Logitech Cordless Headset problems...

I just got this headset yesterday and I can't get it to work. I charged it until the orange LED light went off and then followed the steps of having the XBox off, then plugging the part into the controller, then holding the button on the headset for 3 seconds for it to turn on, but nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or is this broken?
