Looking for a Laptop.... Please Help

Alright so I decided I am going to buy my little brother a laptop for his birthday....it is just going to be used for the basic entertainment purposes, a big school load, and regular stuff. I would like to limit the price of the purchase to around $500-$600. I am completely computer illiterate and when I got my desktop and laptop I just went for the uneducated "more money, better product" approach. So any recommendations, leads, links or advice would be absolutely great! Thanks alot guys!

I just recently bought a laptop for college and since I was on a tight budget I had to buy the cheapest laptop I could find. So I went to Bestbuy and I found one for 350 which isn't bad.
