Looking for a new browser...any suggestions?

CAGiversary!
i've been using IE for a while now, but my mac's browser (safari) turned me on to tabbed browsing. i used it and realy liked it, so now i'm looking for a browser that uses tabbs, but allows me to keep some of the IE add-ons i'm used to. first, i like the google bar for the popup blocker and autofill options. I also use IE Speller a lot (i hav bad speeling)

so far, mozilla firefox has tabbed browsing, but the google bar sucked (no popup blocker and autofill) the popup blocker that's built into the browser kinda sucked (although i was able to download a extention that included a better version) and my ie spell wasn't compatible and there is no other spell checker for firefox at this time.

Avant included all of my old IE stuff (google bar, ie spell) but there is no tabs!!!

does anybody know of any browser that uses IE add-ons(for lack of a better word) and includes tabbed browsing?

all these views, but no replies?
come on people! somebody out there is using this golden browser i'm looking for!

Opera.

It may not have exactly what you want, but it's at least as good.

Alternatively, if you're willing to spend the time to customize mozilla Firefox, it will probably be almost as good - and it's free!

i agree with both. Mozilla and Opera are awesome, but i am a little on the Mozilla loving side. i use Mozilla 7.0 i believe. i use Opera for file transfers though.

I recommend Opera. It has a ton of features and the new version coming up is even better.

Opera is super fast, very customizable and blocks pop-ups

Go with MyIE or AvantBrowser. Both are add-ons for IE that do exactly what you're looking for. Think of them as regular IE with added features, because that's essentially what they are.
and opera does tabbed browsing?
Yes, it does. And it renders pages so quickly. And has an option to open only pop-ups YOU request. And many other innovative features.

That's what they do. The innovative browser company.

So it's not free (either watch ads or pay the registration fee) but it's worth it.

Mozilla firefox is the best. It has the best popup blocker i've seen yet in a browser, great customization, tab browsing, and alot more. I can't stand using anything else.

Ever since I started using Avant I can't go back to anything else. All the compatibility of IE with tons more features. And it DOES do tabbed browsing, tho you have to turn on in the options what conditions create a new tab. The pop-up blocker is great, nothing gets by it - but it's very simple to temporarily disable when necessary.

Opera is a really nice, fast browser. I used it quite a bit for a while and it did everything I need, except one thing: cookies. Try it and if it doesn't give you a problem with cookies, go with it. Plus, if you're deviant enough, you can get a serial crack so you don't have to put up with those ads.

Opera 100%

It has a popup blocker. Someone here said that Mozilla has the best popup blocker but if I have my popup blocker on then I NEVER get a popup so I dont know how much better that can get. Also you can turn on and off the popup blocker with a quick right click and quick prefer to stop them. Great for hitting some porn sites and when you are done you just shut it off quick. Also Opera has these innovative MOUSE GESTURES which is incredible. Basically it builds extra functions into your right click. If I want to go back or forward in pages in history...I just right click and drag left or right...BANG! Instant....Also if you right click a link and pull down (only a fraction) your link opens in a new window. This is just a taste of Opera.

As for the cookie problem that someone here has expressed. Well its extremely minimum. Maybe 1 in 500 sites. Also there is an occassional site with a javascript that browser checks for IE and maybe Mozilla/Netscape and it will not see opera and give a javascript problem. This is also rare but in a week I see at least 1 site like that. Keep in mind I am on the web about 100 hours a week.

My banks, Ebay, and all important sites I use are opera compliant. As the CAG Tech Advisor I recommend everyone get Opera. This site will remain Opera compatible as long as I am around.

Opera also has autofill.

As stated previously...its fast...really fast. Also you dont have to worry about outlook viruses as much. Opera comes with an EXCELLENT mail client. Totally integrated like the old netscape but so many more functions and really fast. It sorts the mail in so many ways.

Just get it. Its free and the ad is no big deal as it is tucked in the corner. Dont bother to get a crack. If you like opera you should help support them. Cost I think is about $30. My version is paid for.

Oh and I forgot about the skins.,..

I could go on all day about Opera.

The skins are awesome...there are TONS and they look great and function so well. You can even make your own. I have about 30 skins installed and you can change them on a whim very quickly.

I use Firefox and have never had a problem since. IE is just the worst. Eventually I'm going to reinstall my OS without IE in it. As afr as Firefox goes, I have never had a popup since, I don't get bugged by activeX crap, and I like that it's a homebrew community with a mulitude of extensions. My personal favorite is the search extensions, from excite to ebay to IMDB, very quick and easy for me. I like Opera too, and as far as getting a new browswer goes, do ANYTHING to distance yourself from IE.

I have started using Firefox at home. My computer crashed randomly with IE [it's also a POS].
No probs with Firefox. I did try Opera, but didn't like it that much--it lost a lot of screen space due to the ads, and it didn't seem to be that much faster than IE. Firefox takes a few seconds longer to load up than IE, but once I'm in there, I like it--I really like 'Open [all bookmarks] in Tabs'; it loads up all my webcomics so I can read one while the others are loading.

I am currently using a no frills Netcaptor. It has a pop up blocker and can use tabs. Nothing fancy but it works for me.

I recomend Mozilla Firefox personally.
AvantBrowser is OK, it is, at its core, IE with some more functionality. Opera is pretty much the same, I just found installing plug-ins for Opera to be overly annoying. Maybe that's gotten better in the past two years. I'd hope so.

Is that what Sakura's doing now?

It all depends on if u are happy using betas or full versions.

For full version apps, iCab or Mozilla are great. iCab does not have fulll support for CSS-P, but is good if you like to tinker (technically it is a beta, but it is very mature). Mozilla is far better than its Netscape heritage and you would find it to be quite nice.

If u don't mind Betas, go for Mozilla Firefox, which is the latest build of Firebird (name had to change for legal reasons).

Firefox is fairly stable and very feature filled. The only probs for former Mac IE5 users are these:

1) it does not support URL completion from bookmarks. Why no one thinks this is important is beyond me, esp. when scrolling thru a couple of thousand bookmarks is no easy task. Even moreso when u migrate from one browser to another, and have no history to access. If Mozilla can add URL completion based on bookmarks, I will be a happy man.

2) the "find in page" and "find in bookmarks" feature currently crashes.

Mozilla, Firefox, and iCab all offer pop-up blocking.

Skip Mozilla Camino - there is no good reason for Mozilla to really be developing this one IMHO. It is too compact and devoid of features--but that is the whole point of it.

As a Mac user, Opera just does not "feel" right on a Mac.

So, Firebird if u don't mind a beta, or Mozilla if u want to whole kit-and-kaboodle.

Haha.

I tried Mozilla once. Totally screwed up my computer (slow downs, crashes, etc) and I uninstalled it right away. Maybe this was just an isolated incident, but now I'm turned off to Mozilla. Oh, and I was running it on XP.

Me too, I think Opera is really great. The new 7.5 version is going to rock.

You have to try opera to experience the greatness cause words fail to explain it.

thanks all for your help, i enabled Avant's tabs and it seems pretty cool. i have all of my IE add ons and i got my tabbed browsing!
