Let's talk about Comic Books (And read some inside)
Does anyone read comic books on DVD or CD?
No, only because I cannot read them on the toilet. Now, if I had a laptop...

Those new collections of Marvel Comics look pretty sweet though.
Did you get the Joe Mad variant that came out today? Or the original Joe Quesada variant?
The Joe Q variant. I didn't know that Joe Mad had one.
Anybody read the Ultimates? They officially announced that Jeph Loeb and Joe Mad are taking over the next installment of the title. I never got into any of the comics in the Ultimate line, but I'll be picking up Ultimates V. 3 when it comes out next year. I've always liked Loeb's stuff, but more importantly, I'm so happy to see the return of Joe Madureira. He's my second favorite artist of all time, behind Jim Lee. Although, I know a lot of people don't like him. You can go to http://joemadfan.com to check out some sketches he's done so far for The Ultimates. Any thoughts?
I love Madureira's art but that book will be later than vol. 1 ever was, which was up to 8 months at one point.

BTW, do any of your comic shops carry Comic Shop News? If not, ask them to carry it. It has great information and a comprehensive checklist every month. Plus, it's free. Have your shop's manager contact them at [email protected] or [email protected]

Well after Marvel announced Joe Mad was returning, they released a special "Limited Edition" version of House of M #1 with a new Joe Mad cover. But they only sent out one copy per retailer. So the comic was going for a fortune on ebay, and retailers put the price up for it pretty high too. But then Marvel decided a few weeks afterwards that they would be releasing the comic again, with a limit of 20 comics per retailer. I picked up my copy today for $3. I feel bad for everyone who got it on ebay or at their LCS for so much a couple of weeks ago.

I really hope Joe Mad doesn't get the book delayed too much or too often. But I guess I have to expect it. And the whole situation with issues of Ultimates V.1 being delayed for so long does remind me of the delay between issues #8 and #9 of Battle Chasers. It doesn't matter though, I'll be picking up every issue. I wonder what other series he might do. Maybe a return to Uncanny X-Men so that I can finally pick up another X-Men comic after so many years.

And I get CSN whenever I can. The comic shop I go to usually just throws it in with everything else I pick up, unless theyre lazy.

I read the two paperback collections of The Ultimates & thought it was great. Definitely recommended.

I picked up the first five issues of Ultimates V. 1 when they came out, and I wasn't too thrilled with them. So I never really gave the rest of the series, including Volume 2, a fair shot. But I have heard only good things about it, so I hope Jeph Loeb and Joe Mad can continue that. I just don't like any of the comics in the Ultimate series, including Spider-Man and X-Men, for some reason. So hopefully The Ultimates V. 3 will change that.

Time top put this one up again. Finished Death of Superman again and will continue on with World Without A Superman and Return of a Superman. Just great stuff. Love Jurgen and the other author's writings, but especially his.

Also, am going to start and finish tonight the new Xmen House of M for October/September I beleive it is. I update this tomorrow hopefully with which one it is, but it is the one with Marvle Girl (Rachel Grey/Summers) and the return of Psylocke on the cover.

Speaking of Superman, is anyone going to be picking up All-Star Superman? I've never liked Quitely's work, but I'll probably check it out to see what Morrison does with Supes.

Just a reminder: Comics will arrive in stores on Thursday this week due to the holiday.

Just went through and finished X-Men: Day of the Atom again. Probably one of my favorite X-Men arcs in a while. Simply a fun, quick, easy read and that is very entertaining. I love Larocce's (sp) art work. Juggernaut as a good guy/X-Men still feels kind of strange, but somehow it works.

I think i might be droping buying comics for awhile, Something has to give either Vid games or Comics for gas. So i guess i choose comics :( PM if any of you guys are intrested in comics that have been release in the past 4 months i have alot of them

I don't blame you for getting out of comics for awhile. I've been reading them forever, and I always seem to take a break from them for long periods of time in between. But eventually I end up reading them again. And I'm sure it's the same way for you. But are you sure right now is the best time with Infinite Crisis right around the corner? And is their any way you could give a quick list of comics youre parting with?

*****POTENTIAL IDENTITY CRISIS SPOILER*****

I'll buy Infinite Crisis but my anticipation for it is tempered somewhat since Identity Crisis ended. That series was great until the last issue. I couldn't believe how anti-climactic it was.

why don't you just download comics? that's free

I had to do the same thing. I was spending around $80 a month and still wasn't getting everything I wanted.

I've some how managed to cut down my comic book budget to about $20-$30 a month, when I used to spend that much in a week. But I'm missing out on so many good titles.

I picked up Superman/Shazam First Thunder. Haven't read it yet, but the art looks great. I did read House of M #6, and it was okay. Really liked Villains United, the traitor was not really surprising, but man is that traitor a real bitch!

Also picked up a copy of Ghost Rider #1, by Ennis and Crane. The art was different, but seemed to elaborate. Story was a good typical Ennis story.

Man, as of late I've been simply just going through all of my TPBs and reading them again.

Just finished Hellboy Volume 1: Seed of Destruction.

