Unbelievable. It's extremely sad that I've met some of these people and now they are gone.

Ruslan Salei was not on the plane by the way. He was waiting in Minsk for his teammates. This roster had players that many of our NHL folowers are aware of. Pavol Demitra perhaps the most well known player as well as Josef Vasicek and Karlis Skrastins

EDIT:Salei was on the plane. His death is confirmed by all of Belarus reports and BHF Emergency Ministry
Surviving player Galimov is apparently in extremely bad condition but still alive as of now.

Video of game being canceled

I have never seen a crowd exit like that in such silence.

Great news but too late.

Red Wings family lost three. Former player and assistant coach Brad McCrimmon, past player Ruslan Salei, and goalie prospect Stefan Liv. It's been a rough year off the ice for hockey.

Wow very sad. What a terrible off season for the NHL, and really just a bad few months for the sport of Hockey in general.

Pavol Demitra!?
Holy crap. I was actually sort of an aquantince with him while he played with the Wild. To the point that he remembered my name at least. That's really shocking.

Kommrade Hockey League, duh.

Tragic loss.

Man, this has been a shit week between flooding/no power on the east side and MY ENTIRE STATE BEING ON FIRE.
Am I the only one who had no idea what the KHL was?
Kontinental Hockey League

R.I.P BEAST!,RUSTY,and LIV!.

BEAST was a crazy enforcer in 80s to mid 90's. He was a bruiser. It wouldn't be a hockey game if Beast didnt cause a player on the opposing team to go ape shit. Its devastating because that would have been his first coaching gig.

Rusty was only with the team for 1 year but he made such an impact on the fans and the community that i wished he stayed. he was real solid.

Liv had so much potential. Gold Medal winning goal tender with Sweden. Sooner or later would have hopefully made a good compliment to Jimmy Howard.

I am still in shock that this happpend. I grew up watching guys like Pavol Demitra tear goalies to pieces. He was the thorn in the red wings side when the St.Louis/Detroit rivalry was strong. I hear the KHL was supposed to be his last stint than he was going to retire to be with his family.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all families affected and my prayers for the two survivors get a full recovery no matter what the time takes.
Tragic.

I wonder what the KHL will do.
They will probably lobby for better planes to be used or just stop using airplanes all together.

When it comes to Russian planes, their government has no quality control. Their standards for aircrafts are subpar to awful. Their president was supposed to phase out the old air crafts next year. This was bound to happen due to the country sticking with old aircrafts with very little maintenance on them.
Ugh. Awful. I wonder what the NFL or MLB would do if this happened to one of their teams...
Marshall University had it happen to them. There's a decent movie made about it, We Are Marshall.

George Costanza to Keith Hernandez: "You know, Keith, what I've always wondered, with all these ball clubs flying around all season don't you think there would be a plane crash? ...But if you think about it...26 teams, 162 games a season, you'd think eventually an entire team would get wiped out."

When this thread first popped up, I looked for a youtube clip of that. Couldn't find one though.
