Does anyone else find the revamped Kotaku, Gizmodo, Lifehacker etc... website layout awful? I used to read a lot more headlines with the older layout when they had a brief snippet about the article and a picture before the jump. Now I rarely read anything.

It's almost as though they're trying to cram too much onto the screen. Sometimes I'll catch the old layout posted and hope they reverted back!

I like it a lot better then that cluster fuck of a website IGN. Not that I visit either one, but yea........ it's pretty bad. These companies (not blaming the designers, cuz they do what their told and have no say in the matter other than to write code for these shitty websites) need to get off this "Mac centric" design style that everyone is beggin for. But this isn't even Web 2.0. It's just crippled beyond belief.
It looks awful but who visits Kotaku?
I do once everyday.

Yeah a lot of their stories are mindless dribble like "Oh whats mr bash eating for lunch today" or "13 year old refuses to go to bed because mom wont let him play ps3" something like that. But Ive discovered a couple games or movies I might not have otherwise heard about from their more obscure stories. Its worth a quick scroll through for me to find the occasional gem or I found out earth defense force 2017 because of a reference on there. Hell Id not heard of cag till I saw a deal linked to here from there. Its a decent site, if they would stop allowing certain people to post stories on there it would be a lot better though.

But in response to the layout. I dont like it at all. It feels cluttered, slower and took away the design/color scheme that made kotaku look like kotaku. Doesnt matter to me though now I spend like maybe 3 minutes on it tops.

Everyone's been complaining about their new layout and I wonder if Kotaku is even taking notice. Like mentioned before it's "hip" to make a cluttered website nowadays. As if there isn't enough info on one page already...

Kotaku has no say in the design. This was done by Nick Denton because he felt current blog design was horrible because they had a hard time to continue getting clicks on the Gizmodo story when they got the IPhone 4 early. (His words from a WSJ interview I read not mine.)

And now his "vision" is going to take his whole network down with him as he won't change back. The Gawker network is down 500K-1M pageviews a day since the redesign.

I used to visit io9.com and lifehacker.com, but not really kotaku, but after the redesign, the sites are borderline unusable. At least they haven't changed the mobile versions.

I'll admit I used to browse Kotaku but have since moved on to Joystiq. The new layout for the Gawker sites is horrible and cluttered. Anyone know of a good site like lifehacker?

I used to visit a few Gawker sites and I did visit and post on Kotaku regularly (like every day). Since the redesign I'm out of there. On my own PC's it looks terrible. On my work PC it doesnt even work. I use IE 6 at work (nothing I can do about that) and it doesnt load up properly.

Yeah their new layout of these sites have caused me also to not good there anymore. I don't know why they went with such a horrible layout. It takes some work to go to different articles. Not worth my time.

Kotaku sucks in general. Most of their stuff is very heavy on spin and they come up with "unique" headlines for the sake of clicks. The site reminds me of of a hardcore gamer and a journalist fucking and having a kid, and of course, the kid is a complete tard. The two should have never bred to begin with, and now instead of being responsible and aborting the abomination, the kid has grown up to be a 30 year old fucktard that lives with his parents and occasionally jacks off to World of Warcraft porn.

Their userbase is generally just as retarded as well. For every three or four people that are reasonable and well-minded, there are about twenty of them that need to be put away.

So I'm not shocked that their userface now reflects their ADHD nature. Lets just cram as much crap, literally, as possible on one screen. Clearly, that's what people wanted!

Oh god the whole "first" post in the comments section of articles.

They ban ppl for doing that now. Along with the other 400 things they ban for, like criticising the site or the ppl who work there in any way.

There's always people there to fuck up a good thing. If you're not going to kotaku, where are you guys going? I need an replacement video game news site.

I wish they would just drop the pretense to Serious Journalism™ and embrace their true nature as the "30 year old fucktard that lives with his parents and occasionally jacks off to World of Warcraft porn." I used to get a lot of entertainment from stuff like the "Hot Tears of Shame" feature and other general silliness. They were good at the stuff that didn't require them to be anything more than goofy and enthusiastic.

Joystiq.com

Yeah, definitely go to Joystiq. Kotaku will update on anything, even if it's not videogame related. All the gawker pages are pretty shitty. Gizmodo putting out a story on how to cheat on your spouse? Seriously? Uncalled for.

If you HAVE to know when a videogame was mentioned in a tv show, or what a bottle of Mario shampoo looks like, go to Kotaku. If you want actual game news, go to Joystiq.

Still more usable than 1-up since they added that shitty achievement bar at the top that will make it impossible to scroll down about 60 percent of the time.