I really hope, no I wish that there will be a GL: Rebirth TPB coming out. Anybody know if there will be? Or how about an Identity Crisis and Avengers Disassembled as I have read both arcs, but in both I'm missing a couple comics from each. GL: Rebirth I have the first issue, but everywhere I went they were sold out of the rest by the time I tried to get them. God Damn it. And later on they were like $8-16 and higher.
Download comics? I knew it was an option, but I never knew people actually did it.
Yaeh, I know of some that do that, but of couse it akin to music and the people that I know don't always get the entirety of what they are after.
Salvador Larroca is a great, and very underrated, artist. I remember seeing his stuff from X-Treme X-Men, and being absolutely blown away.

Did you happen to see Juggernaut's look in Ultimate X-Men?

 Wow, that is umm...just weird. He doesn't have his red/black armor on. Well, still it's only the Ultimate universe which is separate anyway. I'm glad it is, because I really don't like the look they have given him now, but that Vegas in the background is awesome.

Avengers Disassembled TPB is out, And Id Crisis should come out the next two months.

GL:Rebirth actually made me care about GL...which i never have before, and now i get the monthly. I love Identity Crisis, and the people that complain about are idiots. Avengers dissasembled would have been beter if it was just called the Ultimates, but it wasnt, so it ended up just pissing off 80% of my customers. I didnt care, but damn did they get annoying :)

How many "blockbuster event" storylines have occurred in in a comic book where a character doesn't die? I seriously want to know. Because in Disassemebled, characters were getting killed off right and left. I mean, Marvel.com even had a checklist up for it.

Wow, thanks. I knew that they were all either out already, or supposed to be coming up. That's awesome for GL: Rebirth. I absolutely love it. It's probably my favorite monthly story arc this year. It was simply great, especially if you were a GL fan like me. GL's my favorite super hero, and Hal Jordan was my favorite GL. Kyle Rayner was good, but I dunno, there was just something missing. I was jumping for joy as soon as I found that Hal Jordan was coming back. It brought back the entire GL universe to what it was, what it should be, what it is. DC really started putting GL into the forefront of their comics lineup I feel. In the past he was great, but he always seemed to be on the back burner behind Batman/Superman/etc. Now they really seem to be taking more of an interest in him. I take that back about it being my favorite monthly story arc this year, from what I have read of it (about 85-90% of it)IC is probably tied with GL: Rebirth. I've read only bits and pieces Avengers Disassembled, so that's why I want to go and just get the TPB of it and read it. I really here mixed blessings on it. Some say it was awesome, others, like yourself, hate it with a passion.

I dont like GL so I didn't read Rebirth, IC was good even though I hate every DC character but Impulse (kid Flash). But Avengers Disassembled was great, and 3 deaths (even though 1 is back (Vision) and another will be) were good and somewhat meaningful.

Hmm...does it have to be related to super heroes?

If not than I can think of quite a few, Sin City, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, etc.

That's pretty much why I didn't enjoy GL: Rebirth. I never really liked the character that much before, so I picked the series up hoping that it would make me a fan of GL. But ultimately, Rebirth just didn't do it for me. And I think people who didn't care about the character before reading the series, still won't after reading it as well. But I thought the artwork in it was great.
How many "blockbuster event" storylines have occurred in in a comic book where a character doesn't die? I seriously want to know. Because in Disassemebled, characters were getting killed off right and left. I mean, Marvel.com even had a checklist up for it.
Okay just marvel:

Fatal Attactions (x-men books)
Onslaught (in a way)

Okay, maybe not that many. But In Avengers Disassembled the 3 deaths was cool, and 2 of them are coming or are back. fuck Ant-man 2. No one cared about him.

Onslaught... I guess no one died, they just kind of sacrificed themselves. Did you enjoy the Onslaught storyline? Because that's going way back for me, and I don't really remember what people thought of it. I just remember everyone hated the whole "Heroes Reborn" thing.

I liked it but It in way it was in too many books at a time. And every hero was going thru so much at that time( Avengers, FF, Spider-Man and his stupid-ass clone), in some books it was just added on in the last minute(Punisher). The Liefeld Heroes reborn issues sucked

Are you referring to when they were doing comics for Awesome Entertainment? And Churchill did The Coven, while Liefield did that Fighting American title which was basically Captain America, and the Avengers. I wonder if he got sued for that.

But speaking of Churchill, if the first issue of Supergirl is a sign of things to come, it might just become my favorite series. And issue #2 has been delayed by a week. Along with these titles:

...NYX was delayed again. Im in shock. Oh my god. The shock is incomprehensible. wow.

...

...

I wish i could just force everyone to go read DEMO instead...

Demo was basically the rough draft for NYX...and then the story was slightly lifted by marvel. Demo went on for 12 months, was on time almost every month.

NYX has had 6 issues so far, almost 7, and every issue has been late.

Buy DEMO, tell Marvel to fuck off. Then go buy Runaways. :)

Yeah, Churchill's work after that started to look like a cleaner Liefeld style.
I might have to pick up the Runaways Hardcover that just came out. And would you recommend Y: The Last Man or Ex Machina?
My top 3 on-going comics are:

Y The Last Man
Walking Dead
Runaways

ex machina im enjoying, and suggest it. Im just enjoying the other 3 more.

And yeah, the Runaways hardcover is great, and uncensored unlike the mini digest ones.

I think Churchill had a stint on Uncanny X-Men some time after, because I always remember the cover with Wolverine and Jean Grey kissing. What happened to my X-Men? I stopped reading comics for awhile, came back, and I didn't recognize the team. Recommend an X-title to me that doesn't start with the word Astonishing.
