if anyone just wants the discs..
Hm... I wonder how different the book with the limited set will be from the book part of the digibook in the disc-only set (or, for that matter, whether it will be any different at all -- it may be that the book in the limited set is just the digibook, hard to tell from the pictures). I'm probably more interested in the book than I am in any of the other extras in the limited version.

Also yeah, I've looked at the DVDs many times, but haven't jumped. Glad I waited.

Yep, the book in the LE is the very same digibook in the regular set
The standard package (pictured just below) costs $59.96 SRP, and consists of a 52-page "digibook" with rare images, along with the discs. There will also be a separate The Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 1 Limited Edition Blu-ray version for $79.98 SRP, with the same basic package slid into a larger box that also includes a Framed Litho Cel with Certificate of Authenticity, a Souvenier Tin Sign, and a 2.5 oz Character Collectible Glass. Jerry's post at Cartoon Brew also mentions a commemorative magnet, too. The Limited Edition package (shown in a "beauty shot" at the bottom) is numbered, for greater exclusivity and collectibility. You can pre-order these from Amazon.com right now at a discount, and lock in your high-def copy!
Shot glass seems like a weird choice.
I'm inviting buddies over and taking shots every time Buggs has a carrot
Any new shorts on this that aren't on the golden collections?
As far as I know, the only Tasmanian Devil cartoon (I mention him because he's my fave) that was released on the Golden Collection sets was "Devil May Hare"... so it's awesome to see all of his original-run appearances (and thankfully not his "Fright Before Christmas" short... yuck... but that's apparently with the other "Looney Christmas Tales" on Volume 5) in High Definition. Heck, it looks like there are a fair amount of these that haven't even been released on DVD (there have been some character-based DVD sets, as well).

I'm wondering whether or not the sound is going to get upmixed to 5.1 or 7.1 or something ridiculous like that... was it upmixed to stereo on the DVD releases?
Does "digibook" equal flipping through a virtual book on a disc? I'd prefer a hard copy over that.
No, it's a physical book that doubles as the disc case for the blu-rays. It is exactly what is pictured in the op's post.

All over this set!...when it inevitably falls under $40. I've had good luck with all the other WB/Fox/Paramount/etc UCEs/mega-tchotchke-filled box sets thus far.

Speaking of animation targeted at collectors, has Disney run out of material (either animated or live-action) for their tin box sets? Or...::fingers crossed::...remastering some for Blu-ray?
"Limited" = 40,000? Amazing what marketers do now.
40,000 ever for the entire world is a limited amount, whether you can grasp it or not. The queation is whether there is enough denand for it

I might consider this since my son has become a huge bugs bunny fan. Its a limited number but not sure if the demand will be their that maybe I can find it cheaper.

They're not advertising it as limited, but only 40,000 will be made, as indicated on the framed lithograph.

Keep in mind that it's only this "ultimate" set that will be limited. If you just want the blu-rays, the regular set will be readily available.
They're not advertising it as limited, but only 40,000 will be made, as indicated on the framed lithograph.
They are advertising it as Limited. If you notice on the picture is says "Limited Edition Numbered for Exclusivity"

I really don't think 40,000 is that much, but I don't see these flying off the shelves either. Contrast this to the Star Wars Old Republic CE which is advertised as very limited, but supposedly there's many as 500K being made. Yet they've been selling like hotcakes and are sold out at some places already.

Bottom line: Limited doesn't always mean rare

Once i was at a party and this slutty broad was passed out next to me and everyone else had left, she already had her pants off...

... but this is more tempting.

can't accept this price. But this sure would bring back some great child hood memories. Good thing they also have the non CE pack. I'll wait for one of the two to drop a bit in price.
Not sure if I remember this right, but I thought I heard somebody on a podcast say that the older DVD collections took out material that would now be Non PC. But this set is supposed to be no hold barred.
Really have no idea if that is correct or not.

Wikipedia (which we know is always 100% accurate in all things) has this to say about the Golden Collection (DVD) sets:

The cartoons included on the set are uncut, unedited, and digitally restored and remastered from the original successive Technicolor film negatives (or, in the case of the black and white shorts, the original black and white negatives). However, some of the cartoons in these collections are derived from the "Blue Ribbon" reissues (altered from their original versions with their revised front-and-end credit sequences), as the original titles for these cartoons are presumably lost.

So I guess we can hope for a re-scan and clean up of all the shorts on this set... and lets hope for a serious lack of DNR on this set. I hate that waxy crap... even though its effect on animation is not exactly the same.

According to a "review" on Amazon, here's what's new:

Disc #1
Lovelorn Leghorn - Foghorn Leghorn - only available previously on VHS

Disc #2
Hasty Hare - Bugs Bunny & Marvin Martian - previously available on the Laserdisc "Looney Tunes After Dark"
Hare-way To The Stars - Bugs Bunny & Marvin Martian - previously available on the Laserdisc "Looney Tunes After Dark"
Bill of Hare - Bugs Bunny & Tasmanian Devil - previously available on the Laserdisc "Stars of Space Jam"
A Witches Tangled Hare - Bugs Bunny & Witch Hazel - only available previously on VHS.
Feline Frame-up - previously available on the Laserdisc "Assorted Nuts"

So if you have all of the DVD Golden Collections, The Oscar Winners & Nominees collection, and the Superstars Collections, you will likely only be buying this for the above 6 newly restored cartoons.

Not sure if I'm going to get this. I already have all of the Golden Collection releases. But the new set does look nice.

Definitely ordering the regular edition. The limited ed. looks like more crap and a larger box that I'd rather not have at this point in my collection.

Though, I do think even $38 for 2 discs of actual cartoon content is too high (disc 3 is extras).

50 cartoons, plus 5 hours of extras AND a 52 page book. $38 sounds pretty reasonable for all of that imo.

Considering the Golden Collection used to run a lot more when they were first released (Thank You Costco for letting me complete my collection) I think this is a very fair price for a step into the Blu-Ray market, I'm tempted into getting the collectors set but I know I wont. I wish I would have shelled out the cash for the Walt Disney Treasures Premium Collection, I just hope something is planned for in the future.

It also looks as though the bonus disc also has about 15 more cartoons on it... they seem to be Chuck Jones work that isn't Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies-related and some of the newer Looney Tunes stuff that's not exactly 'classic'.

Personally, this seems to be an AMAZING deal... but that's probably just because I'll get to see all of the Tasmanian Devil's cartoons in HD (the bonus disc even has the terrible "Fright Before Christmas"... so that's all of his stuff). Now we just need Tasmania to be released on DVD... even though that show is nowhere close to the same as this stuff in quality or tone.
