since I just feel little connection to them and they are taking up more space than anything. Also figures cost an arm and a leg nowadays and I am just not getting drawn into anime series like I once was.

Prices for figures are insane. I was a bit crazier back when the yen was close to 130/1. I ordered just about everything I could. I was averaging about $200ish a month at the peak of my obsession. Taking a step back from it really put my priorities in order. Now I just stick to the scales I really care about. I'm really more interested in buying blurays and manga at this point, and with the way the Japanese price their BDs, it's not a cheaper route I'm embarking on.

 
I basically filled out my Detolf in my first year, thinking about expanding the enterprise for next year..

Too many Mikus would be without a home if I don't make this happen  :wall:

But I did make the decision to only get scale figs, no more figmas unless they're the racing yearly release one.

Don't really like Nendos =P

Reminds me of me. When I started in 2007, before it got big like it is today, I bought anything and everything that I liked. Of course back then, there was not nearly as much variety and quality wasn't quite as good, especially when a lesser company made your favorite character. So we kind of had no choice since we were afraid a figure would never be made of that character again.

When nendos and figmas came out, I tried a few, but never got into them. I only have the yearly Snow Miku ones and for some reason, Miku Append. I currently have no figmas anymore.

I did sell 80+ figures over the years though, so that helped fund newer ones. But space has now become a huge issue where I cannot store them anywhere. I have too cut my buying. For the first time in 9 years, I actually have 0 preorders...though I might shamelessly order that Valkyria Duel figure set.

 
So far all the figure so have actually brought (Ones not included in CE's or whatever) were from series/characters I love. In the future the only ones I could see myself buying are the rest of the XV Play Arts figures, the Corrin Figma, a couple other Figma (Like Link, and Zero Suit Samus), and some of those Banpresto One Piece figures (They are really cheap and look quite nice)

I like how Nendos look, but they are so stupid expensive for how small they are. The only ones I could see myself buying are the Naruto/Sasuke ones coming out and some of the Megaman/Zelda ones released. And I just never got into actual statues as those are even more stupid expensive.

Always kinda wanted to get into model kits though. I have a few Gundam ones from childhood, and I just recently got the default Xenoblade X skell one.

I have luckily avoided that descent into madness. Never bought a figure and never will. Closest I will get to buying one is if it comes with a game. And I typically avoid ce's due to how horribly overpriced they are anymore and the lack of quality goods they come with. I only waste my money on games I will never play on consoles I will never play them on. and just use for watching hulu/netflix and occasionally crunchyroll when the damn player decides to work.

I agree on the lack of anime/manga with stuff you are interested in anymore. Just doesn't seem there's much stuff that catches your eye these days. Let alone stuff that gets localized. Too much work to try and track down fansubs for anime or manga anymore these days unless you get lucky and its something more main stream like world trigger that gets picked up by regular sites. Speaking of which its a damn shame so many manga writers are in the hospital these days and the series go on indefinite hiatus. At first I figured the manga writers hung out at a weekly poker game to talk how they were all gonna do timeskips at the same time. But now they probably meet up at the hospital for their weekly medical issues.
