I'm broke but luckily my daughter will love this as a Christmas present so I have a great excuse. Hopefully I can hold off and it doesn't end up being an extremely early present for her...
A little bit of bad news, I just read a comment on the PS blog that states the Bookends are made of cardboard. I was hoping they'd be wooden or something.

They do look pretty solid in that picture, but still a little disappointing.
Is this confirmed? I would rather have a good set of sturdy resin/wood LBP bookends over a plush doll.

A Game pre-order with something actually useful and it turns out to be cardboard..meh!

Time will tell, might cancel the pre-order...

heh cardboard... that's disappointing. Wood bookends would be pretty heavy to ship tho (weight and size)... guess it was just too much to expect.

Haha, they had me at "Gonzo" as well. Why do I have the feeling that this in itself is going to sell a ton of copies for them?
I really do think the Bookends will be solid despite being made of cardboard.
Yeah, assuming the use heavy-duty cardboard and laminate it well, it should be quite sturdy. I'm not too worried, as I don't think they're going to go cheap on something as high profile as this. And, as everyone else has said, even without the bookends, this package would be well worth it.
I promised myself that I would never pay full retail for a game ever again.
I love/hate you, CAG.
In for one.
Yeah, this is the first time in a very, VERY long time I've pre-ordered at full MSRP with no bonus/gift card/etc. I'm hoping Amazon at least drops the price to $79.96 or something to make me feel slightly better. ;)

I got no funds for it, but i saw it and i WANT it! This is the sweetest CE ever. $20 more than the regular edition and you get a plush ($14.99 value by the way) and a set of bookend! How cool is that?!?! I didn't even care about the DLCs (tons of them too).

I ordered TWO copies, sorry, it's just too cute and too good! THANK YOU OP! *hug*

So cute :) I have the same question, but trust me, if it's cardboard, it can't be called a bookend... It's probably painted to look like cardboard (heavy plastic most likely). Even if it's real cardboard, I'm still okay with it. All i can say is, cute cute cute :bouncy:

Yeah I can't see it being made of cardboard, just a decent plastic or resin or something. The only reason he replied saying it was cardboard is because that person actually asked if it was made of cardboard. Seemed like more of a joke reply than a factual one.

Well, that's why they're 'gameends'.

Still, it took me a minute to realize that cardboard is, really, what they should be made out of. It's already been said, but I don't think they're cheaping out on this.

Put my order in as soon as I saw this, and I say that as someone who just swore off CEs after too many disappointing ones. Well done, guys.
Do you guys think we will be able to gameshare the costumes? I want to share the costumes with my girlfriend If I buy it
yes most likely considering you the fact you can gameshare the current costumes

Really guys, if they use the right laminate, a cardboard bookend could actually be stronger than plastic or resin. So one way or the other, don't worry about it. :)

The only concern that I'd have is that bookends/"gameends" have to be fairly heavy to do their job properly, otherwise the weight of the books/games they're supporting will push them right off the shelf.. Given how light cardboard usually is, I wonder how they're dealing with that issue. I guess we'll see.

I'm sure the bookends will be made well. As for the weight issue they will probably have rubber type gripper feet on them to keep them from sliding. Plus games are not as heavy as books therefore are easier to hold up so my guess would be they don't really have to be too heavy. I've stood several of my games up before and put a wider edition game box at the ends and it holds them up quite well. Even if this was just the price for the game it would be a bargain because there are 100s to 1000s of hours of gameplay to be had. Lots of entertainment value, that's for sure.

Yeah, if they're for games, then cardboard should be fine. I'm in for one... really hope Amazon adds in some kind of a GC or something.

I bit on one a few hours ago....I was debating getting rid of the pre order later but I just do not see it happening. I mean I preffer to buy CE's for about $40-$50 max even if it means waiting a year to get the game....but Christ iv been bit on the ass too many times waiting(as well as buying early)and I dont want to miss out on those book ends!

Edit - And I really strongly recommend anyone on the fence pre order this. With Amazon you can always cancel the order later.

Would get this for the plush and all the costumes (MUST, HAVE, TOY STORY ALIEN), but the bookends are awesome too. Pre-ordering this on my way home from work today with gs credit

An extra $20 for the CE contents is not bad. 7" sackboy plush, cardboard bookends (can't imagine they would hold any games if they are all cardboards), all the preorder DLCs from the big 3 retailers and exclusive Jak/Daxter and avatars.

This would be my second CE preorder in addition to Grand Turismo 5 CE. Hopefully it won't be as 'limited' as the GOW III UE that a few stores were/are pricing below the regular one in an attempt to get rid of it.

Saw this earlier at lunch at another site before this ever hit CAG, but they didn't have it up on Amazon yet to order. Now that it is available to order, it is an instant purchase for me! Free release day shipping is even better :)
I've always said MSRP does not equal a deal. This is the exception that proves the rule. Ordered.
And this just proves that what's a deal to you may not be a deal to someone else and vice versa.

I wonder if we're going to get two sets of the DLC from Amazon? If so, we could sell the second set (the Amazon exclusive set) and make some money back on the CE.

cardboard i think is fine considering that these are "game-ends"...the game cases are much lighter than books so cardboard might actually be able to support them
Have they said anything yet about whether DLC from LBP1 will cross over to LBP2? I.e. Costumes and the like? (Not necessarily levels, although that would be awesome too.)
Yes, they discussed this on the Monday when they officially announced LBP2. :applause:
I like the sackboy and the holders, going to wait for this to hit clearance though.
its a limited run. there will be no clearance
Ordered, my first CE ever I think.
Whoa I just realized this is my first retail CE ever. Guess when i ordered my first 2 CE's ever though? Two days ago with the Bioshock 2 and GOW3 deals from TRU. It's been one hell of a week :D
its a limited run. there will be no clearance
Every game has a limited run, it just depends on how limited they mean. Nobody will know till this game is released. I would get it, but not with the cardboard bookends.
