I'm going off to college in a couple months and I need a laptop. So I was wondering what a good laptop would be, my budget for it is about $800. I've been looking at NewEgg and comparing their prices with Best Buy and I'm unsure on which is the best. Well any advice would be appreciative, which sites sell for the cheapest and what the most for your money laptops are currently.

What do you plan on using your laptop for? If you're just going to use it for internet and notes, you could get by with a netbook. If you plan on gaming, video editing, or other intensive tasks, you'll probably want to go with an i5 or i7 equipped notebook.

Have you checked with your school to see if they can get you any discounts?

I have purchased several from dell.com/outlet; never had any problems with them. Likely to be many laptops within your budget.

If it's for notes and papers and such, I'm also gonna vote for a netbook or lower end laptop. In my experience laptops are really meant for gaming. Any time you play a game that you have the recommended specs for on a laptop it will heat up quick even on low settings.

I'm not sure if there is a deal going on for this laptop anymore but I purchased this laptop for $800:

Using this (probably) expired deal:

It's kind of hard to give advice when you don't give any details on what you need it for but that is a good jack of all trades laptop (with an average screen size/weight, a good video card, and an extremely nice processor).

If you don't care about size and need a lot of gaming power one of the best choices would be an Asus from bestbuy. If you just want something light and small just spend $300 on a netbook.

Yes, the Asus models that are available from Best Buy and other places are really great deals. Toshiba has some pretty good laptops avialable at resonable prices too. I'm looking at them myself since I'm wanting to replace my XP gaming pc with a Win 7 gaming laptop.

They make great custom built laptops. I highly recommend them.[/QUOTE]

Looking at the specs, they are pretty overpriced compared to the gaming laptops available from Asus and Toshiba (two very good manufacturers themselves).
